Fun Co-op, but buggy gameplay.

Great fun with a friend, but we experienced some fatal programming errors (resulting in the need for restart of the entire game).

very pleasing

from the start you get in a mission to warm you up for whats to come. I like this game for the fact its a co-op rpg game. You never really know whats around the corner so you're always on your toes.

One of the best to ever come out for PS2...

One of the best to ever come out for PS2 or any system for that matter. The gameplay and graphics are above most games coming out now for the PS2. If your into action RPG's like myself, this is the grand-daddy of them all for a console. What would have made "BG:DA" perfect would have been the ability to custom make a character, and making the game longer would have helped as well. The game is a perfect balance being not too complex nor being too simplistic. BG:DA 2 and Champions of Norrath 1&2 doesn't come close to being as good as this game. I'm still hoping one day someone will make another game like this one with more areas, longer game play, and custom characters. Until then, I'll just go back and play Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, from time to time like I still do to this very day. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is in my top 3 favorite games of all time.

Don't believe the nay sayers, it's great!

This may be mindless game play to some, but it's mindless game play at it's best! I didn't see the point in writing a review, but after reading some of the gripes, I had to chime in.
1. The game isn't much of an RPG- who cares... you get to run around and kill people. The action cuts right to the chase, and there are always enemies coming at you. I don't see how that can get boring.
2. The game is repetetive, hack and slash... Not entirely true. The enemies change, and battles get harder or more intense. And the enemies come at you differently, with several traps waiting around the corner. I don't see how that's repetetive.
3. No time to build your character... this is true to a certain extent. However, if you play the game again, you get to keep your character and build onto experience points they already have. And trust me... those spells and powers look mighty grand at level 70. Some of those enemies won't have time to chase you around anymore. That's something to look forward to. Besides, why buy a game if you can't play it several times? Personally, I think it's great to have a game that you can sit down for an hour, and actually feel like you've played, rather than walked around and talked to people and bought supplies.

major pain

I have purchased this game twice and have run into the same glitch in the middle. It starts off really fun, gets you hooked then freezes right in the middle. I know it's an old game but come on. Buyers beware

Pros: great grapics, great sound, fun to play, simple to learn.
a true classic game for the PS2 in Diablo Fashion
Cons: only one i can even think of is the fact that if you play this you WILL want part 2 which is a little costly but if you buy or own this be sure to buy Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance 2 (PS2)
its an adventure spanning 3 chapters (yes that may seem short but the game can take from 10 hours to several days to beat depending on if you play little here and there or blow through it all at once) but honestly i used to own this and had regretted selling it now i have it for the 3rd time and BG DA2 and that makes this worth it especally the fact that you can play as drizzt and also can IMPORT your character into PART 2 making replay value high! its even more fun with a friend *except the platforms that you must jump across in the first chapter doing this 2 player can be annoyingly difficult just have your friend take a dive off the side there till you get through it its the Only Hard Part) but the battles are hack n slash diablo esque style fights andand the bosses *last one made quite an impresion* are awesome and well voiced by the talented voice actors 5 star all the way and worth every penny especally if you liked Champions of Norrath or Champions at Arms also sweet games.

this is one of the better PS2 games i've played.. the story, dialog and how you go into the sewer is cool. the action is enjoyable. the graphics are good. what i don't like is 1. aiming arrows is too difficult in my opinion, making it not as fun to play an archer and 2. it gets kinda repetitive.

Decent but below potential

I expected much more. I played this just after Summoner2. The graphics in Baldur's gate were much less attractive, and the product felt a little canned due to the lack of choices in the game. The zoom-in map feature was good, but it was annoying that it couldn't be panned. The storyline was fine. Overall a mediocre experience.

I Thought the game flowed very well from level to level. You were able to develop your character as well as buy things of help with your quest.

The game that reintroduced me to games. Love it!

When I was a kid I loved Wonder Boy on my Sega Genesis. But then I got out of video games completely. But then The Boyfriend suggested that we play together, and he said that if I liked Wonder Boy, I'd probably like Gauntlet and Baldur's Gate. We played Gauntlet first, and then this - what a delight! The graphics are amazing, the music is sublime, and the plot and storyline are both really interesting. It seems like, according to the reviews, the folks who played this on the pc are disappointed in it. Maybe I would have been, too, but since I never played it on a computer I guess ignorance is bliss, because I loved this game.

I liked the strategy and having to think about what weapons to use on each type of enemy. I've played the second one as well, which has even more customizations and chances to create weapons, which is great. It's especially fun to play this game with someone - I think I might have been bored sometimes playing it by myself.

Overall, it's a great game, though, especially for people new to games.
