"Not As Good As The Original,....... Still Great !!!"

Star Wars KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic) 2,... is an overall great game in my opinion. I've just got done playing through the game and must say I was very impressed. KOTOR 2 expanded the universe even more than the original and also answered some questions I had about the first game. KOTOR 2, in ways is improved from the original while falling short in some other important areas. Star Wars KOTOR 2 is very similar to the original KOTOR in about almost every way in fact. Hey, I give Obisan credit for making a great effort of improving or expanding from the first KOTOR,.... but really all the extra stuff got a bit in the way of completely enjoying the game. Hey, if you've loved the fist game you'll be in for quite a treat.

So, here's the basic story.... you play as an ex-Jedi, an exile!!! Exiled from the Jedi Order after serving under Reaven in The Mandolorian Wars. It has been 5 years since the end of the Jedi Civil War,... the Jedi have become nearly extinct, as a new threat comes out of the darkness. Yes, the Sith are back but, this time fighting a new type of war feeding/preying on the Jedi!!! The Sith will not rest until all the Jedi are destroyed. The Sith mistake you of being the last Jedi and pursue relentlessly!!! You must find your place in the galaxy and either unite your allies and defeat the darkness,....or of course be unite your allies in darkness and destroy all who oppose you,... which is always fun. You of course must choose your own destiny which will effect not just you, but the others that follow you.

The Good And Bad :

Hey, the story is an great concept, but believe me not well put together by any means. There is no background information or history behind the so called "Sith Lords" they each only appear 2 or 3 times during the entire game. It doesn't matter since Darth Sion and Darth Niphlis ( the two sith lords) are pretty much pushovers and can be defeated easily by any KOTOR veteran. Also the story is excellent until the end of the game when they pretty much destroyed the whole story. The plot twists in this game are just stupid and make no sense at all what so ever; WTF!!! In the original KOTOR the plot twists were unexpected and had you saying wow,.... This game is freaken' awesome... but when you see some of the plot twists in the game you'll see what I mean by WTF (What the f**k)!!! Also, towards the end the game gets way too easy....... think of it this way a level 25 Jedi with tons of force powers and max attack upgrades!!! Yes,.... There is nothing wrong with that but really slicing through enemies like butter,....and killing them out in less than 5 seconds really isn't what I had in mind. The only semi-challenging parts were when you played with other party members, besides yourself, which really is ironic. More options..... yes but as the game comes to a close none of that matters. Give me a break they don't even have an ending to the game,..... the game just ends with you flying into space.

Bioware had the right idea,... in the first game!!! They had you for the first part of the game as either a rogue, soldier, or scout for the first part of the game which helped you learn lots of other useful skills, and waited until the second part of the game and started mastering the Jedi arts and such,..... example!!!

KOTOR:

Jedi Counselor ~ level 10
Scout~ level 8

KOTOR 2

(example)

Jedi Counselor ~ level 19
Weapon Master~ level 5

.......starting off as a Jedi has it's advantages and disadvantages, yet the funny thing is you play the first part of KOTOR 2 without a lightsaber!!! Obisan should have least have tried to put an ending,.... The ending is what pissed me off and one major reason this game isn't a masterpiece like the original,.....!!!! Really after playing the game for 48 hours, you should be rewarded with a good ending, that will make all of your efforts of completing the game worth it. They obviously rushed the end,.... !!! The game though gives you a lot more variety and choices, yet some of the life of the game is sucked out of it by some designing flaws. In, the first KOTOR I never seen the game have one bug of level flaw in the entire game, and hey just take a look at KOTOR 2 with all of the bugs like for example walking through doors, and such. The original also added way more detail and made the environment exciting with breath taking graphics. KOTOR 2 adds new worlds to the game such as Telos, Onderon, Duxun, Malchor 5, Peragus 2, and made the game longer with more detail..... but the levels and environments were somewhat bland with no excitement..... and the graphics were not state of the art by any means.

Yeah,... some of you may be wondering what I mean by how "your choices effect others". Your allies are influenced by your actions!!! This new system is called the influence system,...!!! What you say or do,... will effect your party in some way. It is sometimes tricky to gain influence on someone some comments and/or actions may cause you to loose influence on a character as well. So the more influence you gain the more loyal and open they become, but losing influence does effect your party. If a character trusts you, that will open up more conversation and such,... but if a character doesn't trust you they basically shut you out and ignore you plainly. You do get more characters avaible to you with a lot of other customization options, but the characters aren't as interesting and talking to them really doesn't get anything solved,.... with no side quests for each character unlike the original... which kind of sucks. The whole influence thing just gets in the way of game play. The influence system in a way is both good and bad; but in general more harm than good.

You also in general get a lot more options than the original!!!! In fact 40 more force powers than the original such as Battle Meditation, Force Scream, and so on so forth. You do also get more combat options with different techniques you'll learn throughout the game .... that are pretty cool, and even helped at times with moves such as force channel, force enlightenment , and others lightsaber techniques. You can even control how you want your characters to combat using combat formations such as : ranged ~ adding a bonus to ranged attacks, grenadier ~ adding a bonus to grenade, stationary ~ used for stationary attacks, and aggressive ~ which makes your attacks more effective with your current weapon. So,...Obisan really improved combat and more to it all.
Also on another note all the load times get very annoying,.... That has been something that has always annoyed me was the massive load times walking into a room load time,.... Give me a break!!!!!

(Spoiler): HK 47 is back..... badder than ever!!!!

You do also have the new create items system which was pretty cool. I though never got into it that much,.... But you can basically create weapons, items, armor, out of components, and or chemicals.... Which added some more options to the game. They also added some new upgrade options to all the weapons (especially the lightsaber) and new armor combinations. The customizable options really make this game unique,.... I created one heck a double bladed lightsaber. It did take awhile to get used of all the new changes and extra stuff, but once you get the hang of the game you'll be hooked. KOTOR 2 did fall short of what I hoped, but if you loved the original, and/or RPG's be sure to check this out.

Overall, Knights of The Old Republic 2 (KOTOR 2) is truly a great sequel to the original,..... and answers a lot of questions about the original,..... yet some designing flaws and the uncompleted ending drag the game down. Some great improvements and some bad changes,..... they also got rid of the Rapid Transit System as well,.... The game is nothing innovational, but is a notable game.

This game is a great game.... The gameplay is much better than the first and the features are alot better than the first. The graphics have been boosted a tad bit, the replay value is very impressive. The character development is not better than the first, it is different but just as powerful, the ability to influence your partners into becoming Jedi is pretty damn cool. Also the item costumizability is very diverse.
On the con side. The frame-rate slowdowns are quite annoying but they rarely occur. The story line seems a bit iffy, i mean it is a really good story line, but it doesnt seem whole, the endings dont seem complete at all. At some points during the game you are forced to use characters from your party with the absense of the main character and if you dont know to manage your characters well, those parts get inmensely difficult.

Pretty good overall

This game is pretty good overall. It has good graphics and lots of features. There are also many good elements and the plot is very exciting. In some places it can be very challenging though. I don't recommend it if you dont have much time on your hands, it sucks you in and keeps you playing for hours. So you might not want to play if it is a week night or there is something important the next morning because if you play it will keep most people up all night. People have a very high level of attraction to this game due to the plot. It has not lived up to expectations though, most people agree that the original Knights of the Old Republic was better overall. Very fun but remember it is absorbing and people will get attracted and play for hours at a time.

A.I. problems, but fun overall.

In the second installment of KOTOR, the player can choose to make their character (The Jedi Exile) male/female, a Jedi class (Guardian, Consular, or Sentinel) as well as light side/dark side. The XBOX graphics remain chunky for my tastes, but the roster of selectable facial features is quite impressive, especially or female exiles. It seems that you can't choose a face for the male exile that isn't either angry or pro-wrestler material, though.
When it comes to classes, the only ones that appear to help you through the game the most are Guardian/Weaponsmaster and Sith Marauder or Sith Lord (who, at level 18, becomes a God that can clear a room of enemies in 2 hits). Consular/Master only seems to help increase influence with the party, so in my opinion, the action and entertainment of your game weighs too heavily on a chosen class.

I actually got my hands on KOTOR 2 after working with the SW: RPG d20 system, so the stats and leveling system wasn't entirely unfamiliar. My gripe is that the rest of the party who join Exile are so weak by comparison! On Nar Shaddaa, when the Exile became unplayable for a brief amount of time, I honestly had a very difficult time trying to stay alive. I put a lot of thought into the rest of the team's development and levels, but there is a distinct gap between exile and party member power levels that will annoy you for certain missions. I especially became angry with the given stats of the team members, especially Visas. Her class later becomes Sentinel, but her stats barely reflect that of a supposed Sith Assassin.

And did I mention that your teams' A.I. is utterly useless? You cannot leave the team to their own devices since they will either a) die or b) get exile killed by running straight into a trap (sometimes both for increased frustration). The only way to run a successful battle is to do everything yourself. You have to input each character's commands before and during the battle for everyone to walk away relatively intact and weighed down by dropped or pilfered goodies. The enemy A.I. gives the player a nice, unfair break as you can run away from them. If you get out of the range of the random battle (you could still be in plain sight, right in front of them), they will just stand there until you move back within range. Improbable, yes, but that glitch certainly helps if your party is one hit away from dying.

There is also a major problem with your game freezing at random times. This could be during battle, or even as you are saving (this happened to me many, many times).

As for storyline, it is not as streamlined as the first installment. There are some major plot holes in KOTOR 2, but it is still fun thanks to new and returning characters. However, it doesn't help that some missions and storylines are never resolved, depending on the order in which you take on and complete tasks for NPCs. Oftentimes, you can get stuck if you do missions in the wrong order, so keeping track of multiple save files becomes another task.

When it comes down to the final question ("Yeah, but should I buy it?"), you have to ask yourself if you are a hardcore gamer and Star Wars fan or a more casual fan. If you are a casual fan, you probably won't have the patience to endure most of the downsides to KOTOR 2. If you play many games, it will most likely be easier for you to anticipate glitches and adapt or get around them. Not to mention hardcore SW fans can deal with the massive amounts of repetitive dialogue, that can easily become boring for others.
I wouldn't recommend this game to novice or casual gamers, as it can easily become a frustrating endeavor. However, the rest of the gamers can easily get sucked into leveling up, lightsaber customization, and the additional Romance options of KOTOR 2.

I have played the first Knights of the Old Republic and the Sith Lords. I have to say that even though there are more force powers, light sabers and better graphics-that the first game is better than this. The Sith Lords is a great game with one major downfall. Obsidian Entertainment developed this game and they thought it would be "neat" to have absolutely no choice as whether or not the player has to use certain charecters. You are forced to use droids on a number of occasions (including the stupid little probe droid), Mira(3 times), Atton(2 times), and go on 2 missions without the main charecter(which isn't bad at all considering you can still use Vissas and the Handmaiden). Kreia is a completely worthless charcter. She never helps fight opponents and just loves to give force speed all the time which becomes very irritating. Also all the advertising for this game greatly builds up a showdown with Darth Nissis(not sure if I spelled that right-the guy with the clown mask). He is a main figure in all the screen-savers and commercials and on the box. The game makes him seem immensly powerful as he supposedly travels around the galaxy "destroying" entire worlds! But, you do not have to face him alone, which it wouldn't matter if you did because he is as easy to beat as the simplist droid worth 100 XP points. It took me all of a minute and one try to completely anihilate him. Not to mention I did the same to Darth Sion the first time I met him but the game forced me to run away-why?-cause I was about to kill him? This game is lots of fun as long as you get to use a Jedi/Sith-but it does have lots of sketchyness to it as far as story and defeatability. Great game, but whoever makes the third one should re-consider the use of pointless, annoying, and weak charecters. I mean instead of fighting with Mira-I'd just assume let her die, and let the game continue. I wouldn't pay anymore than $35 for it, so let the price drop or buy the first game.

This game is a expanded version of the first one with the same excitement and originality. The plot is great and it requires you to think and plan as you progress through the game. The game feels like a movie at times in which I am playing the leading role. I highly recommend this game for anyone who likes strategy games and likes to be challenges to think.

Disappointing!!

This game in no way lives up to the original. It is at times boring a repetative. The story is dull and the ending isn't dramatic at all. Do yourself a favor and save your money, I wish I did.

very difficult to live up to a great game..

For the sake of brevity, the quality of the game is very good with only a few annoyances:
1. The path-finding abilities of the AI is terrible at times as your own players (and to be fair, some of the enemies) get stuck behind obstacles not only during the meanderings, but the fight scenes.
2. The load times! Saving is rather brief, but load times of saved games and area changes almost warrants a book to read. Accidentally running to an 'area change' line almost makes you consider restarting the Xbox as it may be shorter than two area change load times.
3. General bugs, which are hysterical at times. As when in the middle of a firefight an NPC will demand your attention and will want to know if you are available to talk.
4. The weak plot is just so... um, weak.

If you are a fan of the first, it is still one of the best RPGs out there. If you haven't played the first one, finish that one first as the beginning of the second will make a lot more sense.

Kotor 2 must be the best game i have seen ever before! This game has
7 worlds each with its similarities and differences from the first game. If you are on the light side, then certain worlds are open to you, others aren't, and vice-versa. Obsidian took over for this game , but the game is still great. Lucas Arts and Obsidian are friends any so you don't need to worry. I'm happy about them having the force choices in the game again, witch really made the first game a hit, along with the rpg side of the game. It's amazing how you can acually change whether fighting is turn-based, or real-time. This is my favorite game easily.

I was reading some of the reviews that were posted on this site and they sounded as if they were employed by the developer to hype this game up.

I'll give you an honest review..... This game is fun to play but the quality of it is very very very bad. I ran out of patience with this game after I returned my second game due to bugs. The first version I had looped in the opening credits. The second version I had stuck me in a place on Nar Shadaa (a planet to explore)with no other options out. One door was sealed ahead of me and a second door was sealed behind me. When I research this game thinking I just didnt find a switch or something to get me out I was surprised to learn I'm not the only person to experiance glitchs in this game. I would not buy the xbox version if I had to do it over again. I enjoyed the original version of Knights of the Old Republic from Bioware, but this game leaves a whole lot to be desired. Obsidian Entertainment should be ashamed that they put such a piece of junk on the market. I wouldnt be surprised if this game is recalled. I feel they rushed this game to the stores for christmas just to make a few bucks. What ever anyone does do not buy this game.
