Best paper mario to DATE!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 2

At first I was kind of weary on my purchase for this game. I waited about a month before i finally succumbed to a purchase. I had been reading reviews and some were good, but not all. But, like a giddy little school girl, i rushed home and popped the game right in.

At first there is a good amount of talking that you can't skip, but it just adds to the story and helps build up why you're doing what you're doing.

***also note, watch the beginning video. that's where the wedding is, and the game will reference back to it a few times.***

Once all the talking is done you get to play. Your first task is to find some guy that lets you interchange between 2d and 3d views. I was a little skeptical on if this would make the game just too easy or not, but too my surprise, i enjoy how they encompassed it into the game.

At times there are obstacles, or even paths that you would not be able to normally find without swapping your view. You do have a time limit though with this, but it only takes away 1 health... so don't worry about that.

Also, finally this game is NOT turn based. THANK YOU! you just run up and jump on your opponents, much like in the old NES and SNES days. This gives the game a much more classic feel, and is one more reason why i love it so.

Even my mother that will only play the older mario games, tetris, and donkey kong, LOVES this game. It one of those games where no matter who you are you can just pick it up and play it, and enjoy it at that.

The length of the game will keep you going for a while, and there is a nice selection of unlockables that you can get to add more to the gameplay.

I highly recommend getting this game to anyone that has the slightest curiosity about it. This game has gotten close to the most play time out of my wii, and yes I have zelda. This game really is that good, and will be one of the ones that shows why this system shines.

10 stars out of 5. Amazing game.

This game is flippin' sweet!

Despite what some reviewers may say about the game's wordiness, Super Paper Mario is still an excellent game.
If you are a fan of Platformers or RPGs, look no further than here. And if you like Mario--This game will be pure bliss!

You need not have had any experience with the previous two Paper Mario games because the story is not affiliated with the other games. So, you can be a Paper Mario novice and still have fun switching dimensions.
Switching dimensions--what's this madness?
Yes, the feature unique to this game is the ability to switch from 2-D to 3-D to solve various clever puzzles which get better the further you progress through the game.
As I have said before, this game can get a little verbose at some points for some players. Not for me though, I love reading. But I understand that many others would rather just play instead of just scrolling through text that they would not read anyway.
If you can get through that, you will find a definite gem underneath the words. Super Paper Mario is another fantastic game to Nintedo's library that will not dissapoint fans or newcomers.
For $50 you get your money's worth because the game does have some deapth and length to it.
I have no regrets in buying this flippin' awesome game, and I encourage you that you give it a try as well.

Same 2D brilliance but with an added 3D bonus

Personally, I believe mario belongs in a 2-D world. This game is great in that it keeps you in 2-D for most of the game. You tend to only need 3-D when you're stuck or are curious and want to look around. The levels can be quite challenging and the characters are pretty unique and comical (several make fun of pop-culture). The game can move very fast if you know what to do. Tons of walk-throughs out there for people who just want to beat the game. In addition, it does a good job implementing the Wiimote. You hold it like the old NES controller but you can also use it as a cursor by pointing at the screen. Great game and lots of fun.

Inventive, engrossing, beautiful, and fun!

This is one of the best games I've played in recent history. It's such a wonderful game that my wife became so engrossed in it that she didn't let me play it unless she was sitting by my side to enjoy the inventive gameplay and story. The mechanic of flipping from 2-D to 3-D allowed the developers to put such clever gameplay puzzles in the game that every few minutes, we would be "oohing and ahhing" and giggling at its brilliance. And the story is very well-executed, very funny, and even touching. Controls are handled very well and are very pleasurable with the Wii Remote. This is one of the definitely must-have titles for the Wii, and really reminded me of why I love gaming to begin with.

Classic Nintendo

Ever since I first played Mario on the original NES he has held a special place in my heart. My love for him led me to buy a Nintendo 64 instead of a Play Station, and when the Wii came out I felt that it was time to once again chase the little fella.
Super paper Mario, while an RPG still holds many of the aspects I have always loved about Mario games, and ups the anti with an enjoyable storyline and inventive game play. What most impressed me however, was that this game achieved what I, for the past 8 years failed to achieve, it got my wife hooked on video games. For that alone it deserves a 5 star rating.

This is a GREAT game! (for adults)

Why this may seem like the average old school mario game that you used to play when you were a kid, don't be fooled. Not only do you get the side scrolling view, but you can also switch into 3D mode. A mode that is necessary to complete many of the games puzzles and also to find alot of the hidden goodies! The game is almost near perfect except for one small exception. WAY! TOO!! MUCH!!! READING!!!! The entire first half hour of the game is just reading! Which is why I say the game isn't for kids. They just simply won't want to do all the reading that comes along with the game play. Even I have trouble doing the reading because conversations can just be endless at times. Other than that though, the game is alot of fun to play. It includes some retro elements for us who like to feel nostalgic, like the power up with you're surrounded by little mini 8-bit marios who protect you from enemies. And when you jump, they do too, but they make the jumping sound that was in the original mario bros. games. And there is also a power up where you turn into a giant 8 bit mario, as well as a part of the game that is an exact replica taken from the original Mario bros game. You also get to play a variety of characters. Mario, Peach, Luigi, and Bowser. And sometimes it's necessary to switch to these characters to help you through the course. Now, I am one of the people who consider this an RPG. Just because you need to use items, buy things, the storyline, and of course, the reading! I've even played RPGs with less reading that what this game has. but the reading aside, this is a fun game and a kid can even play it. He or she may not understand the storyline, but how much of us REALLY cared about the story of the game when we were kids?

2D... yet 3D?

Super Paper Mario is the newest Paper Mario game in a long line of RPGs featuring everyone's favorite plumber. This version is significantly different then it's predecessors. One thing different is it doesn't feel like an RPG at all. It plays like a regular Mario game except you have HP, items, and you level up. I think it was a wise decision to do this because everything seems to fluent. One amazing aspect of this game is the 2D/3D switch. If you press a certain button, you move from side-scrolling to actually looking behind Mario. This adds a whole new aspect to the game. There are many puzzles that work using this gimmick. There are some downsides to the game though. There is a ton of words to progress the story, and although there are some funny moments, most of it could have been shortened. It is also a very short and easy game - it can be beaten in 10 hours or less. Overall I highly recommend Super Paper Mario to anyone who likes RPGs, Mario, or fun games!

Disappointing and Slow

I enjoyed the first two paper mario games very much as a role playing game. This one is completely different and tries...I said tries...to be an updated version of Super Mario Brothers with role playing aspects. It doesn't feel anything like the first two games in the series. The story and dialog are slow and boring. The puzzles are decent and some clever. The 2D/3D switching is interesting to an extent. It had some entertainment value (therefore the 3 star rating), but I wish I had rented it rather than gotten my own copy. I would not recommend this title if you are expecting a Paper Mario type game for the Wii. If you haven't played those two games, you are more likely to enjoy this as long as slow story/dialog don't bother you.

Dissapointed to say the least.

This has to be the worse Mario game ever. I love Mario games and this was very dissapointing. First you have to click and read through 10 minutes of back and forth messages. Then you have to read crap like every other minute. The game itself is also dum. I would say it is for a 3 year old but they would not be able to read it. It is really dumb. Sorry I wasted my money on it. On ebay it goes after the boycott.

I really liked the game, thought it was easy though, I liked the fact that you can actually be Princess Peach in the game as well.
