This game is a lot of fun. I have been playing it with my kids for the past month and it is one of the most creative games I have seen in a while. It is good for all levels though there is a lot of reading instead of talking so if your child cant read, they may struggle a little bit.

I haven't beaten the game yet but according to my Wii I've spent over 12 hours playing the game. There is a lot that goes into each level. It's more than just running through levels like past Mario games and just beating the bad guys. In a lot of spots you can waste hours just trying to figure out what it is you need to do. Not going to lie, I have used a few online Wii Cheat sites after getting really stressed out. I love how you can be a bunch of different characters and you obtain pixl's as you progress which allow you to perform different types of actions. You actually have to know when to use which character and which pixl which I think it's unique. It's a ton of fun. I recommend this game. If it weren't for the constant pressing of the 1 button to get through all the dialog that looks like it's intended to be humorous this game would get 5 stars... my favorite game so far for the wii.
Great game play, but waaaaaay too much dialog

Super Paper Mario is an absolute blast to play. There are lots of great hidden areas to find, special moves and attacks, and flipping from 2-D to 3-D is very cool. On a scale of one to five, the game play is definitely a five.
But this game has far too much 'talking'. The game starts with several minutes of video and dialog sequences setting up the back-story of the game. This goes on so long that you will probably stop caring (I did) and want to just play the game already. Then throughout the course of the game, there are dozens of long story sequences (mostly characters 'talking' to each other). All you can do is read the text, click through, and wait until you get a chance to play again. These sequences sometimes last several minutes.
Like all Mario games, the difficulty isn't very high. But Mario isn't really supposed to be a challenge to hard core gamers. If you're looking for a game that's light, fun and not too difficult, and can deal with the dialog screens, you'll enjoy Super Paper Mario.
Pros:
- Great game play
- Lots of hidden areas and goodies to discover
- Switching from 2-D to 3-D
Cons:
- Too much back story dialog
- Doesn't take advantage of the Wii's special controls
Summary:
Unless you're a hard-core gamer, or you just can't get past the long (and boring) back story and dialog scenes, you'll enjoy Super Paper Mario. Buy it!
A bit too simplified, but still holds great fun

Super Paper Mario is yet another game in the "Paper Mario" series of video games. If you don't like a game full of reading, or can't bear pressing A through a lot of text, this may not be the best purchase. It's a very kid-friendly game, otherwise, because the sense of humor is silly, the visuals are colorful and well-designed, and the gameplay is simple and easy to learn.
The game is perhaps TOO simple for a more mature audience, however. It is a paradox in that a younger audience would be less likely to get bored of its puzzle simplicity, and yet that very audience may not have patience for the amount of text in the game.
The game is mostly fun, although a tiny bit repetitive, and despite the fact that unlocking my favorite character didn't come until almost the very end of the game.
I would recommend this to anyone who loves the Mario RPG sense of humor, and especially those who played the old Paper Mario games but wanted something with a little bit better pacing in action.
An interesting new twist to the series

Super Paper Mario, though to me not as good as its predecessors, is still a good game that's worth renting if nothing else.
They get rid of the old turn-based battles, and go back to Mario's 8-bit roots of platforming, jumping on enemys, and the beloved "?" blocks. It's not a bad change, but it's definitetly not the best change either. The worst thing about it is that it makes the game a lot easier, but at the same time it makes one feel so nostalgic.
Definitely the most interesting new implement to the series is the ability to go into "3-D". It adds a nice new dimension to the gameplay (literally). It adds more depth to the puzzles and obstacles in the game, which is very nice.
Now to the bad parts...
I'm about halfway through this game and I haven't really met any cool new interesting characters. There's Count Bleck, who's kind of neat I guess. He has a monacle which is always cool. He's not nearly enough to make up for the severe lack of cool new characters though. His minions are all rather boring/lacking personality, and about every other character is old.
There's also a severe lack of extra goodies. The game seems to be devoid of side quests, badges, and the like. It makes the game too linear and last shorter.
Overall it's definitely not the best game out there, and it'll definitely be a breeze for any veteran gamer. Despite that, it's still definitely worth trying.

This game rocks! The characters and situations are familiar to anyone who has been playing the mario series over the years, but there are some new (and I mean New) variations that keep this game fresh and interesting. The primary new feature is the ability to 'flip' from the standard side-scroll 2D into a new dimension - 3D! This alone makes the game different enough from previous incarnations, but there is also an RPG element (you can switch characters when it becomes necessary to use a different skillset). The cartoonish graphics, which are reminiscent of South Park, are cutesy, but work nicely in the context here. If you love mario, you will love this game!
Mario Falls Flat

After so many years it seems that the next true "Mario" game is "Mario Galaxy"...but in the meantime we have "Super Paper Mario". Sort of a spin-off to the normal "Paper Mario" franchise, "Super Paper Mario" melts the platforming elements of Mario with an epic story of a classic RPG. And this is where it begins to fall flat. An epic story this is not, as Mario must battle a cut-out count heck bent on destorying a dimension not even nearly related to the Mushroom Kingdom. As this quasi story progress Mario adds allies to his roster and the story meanders forward.
The controls are pretty basic and work well with the Wii's narrow controller. The graphics are beautiful, colorful, and simple. Each character is rendered wonderfully. The animation is top notch and the "classic" sound effects are presented well.
For the most part "Super Paper Mario" work great. It's a must have for the Wii's relatively weak library. Mario fans will enjoy the platforming elements mixed the RPG elements of leveling up. One of the funnest parts of this games is the cooking aspect. Players can collect ingredients and mix and match of make a truly inspiring mix of recipes. What also works well is the classic mix of characters. Nostagia is present as Nintendo offers up the ultimate mix of playable characters for the game--each one is duly represnted and equally fun.
So what doesn't work for "Super Paper Mario". What it lacks most is heart. The games comes off cold and truly lacking that Mario magic. The second half of the game feels rushed and Nintendo's desire to have Mario be the ultimate hero can leave some fans of the franchise wishing Bowser could save the day. Power ups can be few and far between and the tie to "Super Mario Bros" is lost after the first level. After that is takes a different turn with excessive dialouge and lack of spirit.
It's easy to see why this title was moved from the Gamecube to the Wii. As a Gamecube game is would be easliy overlooked but on the in-demand Wii it's most essential. While not a bad games, "Super Paper Mario" is not a an amazing game. Hopefully as the Wii begins to build a solid library Nintendo game re-visit this idea and great a title that is legendary.

I bought this in a rush during a Gold Box sale and I wish I would have checked it more thoroughly. This is only for one player, so my two sons have to take turns (this does not go over well, by the way). This is my own fault for not checking, but I wish I would have held out and just bought the Mario Galaxy (higher price, higher ratings, and one to two players capable). My sons do enjoy playing this one, though. If it had been designed for two players I would have given it a higher rating.

My wife and I both played through this game simultaneously and we both enjoyed it.
First off, this is an easy game. My wife, who has never finished a game before was able to play through this game with only a little help from me. Also, anyone who has finished any other Super Mario platform (eg Super Mario 1-3, or Super Mario World) will be able to complete this game with ease. This game is geared towards people who are interested in trying out video games but don't want to invest the time it takes to master a 12 button controller, however there are some optional side missions that will put up a good challenge for those willing to look for them. There are also a lot of side missions you can play if you get tired of the main story. One cool feature of this game is that once you beat it you have the option to continue playing the game to find all the side quests you missed and some new side quests open up.
For the most part this game plays as a simplified 2D platforming game that throws in a 3D elements to make things interesting.
I felt the story was a little too bland for my tastes. However the story does server its purpose, which is to tie all the different levels together. The story doesn't take itself very seriously and throws out quite a bit of random humor. I would probably peg most of the humor at a 3rd grade level which made me smirk once in a while but for the most part made me roll my eyes. Lots of really bad 'mustache' jokes.
For me the game is enjoyable enough to play through once but my wife wants to start up a new game to try and beat the whole thing herself. So if you are an above average gamer this game probably isn't for you (unless you want to play some of the classic SMB levels in 3D for nostalgia). However if you like casual games that don't pose too much of a challenge then this will be a fun game for you.
So I give it 3 stars.
A great game for kids... who can read.

A very fun game. Nothing like mario in the 2d setting... just nostalgic. I'm not a quick player so i'm pretty sure people can go through this game in a day but its an easy game to just pick up and play for a bit and set it back down. The puzzles aren't drawn out to long periods of time which allows this.
There's a lot of dialogue who gives you hints on how to beat the level. Never played the first paper mario but compared to the older marios, it's not a straight 2D side panning race to the end. With different puzzles, which some involve information gathering from locals... you get stuck on some parts if you're like me who tries to skip dialogue cuz they're fillers to waste time. The plot is simple and short and though the levels seem to be from a cookie cutter set, expands from the previous marios with 3d pathways.
