Searching for something Diablo IIýesque

I have been searching for something Diablo II-esque for my PS2 for a couple of years now. (I really with that they would release Diablo II for PS2, or, even better, Diablo III Online.) The editorial description of this caught my eye. And, at [the price], what did I have to lose...? I haven't had that much time with it, as I can't seem to get Grand Theft Auto: Vice City out of my PS2, but what little time I have had makes me very happy. I am very excited to see where this goes, and then to play again with the other two characters (I started the game with the Dwarf). The graphics and play action seem very good. I don't particularly care for the cut-scenes, but I can certainly live with it as long as I get to hack-and-slash later.
Great Game And Very Addictive!

This game is a visual treat and its very fun to play. I played through by myself and now Im playing with a friend. Both ways are very enjoyable. There is a storyline and the NPC's are done very well. The animations and spell effects look great on the Play Station 2. Wait till you see the water effects in the game. The best thing is that they are making a sequel that will be twice as big as this one. If you enjoy a good hack and slash with some RPG elements, then buy this fun game.

I love this game. The graphics are excelent and the controls are very easy. The graphics and plot were great. The only thing(not big still one of the best games) is that the music sometimes is louder than what the person is saying in the movies. So heres the deal buy this game its great.

To start - if your expecting the game to play like the PC version of Baldur's Gate, then you will be way off the mark. When it started I was disapointed - but that quickly changed. What the game lacks in RPG depth, it makes up for in speed, fun and pure gameplay. 2 minutes into the game I was hooked, and quickly spent the rest of the night playing this game. It's mostly hack and slash type gaming, but the graphics, sounds and suroundings are just awesome. There are interactions with other characters, but it's pretty one dimensional - so don't expect a lot of roll playing value here.
I'm rating this as a 5 star, because it's just pure fun, and a great game that my girlfriend enjoys playing with me - what more could I ask for?
Best RPG on PS2

This is the best RPG I've played on PS2 (and yes I've played Final Fantasy X). The graphics are excellent and the control is very good - it even uses the analog buttons - ie. for the archer if you barely touch the button a line comes up to aim and then if you push the button all the way in you fire. It takes some getting used to but its a great feature. The surround sound is awesome (not 5.1 but still very good) and the graphics are the best I've seen. The only shortcoming is the game is a little short.
An Excellent RPG

I only like to highlight keypoints when writing a review, for the simple reason of keeping it short and to the point. I really enjoyed this game from start to finish. Voice-overs are great. Graphics represent what the PS2 is capable of. Of special notice are the water effects. Simply second to none. Sound & effects will no doubt immmerse you in the world. Story is good. Weapons & items are a bit on the limited side, in terms of quantiny. Only negative aspect is the length. You'll be having so much fun, it's over before you know it.

If you like hack & slash dungeon crawling games like Diablo, then you'll like this game. It is the first game of this style for the Playstation 2.
In this game, you play as one of three characters. You will be given quests by other people and creatures. These quests take you thru dungeons, sewers, caves, castles, woods, and mountain paths and usually involve killing a boss enemy or finding specific objects. Along the way, you must kill (or run from) enemies while picking up items (dropped by enemies, found in treasure chests, barrels, etc.) that may be useful to you or that may be sold. Fighting is in real-time (not turn-based as in Final Fantasy). As you complete quests and kill enemies, you gain experience. This experience allows you the change your character's attributes and learn new skills/spells. There are numerous types of weapons and armor to be bought or found during the game. As the enemies in the game get tougher, your experience and improved weapons/armor allow you to still put up a good fight.
The graphics and audio are amazing. The movement of water as you walk thru it and the movement of the leaves on trees as the wind blows shows the level of graphic detail that they gave the game. Also, the detail on many of the creatures in the game is outstanding. Voices and music are great. As you walk thru the woods, you hear coyotes howling in the distance. As you walk on the mountain path, you hear chunks of ice falling in the distance. Controls are simple and intuitive. Every button on the controller may be used during a game, but you'll find yourself using them like a pro in just a matter of minutes. I really like that fact that my character can change between a melee weapon (such as a sword) and a range weapon (such as a bow) during battle with the simple push of a button.
Gameplay is great and is almost identical to that of Diablo II. Unfortunately, the game is too short. Your saved games tell you how long you've been playing. On the Easy difficulty setting, I completed the game in about 12 hours. However, if you enjoy the game, you'll probably want to play each of the three characters and take at least one of your characters thru the three difficultly levels. Completing the game opens up something called the gauntlet where you have 15 minutes and one life to defeat all the various types of creatures (not too easy). Completing the game also opens up an Extreme difficulty level. Completing the game on the Extreme level opens up a fourth character. Playing a two player game is also a blast. It's just like the one player game, but allows two players to work cooperatively.
Don't let the shortness of the game keep you from trying it. I feel that this is one the best games for the Playstation 2 right now (just a little better than Final Fantasy X).
