Hello. This is a great game, but it has its flaws. Let's start with the good parts:

This game lets you drive one of four taxis, each with a different driver. Here's a list of them.
#1- Axel, a man probably in his twentys with green hair, has a basic cab with not many decorations.
________________________________________

#2- B.D Joe, a man probably in his late twentys, is a rapper-type guy with another basic cab. Nothing really special here.
________________________________________

#3- Gena, a woman probably in her thirtys, has red hair and is supposed to be sexy (sorry, really I am). She also has the fastest cab in MY opinion. Also nicely decorated.
________________________________________

#4- Gus, my favorite player, is a guy PROBABLY in his late fortys or early fiftys, has a small, unique cab.

Well, I say get this game, even though there is MILD language. I hope you still leave my review on, Amazon, but in this game they say the word damn. They also say the other word besides donkey. All in all, a very fun game. Please buy!

Sincerely, RedHawk48. GO COWBOYS! GO DESPERADOS! GO WHITE SOX!

Crazy Taxi was so original when it first came out, that everyone was going made over it, but now i think its wearing a bit thin. I do think that bringing this game out on Playstation 2 will give exposure to a new audience, but i think that they should of held of a bit longer and just brought out number 2 instead. Dont get me wrong i still think Crazy Taxi is a good game and i cant stop playing number 2, but i think that they are just going to be milking more money out of the Playstation 2 owners by releasing this one. If you have the cash to spare and you want something different then this would be a good choice and it will provide you will endless amounts of fun. (until number 2 comes out)

Great Game!

Dear Amazon.com Readers,

There is a video arcade in New York City called "Bar Code" and it was there, that I played Crazy Taxi for the first time, a while back. I can't tell you how fun I think this game is, and how much I got a kick out of driving on sidewalks and violating every traffic law there is! What a fun way to blow off some steam!

To the cynical reviewer who posted before I did, I am sure that this game will feature improved graphics and sound over the previously released title on Dreamcast. I hope that Crazy Taxi 2 is released on Playstation 2 sometime soon. Since I live in New York City, I will love being able to run people over, and show of my "road rage." I give lots of acclaim to Acclaim, and wish them much success on this game.

I do not yet have a Playstation 2 system, but this game makes buying one an extremely attractive deal.

Take care, as always,

--Daniel

this game is so freakin' cool

i get sick of playing games that take place in some medevil place or some futuristic scifi dimension. crazy taxi was the answer to my ailment. in this game, you're a taxi driver in what looks like southern california where you get to pick up college babes, punk rockers, and even old grandmas and take them to places like pizza hut and tower records.

the gameplay is incrediably fast, even when you're wrecking into 5 cars at the same time, and the graphics are just as great as they were in the arcade. the game only comes with two levels, however, both are very large and take awhile to explore. the default game control layout was a little confusing, but you're able to switch between two different layouts, and i found the second to be a lot easier to drive with. also, the soundtrack features songs from bad religion and the offspring which fits perfectly with the style of the game.

the only problem i had with the game is that when i play it in "original mode" (the second track), the game locks up frequently or error messages pop up; problems i noticed other people had with this game. also, some of the menus are confusing to work with at first and the game takes FOREVER to load up when you first start it, but entering the track happens almost instantaneously.

all in all, this is a game that is awesome and i definately recommend it to anyone who wants to have FUN when they play a video game.

Addictive

For those wondering about the play of ths game that haven't seen it in the arcade or on the dreamcast, this game is simply addictive. While driving a taxi around doesn't sound too intriguing, this game provides lots of simple, addictive fun for a gamer of any age.

The arcade version was fun. This is not.

The first arcade version of Crazy Taxi, with its instantly recognizable music and appearance, was an amazingly popular game. Its concept was simple yet irresistible -- to create a driving game where you don't have to worry about crashes, and where your goal shifts all the time so that it's the equivalent of 30, 40 racing courses. I was a devotee of this game and had spent hours on it.

This PlayStation 2 version lost most of the magic in the translation. For one thing, inevitably, the controls are just not the same without the steering wheel, pedals, and the all-important gear shift, without which (and without knowing the "boost" move) you could never hope to pick up more than five, six passengers before your time runs out. The PS2 version, grievously, sped up the game clock so much that the game just blitzes by. It took me a long time to figure out how fast you have to execute the boost to make it work, and even then, finesse of control flew right out the window. So the game became what it always threatened to become, a frantic, overly speedy experience fit to give you a heart attack, so fast that there's very little fun factor, just rushing to meet all the times without getting to enjoy anything.

So many games these days are about "beating the clock", probably reflective of our ADD-infested culture. Street Fighter became another flashy, graphics-ridden button masher; Syphon Filter now forces you to run through levels ignoring enemies just to meet their insane "par times", and Crazy Taxi requires the reflexes of a cockroach. Maybe I'm from an older game culture where you don't have to be on speed to compete. At any rate, this game was a sore disappointment. But I know I'll jump onto the next classic Crazy Taxi on my next trip to the arcades and hope it's still there.

What's with the BUGS??

10-15 minutes in the game and it FREEZES(crashes the PS2). Half of the polygons go invisible while driving. Obviously, whoever did this port was out to make PS2 look bad or was it just BAD coders. Hey Acclaim try testing the game before releasing it first and get some custumer service reps who actually know what a "crash" is. This one is being returned, hopefully they get it right for Taxi 2. Just sad to see a good game go bad.

Good game...but...

Crazy Taxi is a good game. It really is. But just after 30 minutes, it kind of starts to get boring and you just wish there was something else to do. The original game came out several years ago, before the Dreamcast came out. It is fun to play....if you play it once and awhile, than it seems pretty new everytime. This is not a game you play for hours and everyday. At least, not all the time. The graphics are just pretty much like the Dreamcasts'. There is no real improvment, which is disapointing since the PS2 has much better hardware and could have pulled off some pretty neat things. They could have at least added a new city or something. What is also lagging is a multiplayer. Then the game would get interesting. It's not really fun watching SOMEONE ELSE play. The sound is great but for some reason, the people you pick up have more of a vocabulary than the drivers, which kind of ... since your driver can' defend himself when the people verbally attack him/her when they say "YOU..." or something like that. The control is a little slugish and you'll be slamming into walls and buildings at first. But I have to admit, this game is addicting, just not that addicting. It's a good game to get, better than most for the PS2 right now. NOTE: I've read that a lot of people got faulty disks and everything dissapers and freezes. I was one of those people. The problem is fixed now, it's just that the first shipment was probebly rushed. But everything is fine now. Remember, the same thing happened to the PS2 and now look, everyone is happy.

Full of bugs

Be very careful when buying this game. If this is what we have to look forward to from Dreamcast ports, then we're in for a lot of trouble. What's wrong with this game? Where to start?

- There is a major pop in problem. Sometime, it's so bad, you can't see the street just in front of you.

- The street is frequently not there at all. Just the car in blue "air". Sometimes, turning a 360 will fix it.

- The music usually plays for between two and ten seconds, then stops. When it gets bad, two or three notes will loop for 30 seconds.

Yipes! These problems make the game totally unplayable. I don't recommend buying this game, yet. I hope they recall the garbage they've shipped, fix it and rerelease it. Then, it'll be one of the funnest games yet for the PS2.

If you've read great reviews of this game, they're from people who haven't played this PS2 port.

CRAZY TAXI IS ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER!!!

This game is great! Not just the cabbies have funny lines, but the people do to, they will curse at you if you are slow, beat the driver, even jump out the back of your convertible taxi.
In this game you can drive anywhere, on sidewalks, through parks, in the subway, eaven under water (there are cab fares to be picked up under water.
My favorite feature of this game is that you can choose to work for a full 10 minuites, you can't be stopped for bad driveing or not picking up fares!
