I received this game for Easter and have been enjoying playing it. The game is fun to play however, it is a little confusing sometimes because of the invisible doors and items. But, once you start playing it is hard to put down.

I got this about a week ago. Now I have only heard good things about this and one big negative...lots of dialogue. Well being new to gaming (only got my Wii about 6 months ago) and having about 10 games I wanted to try this one out. Sure I expected story plot and training to start out with... but I had to sit through what seemed like 10+ minutes of dialogue explaining the weird story of the game before I could even make Mario move AND each time you start the game you have to keep hitting the 'A' button to move through the dialogue over and over again (so far I have done tons of button mashing to try and find the skip intro stuff and nothing seems to work). I do find it not as intuitive as previous games I have played as you are holding the control stick sideways turning it into a regular game pad (that you can point at the screen when you need clues or explanations of villians and creatures on screen or secret doors or passages). I am not a good gamepad player, hence my not doing most video games until the Wii. Beyond the talking in the beginning there is plenty of long talking segments in the game too...but they are farther between game play. I am already up to chapter 2 and now have two 'Pixel' guides following me around. Just how many guides you get in the end I don't know. I keep playing the game hoping to really enjoy it and I finally sold it to my roommate (who ironically was going to sit down last night to play the game for the first time and when he realized he had all that starting dialogue to go through he said 'another time, I have better things to do with my time'. He then grabbed his disc for God Of War and went to play it on his PS 2). He is a major gamer...all three systems. I am the one with the Wii. So if you have Mario Galaxy I wouldn't waste your time on this one unless you really want another Mario Game. Of course my tastes may be different. I like No More Heroes at the moment and Mario Galaxy. Plus the Lynx training game with the gun shooter (going to upgrade to Zelda soon). So maybe it is just the types of games I seem to be gravitating towards. If you do get it, get the used discount copies if you can.
Definately a winner

I purchased this game after going through so many games that seemed to be nothing more than a flop for me. And I am pleasantly surprised! The graphics are amazing, the storyline is interesting and the concept is easy to understand. Even my 5 year old is enjoying it. There are a few points where he needs assistance, but other than that he's enjoying it just as much as I am. Even my husband finds himself "backseat driving" from the couch!
It's the classic Mario; a blast from the past. He jumps up and bashes boxes, hops on turtles, and catches flying coins. But there is a little twist in this game that makes it even better than the origional. He can flip between 2D and 3D, making your perspective look different. Thus showing you secret passways and revealing tunnels to get you through when you really thought all hope was lost. But make sure your not in the 3D for too long, or you will loose life. (Approx any longer than 30 seconds)
I would hands down reccomend this game to anyone looking for something fun and out of the ordinary "shoot 'em up" games. Excellant for children (in my opinion ages 5 and up) and adults as well.
Have fun!
Another great Wii game

I am so glad we decided to buy the Wii. This game is is one of those reasons. It is like the old Super Marios, but it is more involved and is a blast to sit and play. My kids can play because it isn't to hard, but they still have to figure out how to do certain things to advance, so it keeps them interested. Great game.

I know I'll get death threats for this, and possibly a visit from a Donkey Kong hitman, but I thought this game was only so-so. It has the typical cheesy, shallow story line, which I'd be fine with, except for inconsistencies and an apparently poor translation at times. The level designs are fun, and the flip in dimensions is innovative and useful. Making the game play for the most part quite fun.
My one major complaint is switching the pixels. As much fun as some of the powers are, the play mechanics to switch between them will suck you right out of the game. To have to frequently jump into the menu system make a couple selections and switch your pixel is a real drag. I'm perplexed that they didn't treat them like swapping out guns in a FPS, which would have made much more sense, especially considering how essential they are for normal game play.
Otherwise, I believe I would have found enjoyment through the entire game, instead of

I am going to say the pros and cons of the game.
Pros: 1. It is a very fun game
2. The character's abilities and pixls are fun to use.
Cons: 1. WAY TOO EASY!!
2. After you beat the game, there is basicly nothing to do.
Overall a 3. I recommend renting, not buying the game.
Lots of fun, but too much talking!

I want to start by saying I really enjoy playing this game. It's lots of fun with its different levels and tasks. There's plenty to do, and while it's not easy, it's not overwhelmingly difficult. I did finally break down and buy the guide, but I only use it when absolutely stumped. Despite its cartoonish appearance, this game is probably not good for really young kids (under 8 or so depending on gaming exp) because it is rather tricky sometimes. Personally, I find it just challenging enough to keep my interest, but not so hard that I want to quit (and I'm 24).
Now, that said, as much as I enjoy the game, the amount of dialogue drives me crazy! Everyone you meet wants to talktalktalk about stuff. Yes, a lot of it is important to the plot and gameplay, but not all of it. Also, you can't really make it go faster, so you just have to sit through it. I can understand that this would turn a lot of people off to this game, but I enjoy the game enough that I'm willing to put up with it.
If you're unsure if you are willing to deal with the talking, I suggest renting it first (the only reason I bought it before trying it was it was on major sale here on Amazon).
Not Super, not quite Paper Mario

The game is incredibly disappointing. It tries to be several different things and fails completely at all of them. As a platformer: the action is finicky and the level design gives you no sense of purpose in backtracking to find all the extras - and the 3D flipping actually exacerbates this. ("I've gotta run back and look at this boring level *again* with a different perspective?? Which 9 times out of 10 will reveal nothing of interest?? No thanks.")
The RPG element has been almost completely removed, to the extent that calling it a Paper Mario (let alone a "super" one) is borderline fraudulent. (And in terms of aesthetics, PM never looked all that much like paper to begin with, but - whereas they could have made the textures more convincing with the Wii - SPM looks more like some demented retro Tron rip-off. IMO there's very little charisma in it.)
The absence of turn-based combat removes the strategy element, which - although very "lite" - I found quite infectious in Thousand Year Door.
I guess the jokes are occasionally amusing, but overall - despite the reviewer's take - I'd say the writing is a step back from PM and TYD.
Lastly the control scheme: I agree the pointer-based tips are gimmicky and unnecessary, and changing the grip on the remote sort of takes my focus out of the gameplay. Similarly, the game requires frequent changes of character, for mostly boring reasons (as opposed to challenging puzzles) without giving you a good way to do so. In Thousand Year Door on Gamecube, you could manage this with a single D-pad button; here, it's a trip to a menu, and feels tedious somehow.
All in all the game just seems too easily impressed with itself. Again and again I walk into a nearly empty room, see the puzzle, look for the twist, and there isn't one. It's just the most obvious of ideas dropped into lazy designs. There's also this bizarre sense that most of the game is "optional" - its favorite gag is to present you with a challenge in 2D, encouraging you to have a look in 3D, whereupon you realize that you can just walk around and ignore said challenge... Or, you could just walk around and ignore this entire game.
Happily, I've got the excellent Galaxy to play, and also downloaded the original Paper Mario for $10, so no shortage of good stuff. But Super Paper Mario reinforces a lesson: ALWAYS rent first, no matter how confident that you'll like a game.
If you haven't already played it, order a copy of Thousand Year Door and a Gamecube controller instead.
WONDERFUL!!

I absolutely love this game!! I have played all the games in the Paper Mario series, and this one is just as good as the others. It will have you enjoying yourself, scratching your head in confusion, and absolutely laughing out loud. The gameplay is easy to get used to, the storyline lovely (how does Nintendo keep coming up with storylines!? You'd think they'd run out of ideas), and the text part of the game is clever. When I say laughing out loud I mean it too, there are some puns and some parts are just plain silly. This game uses the Wii remote, maybe not as much as some games but it lets you interact more than you would usually be able to in your average video game. All of the Paper Mario games have kept me entertained for hours, I highly recommend all of them and especially this one!!
