This was one of the best games I have purchased to date. The environments are simply stunning and wide open. The majority of the game can be conquered from various approaches and even after 20 large (some huge!) areas, you're still left hungry for more. I could go on and on, but this game is definitely worth grabbing. Considering the deeply discounted price, it's more than worth the money spent.

I downloaded the demo and it crashed 3 Times within the 25 odd minute demonstratoin I subjected myself to. I have played "Splinter cell" and "Raven shield" and they also quite often crashed on my computer (Both UBI games). My system is Windows XP SP1, P4 1,6 GHz, GF4 Ti4600, SB Live PCI, 512 Mb RAM. -Note: Very standard components with the latest drivers as well. Granted, not the 'latest and greatest' hardware, but still plenty good enough for 'today's' games @ reasonable settings. I have played and still play UT2004 and many other games with no crashes, so know it is not a defective system causing the problem. Moreover, regarding Raven shield, I contacted the UBI "tech support" via telephone (as it is very obscure how to e-mail them from the information provided on their website) and the gentlman with whom I spoke was very rude to me.

I have a fairly new PC - P4, 2.8 GHz, 1 GB RAM, GE Force FX 5200 128MB Graphics card, and the game barely works. I tried many different settings but none seemed to help. There are areas where the game just slows down to a crawl. I tried the patch and it didn't help. I give up!
What a waste of money. I'm returning it.

Being an avid on-line gamer ever since Unreal Tournament, I was happy to see a game try to be a little different. Playing against the computer is fun, but the REAL action happens on-line. However, this is Far Cry's weak point! I have a top of the line system, with a cable modem (3.4 meg download/upload) and the games continually lagged -- ALL the players complained as you jittered your way around the maps, "trying" to shoot someone. This became extremely annoying after awhile. The selection of on-line servers is also pitiful! It looks as if the Far Cry folks didn't place much effort on the on-line option of this game. I have since gone back to UT2004 (Unreal Tournament 2004) which gives you many more options, servers, and dependable on-line play.

If you want a shooter game where you have to unload an entire 30 round clip into an opponent in order to maybe score 1 kill, then buy this game. You can sneak up on other players and shoot them point blank over and over again and not even draw blood, let alone kill them. Tedious and boring. What a huge disapointment this game was. Well, at least I still have CounterStrike and UrbanTerror.

Horrible game, totally overrated, no challege at all absolutly nothing special about this game. Great graphics and some cool physics dont make an amazing game, all the "wow factor" goes away after only playing it a short while, plus it has a crapload of both audio and video glitches. I got sick of the game after only playing the demo, it's just boring, repetitive and pointless. The only thing different about the demo and the final version is that there are more places to go and just play the same missions wtih slightly different objectives over and over again. BUT LOOK AT THE SCENERY WOW THAT MAKES UP FOR THE REPETITIVE GAMEPLAY FOR SURE! IT'S A TROPICAL PARADISE! O yeah, I forgot about the hangliding and the demons in the game (which totally ruin this games attempts at being somewhat realisitc in any way, what;s the point of realistic physics with demons?) And what is with the plot, its almost as stupid as Once Upon a Time In Mexico. PRE-ORDER AND GET A FREE FAR CRY VACATION PLANNER CD! That should sum it up right there, this should have stayed a tech demo.

"I've played Half-Life 2," and "Battlefield 2," and this is more enjoyable for what it is...
Now for multiplayer, BF2 is better by far too. For detailed graphics, HL 2 is better. But, for a single player experience with open ended routes to your objectives, good graphics, engaging AI, HUGE open environments, different types of opponents, guns, maps, and so on, this is a great game! I have replayed the whole thing once and many levels many many times. I would recommend this over any other first-person shooter I've played. For multiplayer, BF2, CS, or Desert Combat (which I think I liked best maybe of those)...but for stand-alone: Far Cry. I hope Crytek hurries up and makes some new PC game with their engine, which blows BF2 out of the water...someone should and can...even though BF2 is a great game.
Waiting... not so patiently.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... Get the demo, see for yourself. If you've got a low-end system, 2004Q2 will definately be the time to upgrade.
This is the soon-to-be-released game I am most excited about. Half-Life2? First, it's vaporware - it may never come out at this rate. Second, it's a dead horse - how many expansions were there? It looks nice as a movie, but who's played it? Too much hype. Doom3? Now there's a dead horse. The mindless shooter... just doesn't do it anymore.
So, here's "Far Cry". It looks AWESOME and the sound is stunning, as well. I hear the birds chirping in my 5.1 and I check the window to see if it's open. The controls are what you'd expect... although another reviewer's point about a toggle for crouch would be nice, but I've adapted. One thing the *demo* is really missing is support for 5-button mice. If the final release doesn't have that, it would be a disappointment. The AI is the best of any game I've seen (definately not a "shoot first - think later" friendly game) and on the "Hard" level... their environmental awareness is kinda frightening. What enhances the AI's behavior is a lot of the dialog that the AI's shout back and forth, it certainly seems consistent with their behavior. The only enhancement I could think of is a permanently configurable body timer, but "\p_deathtime 9999" in the console is fine. As long as the body is there, the AI will react to it. Cap a merc on the trail and they'll send out a patrol after you.
Anyway, this is a MUST. I'd pre-order it here, but I simply MUST HAVE IT the day it comes out, so I'll have to buy it retail. Download the demo and see for yourself. I have played the heck out of it - to the point where I try to go through the whole thing with only the machete. Tip: It pays to be sneaky... and patient.
...and we haven't even seen the Multiplayer...
I'll be waiting for you in in a deathmatch, sukka.
