I personaly enjoy this game more than many other mmorpgs... The charecter animations are much better which is surprising for an old game. It has supurb sound, especialy on kashyyyk. The new content added with the recent expansion (Rage of the Wookiees) may need a lot of work, but added so much enjoyable content that I can look over that. If some of the players would get better at flying their Jump to Lightspeed ships they may not have quit, but for the most part the people who quit were just looking for an exuss to quit and/or are just cry babies. THE COMMUNITY IN THIS GAME IS SSOOOOOOOO MUCH BETTER THAN MOST GAMES THAT YOU'LL ENJOY JUST TALKING TO FRIENDS. The CU may not be as enjoyable for all players as the old system, but I have faith in the fact that it will increase the long-gevity of the game and make it a better place to play.

This game is extremely addictive and all the negative talk about the CU should stop because the people that are going to be buying this game won't know what life was like pre-CU. I have been playing Galaxies since the CU came out and I couldn't tell the difference as far as game play was concerned with SWG and any other MMORPG out there. All of the complaining has come from veteran players who had to change a few things with their character and are not able to solo a Kyrat Dragon anymore. The CU was a good thing overall for SWG because it forces players to meet other people in the galaxy, form groups and have a more enjoyable experience anyways. After all, aren't MMORPG's supposed to encourage group play and not make you able to solo everything? If you are looking for a game that you are supposed to solo on, buy KOTOR, but if you want a real Star Wars experience, buy this game.
Don't believe the complainers

This game is awesome. Don't listen to the reviews that are just complaints and hurt feelings. The problem is that the only ones who speak up are the ones who are mad about something. These guys are powergamers...they just want to be the best on the server and they are mad when they are not. There is no room for powergammers in this game and those people are constantly unhappy. However the vast majority of the players GREATLY enjoy this game and play it all the time. It is the best game I have ever played....a total Star Wars emersion if you will let it be. Like all games this intense there are some bugs but the devs devote a ton of energy to fix them and we get fixes downloaded constantly. I have been playing SWG since it released two years ago, and I love all the new content. The combat upgrade is amazing...the devs did a fantastic job on it. It changed the whole game and gave people something to learn again. The other reviewers got mad because they weren't "uber" anymore...the problem is they didn't take the time to become "uber" under the new system...you can still be a God but you have to use your brain. The new expansion was fantastic and adds a TON of new content. Trust me, just try it...you will be hooked!!!
An enormous game of considerable scope

I think that you will like this whether you are a hardcore Star Wars fan, or whether you are looking for a space-based MMORPG that will keep you coming back for more.
SOE has upset lots of the original fans by changing drastically the game, but overall I think that the game has improved and it represents great long-term entertainment.
I have played on and off for nearly 2.5 years and it gets better all the time!
If you are not sure about purchasing it, go to the SWG web site and try the demo :)

This game was 5 stars at launch in june 2003, It was so much fun before everyone got composite armor, the time that raiding ancorhead was fun. The game then turned bad when jedi came out, then it got worse over time.
I loved raiding rebel bases and having huge fights, with my imperial master rifleman. That was probably the best part of the game, but over time that died out too, then soe took turrets away, and then they released the combat upgrade, which ruined the game, and made the combat seem like every other game out there. In my mind they could of kept the old combat system, with just a few changes, like make rifleman dissapear off the map when they go under cover, i loved the fast paced action of the old combat system.
In the time of not to many jedi it was fun to get a group of 20 players to just take out 2 rebel jedi, but now regular players are rare instead of jedi.
If they would just take the game back to where it was in oct 2003, back when you could have out 3 troopers and a atst , (instead of now where you only can have one) and just get rid of composite armor then the game would be good.
Back then when there was no speederbikes and right before player cities came out it felt like a adventure to have a house way far out in the middle of no where in lok, i would set out 2 houses with my friend and some harvestors to mine for resoures, and a ton of dangerous creatures were always coming around, one time a huge kimogila came onto our property, we had to sick our troopers and atst on it just to survive(cause if we died we would have ot walk all the way out there again),my crazy rodian friend died but me , being a medic i dragged him into the house and rezed him , that was so much fun, but now that fun is ruined since speeders came out and now everyone has mastered professions there is no danger of creatures, and there is wayyy too many houses you can berly see any land left. :(
I love the weather effects like the rain on naboo, and the sand storms on tatooine and lok. And i love the houses, and how you can customize them.
Over all this game could of been the best ever but a few mistakes goes a long way.
I just hope lucasarts makes a new starwars online game one thats not a mmorpg, somthing more like planetside but not all combat.
If this game would of been managed by a company like blizzard then we wouldnt of had all these problems to begin with.
Good game for the right person

This game is great for the fact that there is a lot to do in the game, and that you can have just about any proffession, but from what I have felt about star wars games, this is not like an ordinary star wars game, yes it is set in the star wars universe, but this game is made up of diverse people, not all being die hard star wars fans, so if it bothers you that people are not die hard into role playing, this might not be the game for you.
oh and the guy with the dell, high speed is not always high speed, check your bandwith www.2wire.com and also dell in not a strong computer they are just cheap, and have 45% of the market. strong computers are home builds with real motherboards, not those all components built on the motherboard pieces of crap that dell builds.

I have been playing Star Wars Galaxies for roughly four months now and I am totally addicted. If you're into RPGs and the like, or Star Wars for that matter, then this game is definitely worth checking out. Included in the buy is a free one month subscription to the game. After that subscription ends you'll need to purchase additional subscriptions, which cost $14.95 and it is well worth the price, in my view. After playing this for two days I knew I was addicted.
The game universe is so emmense and beautifully detailed. The gameplay is fantastic and the replayability of it is off the charts. A lot of the older players have complaints that the Combat Upgrade diminished the playability of the game, however I wasn't around when the Combat Upgrade was administered, I find that the gameplay is terrific and very easy to get used to.
It is well worth the price, as it includes the first game, Star Was Galaxies: An Empire Divided and two expansion packs, Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed and Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookies.
No one cares, really.

It's really quite simple: if you have played this game before CU, you will hate it, if you have not, there is a very good chance you'll enjoy it. Which is a good thing to know, since most of the reviews here are from old-timers who assume that their frustration with their ruined profession will somehow apply to someone who is going to be playing for the first time.
And another thing, since when is 3-5 discs such an inconvenience?
If you've bought anything within the last two years you will know that this has become a standard. So why dosen't everyone just buy a DVD drive? Stop complaining.
I would also like to point out that despite the number of discs the game installs rather quickly. And don't assume that the ammount of time it takes to update the game is because of bugs. Most of that meat you're downloading is new content. Most bug fixes are solved by rewriting a few lines of text. I know there have been some complainers whining about install time and think that they have uber-PCs. Only problem is, one of these guys seems to think that his "Dell Windows XP with High-Speed internet" is going to rip up the competition. Sorry, but for all we know from your cryptic little specs you could be packing 16 megs of system ram and 550mhz processor. You don't know what you're talking about. Buy this game.
