good FPS, solid graphics, story, and play

this game has that something special, a combination of gameplay and graphics and other extras that make it a great game. Its a lot of fun to play.

I would have given 5 stars but the game is actually too long, if you can believe that. The animation for the enemies, and the character animation in general is pathetic...they just sort of slide around on the surface.

while most of the story was good, the story ending was a little uneventful. geo-mod is interesting but barely gets integrated into the story or gameplay. weapon switching is tedious at best.

O.K. Let me put it to you like this. This game is probably the best game i have ever played. I bought this game at a local store and it came with the game and the book to go with the game. I am not talking about any book but the strategy guide. So buy your game at wal mart or here. But look this game is great. I am telling you they put so much good stuff in this game that i would say it is one of the best games so far the year. See they use a geo-mod engine (geometry modification). Basically this allows the player to change the background of the enviroment. Games before could only char up the screen this actually lets you put holes or blow up walls. Like if you shoot a rocket launcher into a wall the wall wouldn't just turn black. It blows a hole in the wall. This can be really usefull because in level one, you are walking on this catwalk and there is a bridge about 50 feet below you. You can just take out your rocket launcher and just blow holes in to the bridge and take it out. THere is like a armored vehicle riding on the bridge and you can make it go through holes in the bridge that you created. This game must be one of the greatest games of all times.
The story is that you are on mars, and you are trying to escape mars. You work in mines on mars and the guards there treat you really bad and there is some unknown virus that is sweeping all over mars. Well this is a pretty good storyline already. BUt what is cool with this is that you get to use vehicles in the game! There is like 5 vehicles that you can drive in and all have some sort of weapons except the driller.
The only downside? Well they could have used a lot more geo mod and made it better. But they did a really good job as it is.

Red Faction is a new species of First Person Shooter (FPS). Red Faction introduces something called "geo-mod" technology. This means that you can blow up the environment with certain weapons. This is a nice add-on but is not used to its full potential, during the story mode. You have a full array of weapons to dispose of the hundreds of enemies that get in your way. This game is set in the not-so-distant future on Mars. You are Parker, a rebelious son, who, in an attempt to upset his parents, joins Ultor, a mining station on Mars. It turns out, Ultor makes life in the mines a living hell. Also, at the same time, a plague is killing off thousands of miners every day. After witnissing a fellow miner get beaten by an Ultor guard you decide to join the "Red Faction," a group of revolting miners led by the mysterious Eos. Your missions range from sabotaging an energy plant, to using stealth to infiltrate the administrating area. There are also five vehicles at your disposal. Each adds a cool feature to the game, but, like the geo-mod, they are there just there as bells and whistles. Rarely is it actually necessary to use a vehicle, although sometimes they are helpful.
Red Faction is a medium length game for an FPS. It took me 6-7 hours to complete. It's a fun game, but isn't a huge breakthrough from any other FPS. I think, if you are really into FPS you will enjoy this game a lot, so go ahead, join the Red Faction.

this is one of the best first person shooters i have played so if you are a fan of them i reccomend you buy this game.

This game has the best shooting graphics for any PS2 game! The blood, equipment, environment, weaponary, voices, and people are incredibly realistic. It uses GEO-MOD Technology, 15 real-life weapons of mass destruction--from,: 12mm Pistol to a Fusion Rocket Launcher!!, you can hijack, drive, and destroy 5 fully armed and awesome land,air, and sea vehicles. And, there's also 20 HUGE, awesome environments/levels, including: an underwater research lab, an underground mine, a waste land, and many more!! If you like shooting games, than "RED FACTION" is defenetily for you!! "Join The REVOLUTION!!"

First of all the geo mode. Finally a shooter that does not have the rocket proof walls. You shoot a wall and a hole apears. It adds a hole new demention to the game! The controls are a little trick but once you get usto it is is very easy and seemless.

Second the weapons all weapons have a second fire just like unreal tourny. The bots AI is very high even on easy it is a chalange!!

The Story mode is very involed and easy to fallow no studip keys to find you just blow a hole in the wall!

and with the geo mode there are some secerts in the multiplayer mode.

I just bought a PS2 and the first game I got for it was Red Faction and I wasn't let down. I have played the PC version and this is a great port. The graphics are sharp and once you get used to the play control you will play like a pro. The wide variety of weapons is a great aspect and the sound makes you feel like you are in the game. The story is also very interesting and one very cool part of the game, that is different from other games and is starting to become a staple in first person shooters to day is the ability to blow holes in walls and If you dont have a key to a door, blow it up. This makes the game very realistic.

If you like first-person shooters and you have a PS2, go pick this one up!!!

Ok, the story's a little cheesy, but it's a great 1st person shooter, and the Geo-mod rocks! I don't need keys anymore. Also, the game gets harder and harder and harder. While some people would throw their PS2 out the window during the last few msiions, I find it challenging. Save often is the secret to winning this game. The bosses are godlike in this game also. Incredibly hard. Only problem with this game is the controls, which reminded me of Resident Evil. Ugh! Oh well, I got used to it after a while.

this game is one of the easiest games i have ever played. it dosent let you know when you have beaten the level (if you even call it a level) and is sometimes boring.

This game is a total blast. It's one of my best games that I got right now. If you've played this in PC form, you won't be disappointed with this format. If you're looking for a mind-tester then this is it for you. There is a couple tricky parts if you don't have the right weapons to make it quick, but you'll never get stuck on anything, there's a way for it all. Making your own paths through the game is also bad a**. This game allows you to do about anything you want to, unlike a lot of other games out there. This game is a total blast, cause once you're into it, you're into it. I would recommened you not play this on a week night.
