When I watched the opening movie at the start of the mission, I was a little dissapointed with the graphics as the charactors had a very low polygon count. However this doesnt matter because its an fps.The actual levels look great. When you first start out the controls will seem a little awkward. If you go through the tutorial(you definetly should), youll get the controls down better and it wont be long and they'll feel fine. Also the overall diversity of the game. The vehicles are something youll definetly look forward to and there are covert levels where you will be in disguise but be careful to not get to close to the guards. I definetly recommend Red Faction to anyone who enjoys good action gaming.

I will start off by stating that anyone who owns a PS2 should immediately buy Red Faction. The Geo-Mod technology allows players to destroy ceilings, bridges, walls, and many other environmental objects. Not only is this extremely entertaining, from time to time becomes essential in order to progress in a certain level. The array of weapons is enough to make Frank Castle jealous, and the ability to hijack subs, tanks, hovercrafts, and machine gun-toting jeeps adds to the experience. In my opinion, this is the best shooter of all time (not to mention the multiplayer!!!) and is a must-have for any PS2 owner.
Great game, fun for years to come

This is a great game. Not only is the single player great, but my favorite part is the multiplayer. I love how you can blast through the scenary and find secrets behind walls. If you ever get bored of single player(which i'm sure you wont), just go to multyplayer and start blastin tunnels through the levels. The only drawback is that is only 2 players.

Of all the first person games I've played, this has to be the best. It's Perfect Dark, the first 007 for Nintendo, and Medal of Honor rolled into one. I have to crank my stereo all the way up to feel every explosion, every bullet, and every scream. Multiplayer mode is just as exciting as the game. If you play it by yourself, you can add six other "bots" to battle with, and if you're playing against one or two or three of your friends, you don't just have to play them. You can also add "bots" with your friends. This game just overwhelms me. I have to give it five stars. This is a must have game!
okay.......but could be better

Red faction is deffinetely a better first person shooter for the PS2. Everyone knows that the titles are lacking. In Waiting for Silent Hill 2 and of course MGS2,(the only games that look good) red faction burned some of the wait, but is too short of a game. THE ENDING IS POORLY WRITTEN. The geo mode technology certainly is useful and fun, but you really never have to use it. Graphics are decent, but stick to the real 1st person shooters, for N64, Golden eye, and perfect dark

Red Faction was a tough game to get used to. It was unlike any other FPS console game I had ever played before. So if you are used to games like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Timesplitters, or any of the other coonsole based FPS games, let me just give you a few hints. First, remember to save! Unlike the games I mentioned earlier, Red Faction does not have defined levels, and therefore does not automatically save. This can be a tough thing to get used to. My suggestion is to save whenever you have to load another area.
Second, Get used to the loading's progress bar. Although the developers have tried to put them in places where there is not much action, it gets kind of annoying when you want to shoot stuff, and up pops this annoying little progress bar, it's worse than using a Microsoft product.
Probably the biggest difference about the game is the multiplayer. Ever since Goldeneye we have been blessed with Flag Tag, One Shot Kills, and in later cases the ability to customize weapons. Unfortunately Red Faction has none of these. It doesn't even have hidden levels or characters to unleash.
Oh yeah, and as you may already know from the other reviews, this game also only supports 2 players in multiplayer, so you will have to be nice and share.
The thing that makes this game so great is the Geo Mod. If not for being able to blow giant holes through walls, then this game would quickly find it's way to the 50% off bin.
Now we just need someone from Free Radical to grab on to the technology so that we can really do some multiplayer damage.
Not As Good As It Should Be

If you liked Bond and Perfect Dark for 64 then this game is right down your alley....right? No......this game is in the same genre but those games blow red faction out of the water....Sure, the graphics in red are better but what kind of ..control scheme uses both analog sticks....honestly? Once you get the hang of it, after hours.......it still begins to bug you.....this game is a good game don't get me wrong, but it should have had the option to change the controls......Rent this game first before buying it to see if it is right for you......
better red than dead!
