I will take this game over Star Wars Galaxies any day of the week, yes the game has issues with bugs, still if the rumors of the game being rushed in 1 years time is true have to give them a pass. It is an interesting storyline but not as detailed as the first one. If Knights III ever gets released hopefully the blanks will get filled in.
Very good sequel, but you must play the first one

My rating is totally based on playing KOTOR 1 first. I loved the first one and I loved all the new things about the second one. I'm not sure if you could appreciate all the really good additions unless you have played the first one all the way through.
Anyway, the first level of KOTOR 2 started off too slow for my taste. I like to start things off with a bang. But once I got past that 1st level things started to move along pretty well. Since you're already a jedi(sort of, you'll see)you dont have to train to become one, all you need is a lightsaber. It takes a while to get one though, but there are plenty of cool weapons available. If you dont like the ones you find you can buy or create new ones. A big difference in KOTOR 2 is that you can acquire huge amounts of money. The only problem is that there's nothing really good to buy from vendors except grenades and armor which can both be created if you have enough skill points. One really big leap foward are the new force powers. I only played with the new darkside powers, so I'm sure there are even more cool powers. I loved the CRUSH power. You lift up an enemy in the air and... CRUNCH!
The storyline could have been better. The one in KOTOR 1 was really good and had a twist ending. The one in KOTOR 2 is okay but you can see the ending 2 miles away. There should have been more suprises. Sometimes the dialog can get long winded. One good thing is that you can get light or darkside points just by talking. You don't always have to go and do a task to be bad or good, which saves time. Sometimes the game gets too linear. Choose your words wisely because you wont be able to backpedal. If you start talking trash you might have to fight. Sometimes the only dialogue options are darkside or lightside related. So make sure you pick a side early and stick with it. The one character I didn't like was the old lady Kreia. She is with you the entire game and connected to you through the Force, so get used to her rambling on and on even when she's not in your party of 3. Overall I did really enjoy the game as a sequel. Unlike most sequels (HALO 2) everything from the first game is here with the addition of a lot of cool stuff. The only thing lacking is the really good storyline of the first one.
My take on the game

At first i really thought this game was huge, and different and everything, i was pretty wrong. Even though its not different it still is fun and is pretty easy. If you liked the KOTOR game you would definently want to buy this game. But be prepared for some glitches and some tough solo parts.

obviously like many star wars fans i was drooling over the release of this video game since the first one simply became a classic and i had high expectations. most of them were met yet other aspects of this game fell disapointingly short. heres a list below.
Pros: Decent story line,
good character dialogue,
higher replayability than the original because there are simply more characters to explore throughout the game that are determined by your alignment and descisions,
more force powers and feats,
you get force powers the moment you start the game,
civil war on onderon, best part of the game,
interesting characters,
feeling that your actions are having, and will have, consequences,
sweet kick ass light saber motions,
blasters are somewhat less wimpy,
nice CGI movies, however short...,
Cons:
Sharp, loud music score is irritating rather than the soothing music from KOTOR,
mediocere graphics, and an UTTER lack of color diversity means you'll mostly be looking at gray, brown and black,
long loading times,
cliff hanger ending that left me feeling dissatisfied,
Korriban has virtually no role in this game and the planets all seem too short, plus theres no tatooine,
repetative gameplay,
you never once get the choice to kill or spare your party members like in the original KOTOR, so influencing your characters is solely if you enjoy the dialogue theres no ultimate end where some join or leave,
ultimately, you will regretably feel like you're forcing yourself to finish this game for the ending which was a major let down,
and lastly... no Bastila! she plays a cameo many players may not even find since she's hidden on korriban and all she does is whine about Revan.
Bastila's VERY brief cameo was the only cameo i found from the original KOTOR characters,
Overall: overall this actually is a very good game dispite the many cons i have listed and i still give it a 4 star rating, it's a let down though in that this game could've been much better but it felt very rushed and i didn't even know what was happening nor did i care much when the ending came about, unlike the original KOTOR which had me gripping my controller at the end. so if you liked KOTOR, buy this game. if you hate linear gameplay with virtually a 4 color scheme and having little free roaming ability then go and buy Elder Scrolls III Morrowind or something.
It's a great Beef, but it has a bad Sauce

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords is, as stated, "The Sequel to the Highly Anticipated Game of the Year". Why could I play only 5 minutes, do nothing else, and know this? Well, dumb as it is, it's in the Intro. That's right. They say they are a "Highly Anticipated Game".
In the Intro.
From there, the ONLY way was up. You start out the game in either the Prologue (Tuitorial, for all those who never played the original), or just start out. In the Prologue you take the shoes--Pardon-- wheels of T3-M4, who is a Droid. What type of droid? Well, basically R2-D2's Great Great Grand Daddy. Anywahoot, T3's mission is to fix the Ebon Hawk (The Mellinium Falcon's pre-cursor), and ultimately keep all the Human passengers alive.
On the other hand, if you start out normally, you begin as a Human who is in a Kolto Tank (Star Wars Medicine). You wake up, and all the other tanks have people in them. Dead people...(Don't you feel that Sixth-Sense too? Maybe the Force is the Seventh...) Well, you eventually continue your quest, going to such planets as Dantooine, and Korriban. All the while you are--wait! That is a SPOILER!
KOTOR II is, all in all, a great game from a view. There are voice overs at ever corner, and the Combat System ACTUALLY makes sense! Woah! Sadly, though, the part that people get turned off of is the part that gives the first impression. Graphics.
Sadly enough, the graphics look like a computer on 3-D 16 MB. OK, but not polished. You can see indiviual squares of the skins. You can see lots of discarded pixels. You can see your leg muscle coming out the rear. You can see what looks like 80's Tennis Shoes on feet.
Another complaint is the Loading times. 2-3 minutes, however they don't occur often. Also, they are about the same as KOTOR I, but they load 3 times as much, and now most little rooms don't have load times.
Also, keep the Console somewhere away. AWAY. You have never heard an Xbox grumble till you hear this.
--------------------------------
All in all, if you can see past the kind of...crummy Graphics, like RPG's, can stand the fact your game might freeze, and have the space on your Hard Drive for it, then KOTOR II is a great game. If that doesn't live up to you, then this is a Sheep in Wolf's Clothing. I highly recommend a rent before you dedicate the lush 50+ hours of this Sith lovelyness.
great, but not perfect

Well, what can i say, great game, but u wont like it as the first one because its just doesn't have that story, and the game play is pretty much the same, and most people who liked kotor actually wanted the gameplay to stay the same, infact i was even set for a an expanssion. But kotor 2 has this "what a hell is this" feeling while ur playing, in a sense that some thing don't make sense, some quest don't make sense (bith scientist?) , that old lady doesn't make sense, and the girl u picked up from telos doesn't make sense, it feels like writer tried to impress player with deep, intellectual conversations, that they forgot that it would've been nice, that common folk like me could actually understand what the characters are saying. BUT!!! if ur a star warz fan, and u liked kotor, u def should be playing this, but dont expect much
AWSOME

If you liked the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, then you won't be disappointed by KOTOR II: The Sith Lords.
KOTOR II builds upon the solid foundation of KOTOR and brings some new elements to the table to keep things fresh.
One of my favourite new features is companion Influence. This allows you to build (or neglect) relationships with your fellow adventurers and these relationships have an impact on the direction of the game. You can even bring your companions into the Force and train them as Jedi, provided your influence is high enough.
Another great addition is the Prestige Classes. Accessible later in the game, they allow you to further develop your own character beyond the basic Sentinel-Consular-Guardian classes.
While still absolutely playable even if you haven't experienced the original, I would have to say that the story is pretty closely tied to events of the first game and you will get more out of the sequel if you've played the original.
More Plot Twists! More Jedi Powers! New Planets!

Knights of the Old Republic II, A.K.A. the Sith Lords or K.O.T.O.R. II. This game rocks!
The saga continues unveiling even more plot twists from the first KOTOR. Be a Jedi or a dark Sith, it's up to you, and your friends will ally with you either way.
Wield new force powers that weren't available in the first game, & explore new planets.
On a scale of 1-10, I'd give this game a 9.6. I've never seen a perfect game. It's only available for the XBOX game console.
I sense a disturbance in the force.

This is by far one of the best Star Wars genre games to date. It is also one of the top console RPGs of all time. My only complaint is that the game feels somewhat unfinished, as though the publisher rushed the developer into production against deadlines. Several of the character interaction scripts dead-end after one or two conversations and most of the planets offer no reason to revisit them.
Still, the implementation of the 3rd-edition SWRPG rules is excellent, the graphics and sound are tops.
One caveat: On the Xbox 360 the music files and/or sound effect files tend to cut out periodically. Also there are certain spots where the frame rate during battles lags terribly. The frame rate problem seems to be solvable by rotating the camera.
