Boring content, slow combat

This is a waste of time for online players. Since the changes Nov 15, 2005, this game is more buggy and laggy than ever. The content is sorely missing and the combat is slow. I would suggest checking out other online games Amazon has to offer because this one is a disappointment.
A galaxy truly, truly ruined...

Brawler classes are being forced to use Skill Points that have nothing to do with their profession from Brawler's skills, why do I say this? As a Master Swordsman, 2-Handed Swords, I have to have the 1-Handed tree in which there are no modifiers for 2-Handed Weapons. This applies to all four Brawler Classes, meaning you need a tree that does nothing for you other than waste Skill Points that can be used elsewhere to improve your character. Why was this done? Most likely because all Ranged Professions require not only their basic tree from Marksman but also Ranged Support. What this means is the same Skill Points are used to be either a single Master Marksman Elite Profession as a Brawler Elite. I understand this concept but at least the Marksman get modifiers from the Ranged Support tree that help them no matter what they choose. They should have added modifiers for the other professions that the trees are required for instead of making them just Skill Point wasting trees.
Used to be a good game

As with any game of this genre (MMORPG) you expect change. However, almost 2 years into the game the basic game mechanics were scrapped and replaced entirely. This has left the majority of the game worthless. If you buy the original game with no expansions it is close to unplayable. There is no content that fits with the new game mechanics in the old areas of the game, which is 90% of the game. There are more bugs after this change then there were when the game went live in June 2003. Half of the professions (all non-combat) have been rendered useless with no timeframe to be fixed. They weren't useless before this change.
The games community was not even aware of some of the biggest changes in the game until it went to beta. Then all the bugs that were discovered in beta went live. Yes, these bugs were not fixed. The explantion was that not enough people were giving feedback on the bugs. However, the bug forums were littered with hundreds of posts about bugs. So the live servers became test servers. Everybody became the developers QA staff. We should not have to pay to test a game. Yes, some volunteer to do this, but others do not and this was forced upon them. There were so many issues with the publish that put these changes in that it's impossible to list them all. A few servers had to be rolled back and reapplied. These rollbacks were not to a backup taken from right before this went live, but to a week before. And in one servers case it was rolled back twice to almost 2 weeks prior. That is 2 weeks of your precious time playing lost. On top of that the system was more unabalanced then the previous system they had.
The biggest change that I talk of is a change from a skill based system to a level based system. Actually it's now a combination of the 2, and neither work well together.
The community is still waiting on fixes for the hundreds of bugs introduced with this new system, and as of this writing it's over 2 months later. There is no ETA on fixing the non-combat professions which were rendered useless. This development team is known for leaving broken professions in for long periods of time. An example being the Smuggler profession. The Smuggler profession was promised a total revamp after initial launch, and several times since. Here we are almost 2 years later and that profession is worse now then it was before. The Smuggler profession still can't smuggle??
I'm sorry, but I find no reason to pay a monthly fee for a game that is not even close to playable anymore. I used to have 2 accounts and logged on everyday. After this big upgrade I found that I didn't even want to login anymore. They removed the "fun" that was Star Wars Galaxies. The game is to unstable to play. If you do login there are no where near the number of people around anymore. A large portion of the community has left or been banned because they gave constructive criticism against these changes. Yes, banned, and not for being ignorant, but banned because they gave good feedback on a horrible system they didn't like. This was so they could hide any negativity from newcomers.
Anyway, I hope my disappointment in what has happened to this game helps you in your decision. I know I rambled on a bit, but oh well, such is life.

In the name of corporate profit SOE has taken "Star Wars Galaxies" and turned it from an enjoyable adult level combat and economics simulation into a mindless game for children. SOE ignores the wishes of its customers and has driven out and destroyed the veteran player base of SWG as a matter of deliberate policy. I have never dealt with a company more dishonest and abusive to its customers than SOE. SWG is worthless garbage, I beg you not to waste your time and money on this game.
Thanks,

This game just blows!
It is neither a first person shooter nor is it a role playing game. Yet, it tries to be both and does so in an absolutely disasterous way. Examples- you can't shoot through things that get in your way, but the enemy can when they shoot back through those same things! Everybody in a class is exactly the same so, yea, you can be a smuggler and you will be exactly like the other level 40 smugglers in the game. Oh, and by the way smugglers do NOT SMUGGLE in this game! If you are an Entertainer- YOU HAVE NO PURPOSE IN THE GAME. It just seems they forgot to program anything for entertainers to do.
This game is mind boggling buggy. You can't finish a quest? Hey no problem you get an automated ticket back saying "We are aware of the problem and working on it." Really? Do you want to pay $15 a month for a game that you can't play owing to problems they are "aware of and working on"? The condition of this game is little better than an Alpha state, it certainly isn't even in a beta state (Alpha and Betas are conditions of games before they are released to the public.) However, get the picture? This game is NOT in a playable state as a game!
Look, there are some very fun Star Wars titles out there. This just is NOT one of them. Please, please don't waste $78 dollars on this garbage. Besides, the hand writting is on the wall, this on-line game is closing in the Feb-May time frame according to many sources.
STAY AWAY!

I was 7 when I saw my first Star Wars movie Im 35 now and I wnated to play in the Star Wars universe. SOE shot my dreams into space junk and all I could do was cancel my account.
Just read the many reviews and steer clear of this game.
From the top down it has a funk of death. I give it 6 months to live.

Originally was THE best MMORPG out, now...well...all i can say is don't waste your money. The game is on it's last leg, and will be a $4.99 game soon. Player base is leaving in DROVES. On one server they started a cancellation thread and roughly SOE has lost $6000.00 a month in subscriptions due to the NGE. SOE propaganda states, there is a small vocal minority that oppose the NGE...Don't take it from just me, or just this board...research it for yourself...it's more than a small minority....for me being a day 1 veteran, pre pub 9 jedi (which was unique at one time) it became a glorified chat program after the 1st combat upgrade...but with this latest change (NGE) they have made a completely NEW GAME. It is NOT what they advertise it is....it's no longer a MMORPG, but rather a VERY LAME attempt at a FPS for a console. I'm sorry but there is no balance anywhere in the game. There IS NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, nor CUSTOMER RESPECT.
SOE/LA have consistently LIED/Misrepresented things. The original selling slogan was "Live the greatest story ever told....yours", now it's all cookie cutter...everyone is completely equal, there's no diversity. Originally you could mix your skills with different professions, 32 in all....now....there's 9...and you cannot dabble in others to compliment your main one.
In Summary...DON'T BOTHER...wait for DDO, or Dark and Light. Or even WoW (not a fan of but some love it)
and hopefully Lucas will realize what happened and come out with a REAL star wars game.

Sony has decided to completely change the whole game after almost 3 years of game play. They have dumbed down the whole game to try to encourage children to BUY (not play) the game.
**This USED to be a great game. Sony has implemented 1/2 tested, 1/2 thought out changes that no longer make this a fun or immersive game.
Combat:
They HAD a fast paced unique combat system that was fun to use and NOW they have some 1/2 thought out fps style system that is clumsy, slow, and unrealistic.
Professions: They HAD 34 professions to chose from...
NOW they have 9.
Jedi: Jedi WAS a prestige class you earned after so many force quests. It WAS powerful and fun. NOW...it is a joke. You can choose jedi when you forst start but you are very weak, sabers do less damage then any blaster and you have no defense so you are constantly getting killed.
Server Population:
Servers used to be listed as heavy because so many people used to play and enjoy this game. NOW they are all listed as VERY LIGHT.
Missions: So many of the missions are bugged you can't complete them now. Creatures are SO strong you can't kill them even with a group of 8.
Save your $15 a month for something else.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS

2 Years Down The Drain *AVOID AT ALL COSTS*
Well I have just Canceled my subscription to Star Wars Galaxy ( I purpose waited till it was released, it see what finished Item was like )
All I can say is the Developement team Need sacking....
The New NGE has Merged the worst elements of the Everquest 2 interface with the old Starwars Galaxies interface and failed. This is the main reason, I have canceled after 2yrs loyal game play
Thats not including SOE getting rid of my beloved Creature handler and Bio-engineer ( which all that experience has gone leaving me with a level 57 fool )
I will outline its major failings
1 The game play is 4 x faster, making combo attacks inpossible and heals ( as there is no time) also the speed increase ingame messes up all the sound, charactor Npc interaction and even delaying the attacks
2 The respec allows for 1 proffession where as before you could combine 2 proffessions and master them say Bounty Hunter and Smuggler (now when you respec, half your items , like armour and weapons will not work ) leaving you sometimes naked and defenceless
3 The interface is locked in certain places , restricing game play
a: radar will not increase in size
b: Text boxes vanish, allowing on click to view old text
c: The tool Bars ( used have 2 rows for you to place combos and food now its 1)
d: To now interact you need to press keyboard ¬ to access say bank terminal safe deposit boxes, repair vehicles, and about 100 other things ( before NGE ,your mouse controlled most things , making for easy action )
I could continue , but I really and sorry to admit it if gone past angor and could cry, of all the wasted time and effort. On all I can call as the worst conversion in the History of Online Gaming...
Yours Mayor (eclipse) 2yrs (845 days signing off from SWG)
Severe dissapointment

This game has spiraled into oblivion from Day1 never living up to what it was meant to be. Avoid at all costs.
The game was fun for a while, then progressively the devs dumbed the game down. Now from 32 profession and open ended gameplay there are now just 9 professions. Originally we were assured player crafted items would always be the best, then with the addition of exceptional and legendary weapons loots became the best. Loot enhancers were the only way to make great weapons, then with some great wizdom the Dev team killed crafting in one swoop with the NGE. Now stats don't matter on components, enhancers are all useless and everyone will have the same weapons with NO DECAY. Player economy will spiral down even further as you only have to buy 1 of each weapon for the life of your account. Vets are leaving and the game is turned into a glorified FPS with playschool style crafting.
