eh?

You would think that Lucas Arts, whose brother company ILM makes such amazing graphics for the movies, would make amazing graphics in their video games. You would also be wrong.
I do admit swinging the light saber around and destroying like 15 droids in 2 seconds rocks, but at the same time the game seems to have like deleted scenes and levels.
That's my one complaint, after beating the game, they showed a movie that seemed to have nothing to do with the actual game. At no point in the game do they refer to the little kid Aniken, yet the entire closing movie (a whooping 10 seconds long i might add) eludes to the idea that you should have been interacting with kid the whole game. If i hadn't seen the Star Wars movie i would have just drawn the biggest blank.
So in review, i'd wait until they break out with the Directors cut version of the game, so that you can play all the really cool parts that should have been in the game.

Don't Follow the Anti-Hype

So you are considering buying Obi-Wan but you have heard from EVERYONE that it [is bad]! Having played through the whole game, I have to say that I agree with some of what has been said in the reviews. Firstly, the shadows are annoying, and the camera isn't as intelligent as it might be. The Control system is okay, but not as refined as you expect for a game of this type.

That said, this game is fun! It has an engaging story and over time you can overlook the flaws in the presentation of the game and allow yourself to be immersed in the Star Wars universe. When I started playing I was disappointed (who wouldn't be after playing Halo) but I would go as far as saying that playing through the game has been a terrific amount of fun, and I will be playing through it again.

In summary, The graphics are not bad, but are not as good as they could have been. The game is engaging and fun and if you give it the chance, the game will grow on you!

Fun to play, but not a keeper!

I rated this a four, because it asked how much fun is this game. It is a fun game, but it is nothing like Halo. Using the force is an interesting twist, and once you get the controls down it helps out a lot. However, it would probably be a great game to rent, if you had a few nights to play all the way through. The graphics are lacking, and it hangs when lots of characters enter the screen for a fight (for a second or two), and I don't think that should happen on the Xbox. So, definitely worth a rental, but once you beat it you won't be itching to have another crack at it.

You are a Jedi!

I must agree that this is the closest thing to what I want to see in a Star Wars game. I prefer adventure games to combat simulators such as X-Wing. Like the recent Spider Man games you get all the cool powers of the hero. You can defelct blaster fire. You can throw boxes at people. You can swat guns out of peoples hands. You can force shove people off balconies. This is the type of stuff I want to do: run around and kick ...jump through the air with a flair for acrobatics and cut your opponent to ribbons. Yes, there are stil some discrepancies, yes a metal sword shouldn't be able to deflect a lightsaber. But still.I had fun playing this game. The Jedi dueling is fun too. My biggest complaint is that some of the later levels get a little too long between saves. But hey, i guess that's part of the callenge.

Greatest Game ever

First of all there are over 22 different enemies in this game. For Max Payne fans, there is a force slow motion feature. Also the controls rule, and the multi player is great. This is what a great game should be.

Takes a while to get to the good stuff...

I remember when my dad took me to see Star Wars at the Mann Chinese theatre in 1978. I really wanted to be a Jedi Knight. I thought that this game would help me get there, but I was a little disappointed along the way.

First, the graphics are terrible. If this were on N64, I would think that it was pretty cool. Having seen Halo and Munch, this one hurts.

Game play slows at times, leaving you stuck with stuff to do and no way to do it. The hard drive whirs incessantly -- I believe that the programming for this game is kind of substandard. Levels load as quickly as Jar Jar Binks gets off camera in Episode 1 -- painfully slowly...

However...once you get past the first three really bad levels, there are some that actually require some thought and imagination. I admit that I enjoyed those levels, and I even enjoyed learning how to confuse the game...and you *can* confuse the game!! There are times when enemies should charge you but get caught behind walls, surprised by grenades, etc...

All in all, I don't recommend purchasing this game unless you are sort of young. I don't think that there are enough challenges for the regular gamer. It's good for the 5-day rental and perhaps even a renewal. I'm not a really serious game player, and I think that I beat the game within 15 hours maximum.

LucasArts redeems themselves!

After years of suffering through bad Star Wars games ("Phantom Menace," "Force Commander," "Super Bombad Racing") it seemed that LucasArts totally lost their grip on what was once the best gaming company out there.

When "Obi-Wan" was being developed for the PC (as the sequel to "Jedi Knight"), fans everywhere were sweating with anticipation. But once it was cancelled in favor of an XBox port, almost all attention turned away from it.

I know that people now have knee-jerk reactions to Star Wars games, but this deserves a chance. Everything about this game rocks! The graphics are gorgeous and fluid, the level designs are brilliant, and the multiplayer combat is addictive!

The control seems awkward at first (mostly due to the Xbox's controller) but a quick tutorial and a few levels later, you're executing elaborate lightsaber moves and force attacks without thinking.

Hats off to LucasArts. With "Obi-Wan" and future titles like "Jedi Knight 2" & "Knights of the Old Republic" it seems they've finally pulled themselves out of a rut.

Now, how about some more adventure games, fellas?

Buggy, Ugly, and Repetitive

This game crashed twice on me in my first day of playing it. There have also been several points where the character gets trapped in weird shaking sequences that are hard to break out of; major object detection problems in the engine. The game gets repetitive real quick when it becomes obvious that you'll be wandering around monotonous corridors waving your light saber at enemies that look exactly the same. Speaking of looks, each character in this game is made of about 11 polygons. Obi Wan has a flat spot on his head that you could set a coffee table on. Animation is ugly too, arms don't seem like they are attached to torsos. Voice acting is horrendous, the fake Ewan McGregor voice sounds like it belongs in The Rocky Horror show. I would avoid this game.

GAMERS way too hard on OBI-WAN - recommended

For a non-flight/aviation game, OBI-WAN is the closest thing to what I have wanted in a Star Wars game since I have been playing. The levels are challenging enough to keep me playing and interested as a fan. There are a few cons = ) On certain levels Jedi Qui-Gon leads and helps you through a mission. Qui-Gon will stall at times and will not to lead you any further... even bumping him repetitiously (and pressing the yellow button). Also, if you accidentally start your game playing on any other controller aside from controller one, and you fail your mission - you will not be able play any further until you reboot the system and start with controller one. One more thing - the blue trigger around your enemy doesn't always execute....BUT, let me stand up for the game - I have been highly entertained. I am giving it 3 stars because I know they can do better, especially close-ups on the saber fights (like any good boxing or fighting game). These 2 star and under reviews are not being completely fair, but I realize the slight disappointment. I would give it a chance

It could have been great!

I bought this game for my son who loved Jedi Power Battles, playstation game(That is an awesome game). I was hoping it would be that good, but it is so dark and gloomy. It is fun for adults, but watch out for kids. If they would have made the levels like the training level, it would have been a fantastic game. But it is dark and scary, and I don't recommend it for children of any age. Why they did this I will never know! It could have been a fantastic game!
