The Only Logical Sequel to KOTOR

Though not nearly as captivating and exciting as the first Knights of the Old Republic, there's really no other game out there that can attempt to be like the first game, than this one right here.

Though the game has its flaws (weird bug occurences and glitches, repetitive slowdowns in large battles) the story line remains fairly close enough to the first one to invite intrigue. There's plenty of things to do in this one, as the first one, but Knights 2 offers too much of what KOTOR did in not nearly as good a manner, and it'll leave you wishing you had seen more of everything in the end.

Good game, but falls short of the original

When I first bought this game I was looking forward to another surprising stoyline like in the original. I was dissapointed. The game starts out practically the same way as KOTOR 1 you're on a ship that is badly damaged but unlike the original you don't fight enemies at first, and when you do its only mining droids. Another problem was with the main character. In the original you are one of the most powerful sith lords, but now your just a jedi in exile. The title also had another problem. The Sith Lords?
The three Sith Lords defies what Yoda said about there being only two Sith, a master and an apprentice. The ending also was dumb, it didn't wrap up the game. You don't see any of the characters in your party aside from Mira again once you reach Malachor. Other than the story the game is pretty much the same as KOTOR 1. BioWare laid out a good foundation for a sequel that Obsidian used. The game mechanics are mostly the same and you get more force powers. So all in all the game was good to play through aside from the story.

The best game ever!

BUY THIS GAME. It is the best game on the market and the only other game that competes with it its Kotor1. buy them both. Its more fun than kotor1 because there is character influence, which will affect what they tell you/if they become jedi or not. The characters are also a lot more interesting in this game. Graphics are no different than the other one however which is annoying cuz there not the best... but its still amazing. if your looking for a good game, definetly get this or kotor1

I agree with almost everyone

I agree with almost every review, so I wont rehash all of it. I liked the improvements of gameplay from KOTOR 1 to KOTOR 2. I also was bogged down with so much going on at any one time, I used the journal A LOT, which really helped!!!!
I learned to save VERY often...one battle would be very easy, the next minute I'd get my butt kicked!!!!!!
I learned one lesson early--in most RPG games, a beggar comes to you asking for money. You give him money and get XP for it. In this one, I gave money to a beggar, Keira jumped on me so badly, I felt like crying in the corner!!!!! First time for everything!!! I learned EVERY decision and move you make has repercussions and consequences!!!! Bottom line---both KOTOR 1 and 2 are part of the best RPG games I've ever played, and I cant wait for KOTOR 3!!!!!!

Not even close comparing to the original!

I'll get straight to the point since many of the other critique pretty much already mentioned what I wanted to mention.

To be fair, KOTOR 2 is not a bad game. However, it doesn't even come close to KOTOR 1. Why is that? Because in the original game, I felt alive while playing it. The story in KOTOR 1 is simple, straight forward, yet very addictive. Even after playing KOTOR 1 the 5th time (and knowing the game inside out), I still feel very addictive to it. However, after finishing KOTOR 2 the first time, I don't even want to play it again.

Furthermore, KOTOR 2 is more philosophical (it may be interesting, but unneccessary - look at KOTOR 1, it is so simple, yet very entertaining). While playing KOTOR 2, I have the feeling of playing it just to see how it ends, not to enjoy the game plot along the way like in KOTOR 1.

Bottom line, after along day working or studying, if I have a choice between KOTOR 1 and KOTOR 2 to play to relax my mind, I would definitely choose KOTOR 1 (eventhough I have played it dozen of times). I don't ever want to touch KOTOR II after playing it the first time because I consider a waste of my time to play KOTOR 2 the second time.

It's just something for KOTOR team to consider!!!

KOTOR 2 is more than you think

If you play this game do not just skip through the story and do all the main missions, every character has an extended story. Your influence gets them to tell you who they truely are. The game is much too short, there is almost no way you can do everything this game has to offer in the short time you have. The first KOTOR characters are dull they are exactly who you think they are and they help you only in battle. Kriea for example increases your max force points all the time, you just have to talk to her. Every character is like this. If you have this game and do not already know all this play it again and see for yourself how good this game really is.

Awesome!

To start with, I absolutely LOVE Star Wars! The films are all very good, but nothing special in acting or storyline terms. What knocks me off completely though, is the sheer size of the Star Wars Universe. Star Wars is a completely believable parallel world, so it is so easy to get lost into it. I have never been a great fan of Star Trek, reason being that the storylines and surroundings are just not believeable enough.
Anyway, the first KOTOR just blew me away, as it was a completely different storyline with different characters, but still using all the Star Wars elements (planets, aliens etc) from the movies.
I have read most of the other reviews, and I don't want to repeat everything that has been said already. Story-wise KOTOR II is not as good as the first one. But this is being made up by improved character controls, graphics and so on. So when it comes to playability I could not recommend one over the other.
Now here is the reason (for me) why if you have played the first KOTOR you MUST MUST MUST play KOTOR II:
KOTOR II uses worlds and locations from the first part that you would have come across with REVAN and that you are now visiting with the EXILE. I just cannot describe the feeling when I visited Dantooine, which in KOTOR II has been destroyed and lies in ruins. All the hairs on my body stood up straight and I felt a cold shower running down my back. The very moody music in the background just helps to amplify this. The same can be said for Korriban. I can only ever remember to have had this kind of feeling when watching an extremely moving film - but to get this from a GAME?! Unbelieveable!
Please guys, hurry up with KOTOR III - I need another fix!

Potential for Game of the Year BUT....

Comeing from someone who has played the orginal Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic I came into this game hyped for it. The overall Storyline is great and leaves off in a cliffhanger letting you come to a realization that there will be a Knights of the Old Republic III in the future.

Where this game shines is story driven arcs. I completed this game in about 40 hours and I consider myself a casual gamer. Most likely hardcore gamers will run through it faster.

Where there are blemishes and potentially where it'll keep it from winning out against games such as Halo 2 are the bugs in the game. There are some points where you'll run into ocasionally where it seems impossible to get past. Then you'll realize that it's bugged. To bypass this go into your load game manu and go into your latest save (most likely the auto save point) and run through the area again.

Otherwise this is a great game and should be even better for the PC when it's released.
