This sequel pretty much sticks to the same gameplay as the first one, which was a smart move considering how many bad sequel games there are because of changes. The main downside to this game is the story. It is interesting up to the end, but never reaches any big climax like you are expecting. The new influence system is really cool, allowing you to turn your allies to the light or dark side with you. There are several bugs like the first one and some more annoying ones - like when the game freezes. Overall, it's a fun game, but it could have been better. If you loved the first one, you should definitely give this one a try. If you never played the first one, then I would not suggest getting the sequel since you will be missing the back story of the game.

This is one game that actually is much better than the original. The game starts off 5 years after the 2003 game of the year.
There are numerous new features in the game but the best is the amount of force powers, there are 30 more force powers than in the first game. You start the game off as a Jedi and the sith are hunting you down thinking that you are the last remaining Jedi of the order. The game spans over a massive seven worlds that are much larger than the worlds previously. However the game itself is one of the greatest games I have had the pleasure of playing if you don't like this game you don't belong anywhere near an Xbox.
Knights of the Old, really.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II is a good game, but it suffers from the same defect as many sequels: its predecessor was a truly fantastic game. Part of the first game's beauty was the seamless integration of real time combat and a simple to use and understand interface. While still a good game in its own right, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II suffers on a couple of fronts. First, the graphics are inferior to the original game. The story is less compelling, and while neat, the level of customization available for items can detract from the enjoyment of the game. Itemization can be frustrating. The interface is not as user friendly. There is too much information, and the details take away from the enjoyment of the game, rather than helping to immerse you in the game world. Character skills are more important and at the same time marginalized. Plot lines take much longer to develop and personally did not have the same resonance as the first game.
However, even though the above was true for me, I still find myself playing this game frequently. Unlike the first game, however, I will only play this one time. Had this game come first and first game as the sequel, I'm sure my opinion would have been different. While good, this product failed only in that it had to follow in the footsteps of a superior offering from BioWare, creators of innovative and fun games.

This game is a huge improvement over KOTOR.
Pros: Better facial expressions, you start out in the story as a dispanded Jedi, you can pick three classes; Sentinel, Councal Member, or Knight, you can choose area of specialty; Force, Weapons, or Master, More force powers, Really high replay value
Cons: Really their isn't really anything wrong with this game
This is the diffibate ultimate Jedi experiance. If you want really fast lightsaber action pick up Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of The Sith.
10 out-of 10 stars
Great Game, Awesome Sequel

First of all, I'm not 13, so don't expect a illiterate review. But on to the game! This game is very good in many areas, but it does have its share of flaws. I love the story line on this game, because you can choose to become a powerful Jedi or a fearsome Sith, which in turn makes the replay value high because you'll want to beat it twice to see both outcomes. Also, the weapons in this game rock. You can wield anything from plasma torches and lasers to mines and lightsabers. The color of your lightsaber, as the Star Wars junkies like me reading this know, depends on which side of the force you choose. Give in to the Sith(which is what I did) and you'll get a flashy red lightsaber. Become a Jedi and you'll wield a nice blue one. Either way you choose, the story line and action is great.
Now every good game has its share of flaws, and this game is included in that category. First, the main flaw for me is the fighting. This may not bug everybody, but it does me. You actually tell the command to go into combat mode and then it fights and swings swords for you. For me, killing and destroying things is the whole purpose of fighting/RPG games. It's not that big of a deal, but it does bug me. The next flaw is the camera. I'm probably being picky on this, but when you round a, say right corner, usually you tilt the right thumbstick right. But it's the exact opposite with this one. You have to either press it left or go all the way around your character. This can be very annoying, especially if you've got a droid on your tail. Finally, the last flaw is the graphics. The characters faces and body types look good, but man the backdrops and items look terrible. As wierd as it seems, I've come to rely on Star Wars for pretty decent graphics, but it seems here they focused all on the characters and none of the surroundings. But this doesn't really take away from the game, so it may or may not bother you. It did personally bother me, considering the Xbox's standards.
Minor Quibbles aside, this is destined to become one of the greatest RPG's ever. I've never played the original KOTOR, but I've heard it's great. Even if it's half as good as this, it will be awesome. Great job guys and all we can hope for is Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic III. Hope this helped!
A decent game, but not the RPG that the first was

When I first got this game I had extremely high hopes because of the amazing prequel, but I am sorry to say Obsidian's version is not half as good as the original. The original was a novel RPG. You made choices, did quests and it was all integrated into one compelling story. One of my favorite parts of the first game was all the different side quests that didnt have to do with the main story but were crazy fun to do. This new one has none of these practically. All the quests are based on you trying to get to your next enemy. The places have little depth and it seems more like levels to complete than an RPG where you can interact with environments. I mean, one of the best parts of the first game were getting bounties and then finding the people only find out that the person was innocent of their crimes. You had to make choices to kill them anyway and make money off the bounty, help them escape, or force them to pay you for your silence. These side auests werent part of the exact story but they sure were fun. The new one is sadly lacking in these side quests and you can only interact with a few people. Also for star wars fans, the new game designers did not do their research on the star wars world. I am not a star wars geek but just from seeing the movies I saw flaws in the game where the designers went against the real star wars world. My main example is the fact that there are 3 sith lords and anyone whos watched any of the movies probably knows that there are always 2, a master and an apprentice. Overall, this game IS pretty fun and addictive, but it really disapointed me in the fact that it failed to even come close to the older original in story or depth. Also it only takes a week to beat or so and the replay value is minimal because of the lack of side quests. Luckily for people who love kotor bioware came out with a new game, Jade Empire, which makes this game look about as fun as being kicked in the stomach. My advice, rent this game and then go get some other RPG if thats what you actually want, an RPG
Just as good as the KOTOR 1

This game can be compared to a Madden game. Just when you think Madden couldn't get any better in 2005 they come out with a better 2006. Its has everything KOTOR 1 had and more. I really dont know why people are bashing this game. The new personalities, new worlds, new gameplay just adds to the fun that KOTOR 1 offered.

Quite honestly i think it is to be expected that the original would be better than the second especially with a series such as this where you choose what happens in the plot (light or dark side). With the first game of a series such as this its easier to write a plot that will run smoothly because you have a clean slate but with the second game you cant really make it so it runs so smoothly. You have to make the game so it runs smoothly no matter which path you chose on the first game which i think is a pretty difficult task. They did ok with this task but at times the actual story line was quite confusing but overall they did ok. I do think they did a better job with the powers and such. You were able to get a lot higher level then you did in the previous game so you received more powers.
The game was not awful by any means. I think that if you play the game knowing its not going to live up to KOTOR 1 you will enjoy it quite a bit more. I recomend that you play the first KOTOR before playing this one because then you will see the series at its full potential and appreciate it a lot more. Also know that it's not going to be as good as KOTOR 1 when you start playing, it helps quite a bit.
Oh the bugs

I will start out by saying that I absolutely loved Knights the of the Old Republic. That game was fun and engrossing and I couldn't stop playing it until I had won.
Knights of the Old Republic 2 could have been all those things too... if not for the bugs... and crashes. The story could have been fun if I hadn't had to restart my Xbox constantly when it froze between nearly EVERY level. (Of which there were probably too many to start with.) The game has potential.
I wanted to play it so much that after getting annoyed and frustrated with the terrible mechanics of the game that I went out and bought it for my PC to play... yeah that really doesn't work either. I downloaded the patch and hoped that would fix it but no. I have all of the required components on my computer and all but one of the recommended... it doesn't play at all. Very nice. I wish that they would rerelease this game without all of the bugs and terrible clunkiness. I would probably buy it for the third time in the hopes that it might live up to the first game. I don't know if I even have the patience to finish the game.
Bad job game designers. The story is probably great, but I never will know!
Update: I kept playing, in spite of myself, and after you get past the first couple of worlds the bugs aren't quite so terrible. The story is wonderful so stick with it. This bumps up my overall rating by one star!
So much more than just poor sequel

No one ever expects a sequel to match the original, but even when approaching it from that angle this game is horrible. If you must play it, do yourself a favor and wait until the game is on the discount rack......which by my estimation shouldn't be too long from now. Had this game had to stand on it's on merits, I have no doubt it would be a complete and utter failure. Why? The storyline......what little there was extremely lame and weak. There is only one thing truly genius about it, they were able to take a 5 hour story and stretch it into 40 some grueling hours of bored anticipation. Bored anticipation?!!!? Whatever do I mean. I'll explain. They kept showing movie clips of things going on with the characters and things around you, but not a single one played out. For instance, it showed me a short clip of someone making contacting with Carth, but Carth played absolutely no role in the game and no information adding to game was given in the clip......so your setting there bored to tears playing the game, but the clips lead you to believe more is just about to happen, that the plot will thicken, that finally all the hours of torture you've endured playing this stupid game will pay off, but then....well, just when you can't believe the game could get any worse you come to the ending and the game plummets to lows no video game I have ever played has reached. Your only sense of satisfaction is knowing you will never have to endure another minute of torture playing this game, hoping praying and having the faith to believe it will get better.
I could write plenty more about my disappointments in this game from its annoying plotless no personality characters, to the mundane get you nowhere fast tasks, to the add no real value to the game conversations, to the who thought being a jedi could suck fights, but hopefully I convinced you to save yourself a little money by waiting to purchase this game. This game isn't just a poor sequel it's a poor game overall. But if you choose to waste your money on this game......well don't say you weren't warned.
Oh, sorry but one more thing that really adds to the cons of this game......all the time spent waiting for scenes to load....I turned on my computer and surfed the web while I waited, trust me you'll need something to do because you won't get wrapped up in the plot (or lack thereof) of this game.
