WARNING some spoilers discussed possibly as I go on. I have been a game player for many years now. I have always leaned towards the RPG side and KOTOR was a great game. The sequel however is a rushed buggy game that does not improve much upon the first one. I feel fairly good about saying this was a rush job to get out before Xmas..sacrificing game play and storyling testing for the dollar.
First, let's talk about controls. They are much like the first one. Once you are in a battle, you have many selections to choose from and it becomes very cumbersome to do alot of strategy besides whether to pick flurry or power shot. The queue system helps some, but if you move or pick something else your queue gets reset. Also, the new powers added to the game really don't add very much from what the first game had: you will fiund yourself still using heal and stun/horror as in the first game. Also, you will notice players gettting stuck alot and terrible AI. I more than once was able to kill enemies by just standing far away and shooting them without them ever engaging me.
Next, the story itself. The storyline is very average. There are no big surprises and the slight inclusion of the characters from the first game is not very exciting. The Influence feature is just afwul for your party members. You do not influence them. You have to answer the dialauge sections as they would like to hear or you lose influence and you will not find out very much about them. Also several story arcs are never completed and some just make no sense. You will understand what I mean if you decide to play this game...especially one of the worst RPG endings in memory.
Don't buy these reviews from people who think this is the best thing going. It was a rehash of the first game with bugs and unfininshed ideas. Trust me and rent before you buy!!!!

"So many bugs, too epic a story, too little time," is what Obsidian must have been saying as the shelf date of it's first collaboration with Lucas Arts was drawing to a close.
The game play was to be flawless; the story was to be epic, more so than the first installment in the series had been. But strapped for time and with Lucas Arts pushing for the game to be on shelves by Christmas, Obsidian was forced to put out a glaringly obvious UNFINISHED GAME.
Many of us, loyal KOTOR series fans, rushed out to buy the game. But as we approached the 45-hour mark, the horrible realization set in that this was, indeed, a rushed game. We fought through the bugs, the moderate load times, the game freezes harder than we fought through any programmed foe and as we approached the end of the game, the last battle, the cold fact was, that many of the plot lines were left dangling, whole subplots discarded; subplots that you spent at least 6 hours of the game attempting to complete! We pressed on anyway, fought the final battle, only to have a promising ending fall completely flat, left with more questions than answers.
Now, I hear you asking now, cliffhangers? No, not cliffhangers, glaringly obvious plot holes, sucking any satisfaction out of your being that you might have had, in completing a 45-hour long game.
The unrealistic time constraint imposed on Obsidian by Lucas Arts, to rush the game out before Christmas was obscenely detrimental to both the game's play and storyline. Lucas Arts seems to have made the choice long ago that profits come before quality and customer satisfaction, a disturbing trend in the gaming industry today; one that must be stopped. We need to show Lucas Arts that bullying smaller production companies into unrealistic time expectancies is unacceptable.
That games that win awards by default and not merit do not win over consumers!
Over the past few months since the games release, PC gamers have found strings of code, and sound clips from what was to be the games original ending, it was to be of EPIC proportions and lead designers of the game have acknowledged the time constraints as a major reason for the cutting of that material. Chris Avellone, lead designer, has even mentioned asking LA for permission to do a content patch, but has yet to hear back.
DO NOT PURCHASE AN UNFINISHED GAME. DEMAND A COMPLETE ONE.

Bottom line is that this game could have lived up to its predicessor, and that is saying a lot. Sadly, The publisher (lucusarts) pushed this game out the door in a sad attempt at making a few pennies before the game was finished.
Much content was cut from this game (the missing files have been found in the PC versions directories) and it was put togather with chewing gum and duct tape as a result. The ending makes no sense at all, and some of the vital portions of the story had to be cut.
Do not buy this game untill a content patch is allowed or a bonus disk is given out to make this game whole.

The combat is lacking. I could probably beat the entire game as a level 5 Jedi. The storyline is complex and very difficult to understand 90% of the time as it has an incredible number of holes in it due to the fact that a lot of very important content was cut at the last minute. There was some very telling content cut due to Lucas Arts posting an impossible release date for the developer (Obsidian) to complete the game by. Among the cut content was the original ending which, telling from salvaged sound files, was incredible enough to put any of George Lucas' work to shame, especially the the Star Wars prequels. I would say that this game isn't- I mean - wasn't worth the $50 that I wasted on it because the plethora of bugs in this game will astound you. Do yourself a favor and wait until Wal-Mart is selling this game for $20 a piece, but even then I'd have a hard time convincing myself to buy it. Trust me, go out and buy a game that doesn't bare the Lucas Arts insignia or perhaps continue playing Knights of the Old Republic 1.

This game has too many glitches to be considered a quality game. The first one was much, much better. Save your money.

I was reading some of the reviews that were posted on this site and they sounded as if they were employed by the developer to hype this game up.
I'll give you an honest review..... This game is fun to play but the quality of it is very very very bad. I ran out of patience with this game after I returned my second game due to bugs. The first version I had looped in the opening credits. The second version I had stuck me in a place on Nar Shadaa (a planet to explore)with no other options out. One door was sealed ahead of me and a second door was sealed behind me. When I research this game thinking I just didnt find a switch or something to get me out I was surprised to learn I'm not the only person to experiance glitchs in this game. I would not buy the xbox version if I had to do it over again. I enjoyed the original version of Knights of the Old Republic from Bioware, but this game leaves a whole lot to be desired. Obsidian Entertainment should be ashamed that they put such a piece of junk on the market. I wouldnt be surprised if this game is recalled. I feel they rushed this game to the stores for christmas just to make a few bucks. What ever anyone does do not buy this game.
So much more than just poor sequel

No one ever expects a sequel to match the original, but even when approaching it from that angle this game is horrible. If you must play it, do yourself a favor and wait until the game is on the discount rack......which by my estimation shouldn't be too long from now. Had this game had to stand on it's on merits, I have no doubt it would be a complete and utter failure. Why? The storyline......what little there was extremely lame and weak. There is only one thing truly genius about it, they were able to take a 5 hour story and stretch it into 40 some grueling hours of bored anticipation. Bored anticipation?!!!? Whatever do I mean. I'll explain. They kept showing movie clips of things going on with the characters and things around you, but not a single one played out. For instance, it showed me a short clip of someone making contacting with Carth, but Carth played absolutely no role in the game and no information adding to game was given in the clip......so your setting there bored to tears playing the game, but the clips lead you to believe more is just about to happen, that the plot will thicken, that finally all the hours of torture you've endured playing this stupid game will pay off, but then....well, just when you can't believe the game could get any worse you come to the ending and the game plummets to lows no video game I have ever played has reached. Your only sense of satisfaction is knowing you will never have to endure another minute of torture playing this game, hoping praying and having the faith to believe it will get better.
I could write plenty more about my disappointments in this game from its annoying plotless no personality characters, to the mundane get you nowhere fast tasks, to the add no real value to the game conversations, to the who thought being a jedi could suck fights, but hopefully I convinced you to save yourself a little money by waiting to purchase this game. This game isn't just a poor sequel it's a poor game overall. But if you choose to waste your money on this game......well don't say you weren't warned.
Oh, sorry but one more thing that really adds to the cons of this game......all the time spent waiting for scenes to load....I turned on my computer and surfed the web while I waited, trust me you'll need something to do because you won't get wrapped up in the plot (or lack thereof) of this game.
Oh what could have been...

I purchased this game with the anticipation that it would follow in the footsteps of it's predecessor. Kotor II failed miserably to live up to the standards set by the original. As many other reviews have stated there were too many bugs, slow loading times and an incomplete story. All topped off by a worthless ending.
However, there were some additions which merit proper recognition. For instance character classes and weapon construction made for some interesting (if not too easy) combat.
The influence your character has on party members, provided some decent dialogue.
Unless Lucas Arts re-issues the complete version you are better off waiting for the ROTS game. Save yourself a ton of wasted time.
The most disappointing thing is, throughout playing the game I couldn't help but wonder how awesome it could have been.
This might be the worst sequel to any game I have ever played.
It has been said: "Its never as good as the first time!" They must have played KOTOR II before saying it.
My God!

FOr the love of god, this game blows! I heard this KOTOR 2 game was the best. I hated it! These guys are telling me "you need to flush out a near-by console without have slice throught destonon hydroxolyant. After that, reach the Fanta Base at ground level 16 grey, you must activate the sylington elevator and pick the Anti-screw hand held device" What the crap!?!? I needed the game too make more sense! It's like trying to understand a Thailandic person who's having a seizure! THis game is crap! I returned it. THe gameplay is sad too. All you do is see your little character standing there, shooting his crappy laser and missing every fricking time! ITs like watching Ray Charles hit a retarded boy with a bat! KOTOR gets a 1/5. Game of the year my ass...
