I just started playing last night, made it to level 4 before going to bed, I put in about 2 and half hours or so. This game just has you wondering what is going on right from the get go. It may feel like deja vu, but I'll tell it to you like this, if it's not broken don't fix it. There are so many new force powers and feats it's like how do you choose. The story line is orignal and intriguing. Plot: you barely escape with your life and wake up on a mining conlony in sick bay, you a fallen jedi who ran with Revan Mr. BAD*** himself during the mandlorian wars.

JUST SOME TID BITS
The engine is the same.
Same screens with a make over. stats, feats etc.
Load times are about the same, but hey this is a console game, have you ever heard of compression, duh so get over it.
There are 11 different fighting styles for lightsabre and can be change during combat to better hand your opponent or opponents that can of whupa**, is that the s*** or what.
To start you choose from the main three jedi classes, consular, guardian, or sentinel later in the game there are sub classes three for light side and three for dark side(IT'S GOOD TO BE DARK).
But hey buy the game and judge for you self I don't think you'll be disapointed. KOTOR I and II RULE!!!!!

You won't have to force the fun.

If you love KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic) you will love this. Might be because this is KOTOR 2. It has the qualities that we loved from the last game. However, there are a few changes. For one I have not noticed any dialogue between my party while traveling. All dialogue between party members is now done on the Ebon Hawk. Workbenches now creat items as well as customizing them. Skills have more use now because they are used to create better items in the workbench. Speaking of customizing lightsabers are now much more customizable with 5 slots for upgrades. Party memebers gain or lose influence points depending on how you treat them and if they agree with you. The more influence you have over them the closer their alignment is to yours and also other benefits may arise.

Well I think you must've heard plenty of good things about this game, but here are a few things I didn't like. The biggest of which is the ending. Don't worry I won't give it away. Suffice to say that it was highly anti-climatic as well as being a cliffhanger. In fact it is anti-climatic in a few more areas other than the ending. However, the story was still engaging if you can follow it. It is a bit cryptic at times and confusing, but if you could follow Metal Gear Solid 2 you can follow this. Another big problem is that it is glitchy. I didn't have any problems, but I've heard many others complain about it. Especially those with modded Xboxes. The romance options in this game never really come to fruition. Except for one, there never seems to be any resolution to the romances. Also you do not get your lightsaber until a good long way into the game. This wasn't a problem to me and added a sense of importance to obtaining one. Also lightsabers are much more powerful than in the first so it makes sense to make them rarer.

Despite all that this game is great! It is definitely worth buying if you are a fan of Star Wars and the first game. The quests are new and interesting. There are quite a few moral dilemmas. Not much if any of the quests from the previous game were recycled. Which is a good thing...

I've read several of the reviews of this game so far, and they are well thought out and aren't simply trying to bash this game. However, many of the reviewers are doing the game a disservice in their reviews.

Why?

Because they are comparing it to KOTOR I instead of simply judging this game on its own merits. They are letting their own expectations cloud their view of what is undeniably a very intriguing and enjoyable game.

I played KOTOR I as well and it stands as one of my all-time favorite games. However, if KOTOR I had never been released and this game had come out in its place, just about every reviewer here would be rating it 5 stars.

Graphically, the game is fantastic. Character models are smooth, animations in battle are excellent, and the level of detail can be overwhelming at times.

The sound effects are excellent. The clash of light saber on light saber during battle, or the sound of blaster fire, or the chattering of robot treads across metal floors is very immersive.

The plot is great. The end is a bit disappointing, but any good writer will tell you it's the journey that counts. No ending of a video game has ever stood up to the game itself, including KOTOR I, and KOTOR II is no exception. What I found most enjoyable about the journey was that sometimes I had to really sit and think about the responses that I was giving - sometimes it was impossible to tell what was the "light side" response and what was the "dark side" response. To me, those little touches really bring you into the game. After all, in life the line between good and evil can sometimes be very thin, and the game adequately reflects that.

This is not a "twitch" game. If you're looking for a 1st person shooter, buy Halo II. This is a role playing game, and as such, you can sometimes feel a bit detached from the action. That's normal. Someone noted that the game was too easy, and then revealed that they had played it on "Normal" mode. I played on Hard mode and I found it adequately challenging without becoming frustrating or monotonous.

Yes, improvements could be made. Load times are way too slow. The game does occasionally crash. Frame rates in large battles can get very slow. Some of the music is repetitive. And sure, a 45 minute cut scene at the end that wrapped everything up in spectacular fashion, preferably one directed by George Lucas and scored by John Williams, would be great. But for me, this game offers a lot of enjoyment, great replay value (I'm chomping at the bit to go through the game as the bad guy), and solid immersion into the Star Wars universe.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.......

First of all let me say that if you played KOTOR, and you are still waiting to decide to get KOTOR II. Don't wait any longer. This is definatly what you were waiting for. I have played to the ending on the first planet and so far the overall experience has been great. It is just like you jump from KOTOR right into KOTOR II. They tweaked it just enough to give the game what spice it needed, but for the most part this IS KOTOR. Sure Obsidian could have taken more time with it, improved the graphics some, corrected some glitches, but honestly with the sitation they were in having to fill the shoes of Bioware, I think they opted with the best idea, don't screw with a piece of greatness. It's like they took a pair of classic coverse and just put some subtle flames down the sides for coolness, not make a whole new damn shoe. All in all I would have to say the KOTOR II is a fantastic game, not just for RPG ers or Star Geeks, but for all gamers looking for a marquee game.
Ahh, Finally a sequel, one year after the original(incredible in it's own right) that doesn't suck, suffer from sequelitis, or just clone the original. I say most definatly RPG of the year if not game of the year.

Give in to the dark side.. or not
just play KOTOR II or you will suffer for it

Kotor II Rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kotor 2 must be the best game i have seen ever before! This game has
7 worlds each with its similarities and differences from the first game. If you are on the light side, then certain worlds are open to you, others aren't, and vice-versa. Obsidian took over for this game , but the game is still great. Lucas Arts and Obsidian are friends any so you don't need to worry. I'm happy about them having the force choices in the game again, witch really made the first game a hit, along with the rpg side of the game. It's amazing how you can acually change whether fighting is turn-based, or real-time. This is my favorite game easily.

Liked it better than KOTOR1

I don't ever write reviews, but have to disagree with some of the negative reviews posted here. I found KOTOR2:TSL to be, if anything, better than the original KOTOR.

I found the plot and pacing to be more natural than the first, with side-quests woven in more naturally. In KOTOR, many side-quests seemed tacked-on. Also, companion character development (not to mention voice acting) was much deeper and more satisfying in Sith Lords. The addition of the Influence to character interactions created a whole new dimension to the experience (though they didn't fix the problem of repetitive conversations if you ask too often).

In-game enhancements such as more robust workbenches with specialized item creation was not only an interesting addition, but creates all kinds of new strategic possibilities with tie-ins to player character skill development. (Need armor for your ranged character with high energy resistance? Build it. Need to customize somebody's blaster to get past those despicable Dark Jedi and their blaster deflection? Build it. But you may need to work on your Stealth skill first. Or maybe you want to focus on putting as many energy bolts downrange as possible; choose different upgrades. Don't forget there are additional upgrades besides crystals for your lightsaber now, too. The possibilities are vast.)

Other interface enhancements such as putting the character behaviors (support options) in the tool bar are great but still feel familiar.

Also as some others have mentioned, Obsidian raised the level ceiling and have modified the skill/feat/powers progressions so you tend to get more; creating a lot more options during play. It is nice during combat to switch up attacks and actually have more than one to pick...

Some of the specific issues raised are load times, frame rates, and bugs/unfinished bits. I did not find load times significantly different from 1, nor did I particularly notice frame rates being worse. Perhaps there are more blaster-storm free-for-alls in 2, but the ones I can think of in 1 were the same way. (Don't get me wrong, there are some times when I've got 3 Jedi and 6 lightsabers deflecting a LOT of blaster bolts all over the map and it gets kinda hairy.) As far as the unfinished bits, yeah, there are some things on maps that don't lead anywhere that are supposedly unfinished subplots. It didn't really distract me too much.

Over all, I will likely replay 2 more often than 1; so don't buy too much into the negative reviews. I have nothing but praise for Obsidian's worthy successor to the classic Bioware original.

When does it come out.

The Sith Lords is my game of the year and now my favorite Xbox game. The original Kotor is still a favorite of mine. If you can relate, even a little...just go out and buy this game.

The ONLY things that are not great about this game are technical issues. I've experianced frequent framrate issues during the game along with some freezing during saving and a damaged save. If anyone has a problem with this game other than tech issues, they probably are just not fans of the source material.

Pros
+ Fantastic story
+ new item and upgrade system allows you to sell or breakdown items to build new upgrades such as lightsaber lenses, vibrosword grips, grenades, stims, etc.
+ sound is even better than the original
+ new lightsaber moves and "forms"
+ overall gameplay has been upgraded substantially from original game

+/- dialog loops can help some people understand or decide how they want to end a conversation. Sometimes it can be plain annoying and take away from immersive feeling you get while playing this game

Cons
- frequent framrate problems, "lagging"
- some freezing during loads

Left me wishing for more.

There are three things that matter to me when I sit down to play a game. (1) Playability, (2) The Story, and (3) Graphics. This game excelled in all three.

The ease of directing my character about and choosing his moves were so prominent and felt so natural that I just sort of fell into my character's role. As in few other RPG games, I didn't doubt for a second what I was supposed to do to move forward.

The story of the game is deep and riveting - but more importantly, sensible. This is not just another action game with annoying, throw-away characters and subplots that go nowhere. You actually care about the characters involved and you take a keen interest in what their future holds, even the characters that you only get to see for a moment. The ending is especially well done, for it left me thinking about where my character would go next, what he would do, what path he would follow. Even though I made his decisions throughout the entire game, he was still his own character - I simply shaped him a bit. When I finally put the controller down and watched the credits roll up the screen, I was heartbroken that it was over. But then I realized that I could simply start all over again with a completely different character, and end up in a completely different place. A whole new experience. If you're anything like me, trust me when I say that this game is one of a kind.

And last, but certainly not the least, the graphics are fantastic and at times breath-taking. The graphics only work to bring out the story and characters and make the universe that the game is set in all the more believable. They never fail to set the tone for whatever setting you find yourself in.

As with its predecessor, The Sith Lords raised the bar for role-playing games. Role-playing games, such as Final Fantasy, while still enjoyable in their own right, tend to allow the player almost no freedom at all. Sith Lords allows an astounding amount of freedom. You can literally go where you want, do you what you want, however you want to do it. Granted, it's not Grand Theft Auto, but then, GTA is not a role-playing game.

But while I am quick to point out the great aspects of the game, I most also point out the bad. The first major annoyance is that the game continually froze and I was forced to reset the system and start over. To counter this problem, you'll be forced to save often and on different slots - the game even warns you to do so. It's not really a big deal, but it did get to me a little.

The second major annoyance was my inability to control all the members of my party proficiently - the AI continally got me into trouble I could have avoided. (This is one of the problems the first Knights of the Old Republic had.) Other than that, there's nothing else worth mentioning.

As with its predecessor, I hold this game in the highest esteem, and eagerly look foward to the next (if there is one) installment. Enjoy the game!

Awsome!
