Put Simply: The Best Experience Hands Down

Metal Gear Solid has all of the elements of a great thriller film. A twisting plot, incredible voice acting and directing, and interesting characters.
From the very beginning gameplay is bliss. The control is spot-on. Simple to learn, fun to play. The Dual Shock controller is taken full advantage of as well. (Wait until you feel the helicopter taking off, and then wait for Psycho Mantis to prove to you he can make objects move.)
The game eases you into it, and gives you a solid twelve to fifteen hours of gameplay the first time through. But you won't want it to end. I guarantee it. If you haven't bought it already, buy it now. This game would be a bargain at $100.

2nd favorite game of all time

I saw the word greatest hits and I was ashamed. Why do they always ruin every game box with that stupid green bar on the left telling people its a greatest hits. Mabye they will make more money, wrong...

Anyways, the actual game is my 2nd favorite of all time. Not easy to get onto my list but this game does it. I was playing Metal Gear Solid 2 the other day and realized that it can never compare with what this game has achieved.

You are Snake, the operative who must go in a nuclear testing facility held by terrorists. Snake goes in by stealth, and must fight numerous villians. All the villians in this game are extremely well done with voice acting and great personalitys. I can't find big complaints at all with the game.

The game is so good that they are making the remake for Game Cube, and possibly other systems. Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes. Anyways, the game has music that probably for me basically tops final fantasy 7, just because it is original and fits the mood perfectly. Every character has perfect voice and personalitys, so the voice acting never gets old. I've played the game like 8 times, and I loved it every minute.

The bad point is the backtracking, but it is really short and is always for a reason. You backtrack usually with a goal in mind. And you will usually backtrack like a mofo on halloween. Meaning really fast to get your candy. And every time you do it(like 3 times in the game) you will get to listen to juicy codec calls that unravel more story bits and liven it up.

I love calling Cambell(who is a great character) on the codec to see what he has to say. It always seems to be different and intellectual. He can also give you hints, and the other characters on your codec play major roles.

The best part about this game is the story. Honestly, RPG's have the best storys, but this game can top almost any rpg in story. We learn about 2 snakes, and how they believe things. Liquid Snake.... he talks about being a flawed snake and such, and whenever he talks it's always interesting to the point where I want to hear it every game.

With story comes philosophy. This isn't the matrix where we have a man called morpheous talk about philosophy in some crazy underground rave. This is Solid Snake and others being honest. Solid Snake has some of the best views on life. He's like a rebel without a cause. His lines are thought provoking and are probably things that someone could base their life off of. Live life is probably the best message he tells and can give, and this philosophy is rare in video games today.

The fighting is cool, and bosses offer challenges and fun. I would reccomend this game to anyone. You will get your moneys worth from this game, and I hope you enjoy it. But one more thing, lets not forget what you must do. Buy the game for playstation not computer. On computer they like changed the skins around or so ive seen in screenshots. Solid Snake looks alot younger, and alot less vigilante like and stuff. Get it on playstation to truly expierience it.

Graphics,8 out of 10:The graphics are great, snowy enviroments, the works. The faces in cutscenes could be better with the vampire-like eyes, but its still a great game

Story,10:This story is just...great!.Now leave me alone!

Controlling,8:The controlling could be alittle tricky at first,I reccomend trying some VR missions first.

Replay Value:Once you get through this game, you'll never wanna stop!

Well, generally I do not get into these type of game but since I have played MGS I love it. All the levels are chanlleging even if you have a game shark trust me, once you start playing this game it is hard to put it down, I had to force myself to put it down so i wouldn't fry my brain trying to figure out what to do next, but over all this game is the best VR game I have played.

WOW WOW WOW

This is the best game ever to be invented on the playstation console. Metal Gear Solid is noticed most for its unbelievable storyline. The storyline is so good it could be a box office hit movie. You play and play and in the end your suprised and you are amazed on how good the game is and you play it again.

I could play this game over and over and over. The gameplay is also excellent, and if your ever in trouble you can use the codec- a device put in by the makers to help you if your ever in trouble by making you able to talk to people in the game that are in contact with you. The graphics are awesome and the gameplay is so fun youll play the virtual reality training sessions just to have fun.

If you own playstation then you have to own Metal Gear Solid, I dont need to explain in a review why but i did but all you have to do is get this game and you will know this is the best game made.

Hey, if you like spy games and espionage, you have to try this game. I rented it once thinking,"Aw,what the heck, let's try this." I reterned it thinking," Man, I wanna buy that someday." Well, I bought it and after weeks of play and revealing new things,I still havn't beaten the full game. I have only beaten it on easy and normal modes using the same game file. (get the game and you'll know what I mean.) The game also has VR missions, I'll let you figure the stuff on that out yourself. The game is a classic drama/action/adventure. There are so far 2 endings that I have done and both were very sad. I won't ruine it for you though. (Hint-During the torture scene, you can either submit or not. If you submit, you will start with stealth camo if you use the same file. If you don't submit, you get the bandana which alows inf. ammo on any weapon. Submiting also leads to the saddest ending.)I have so much I could tell you about the game, but overall, somewhere in between the C-4's you blow people up with and the sneaking around, you realize that this is the best game ever made for the PS1 and posibly any other system. MGS2-Sons of Liberty is pretty cool too, but this review is for MGS1,so I won't ruine anything about MGS2. One drawback is that you only start with scope and cigs. No weps. No nothin'. Happy Hunting!!

Metal Gear Solid is the greatest game EVER!!!

Alaska, Shadow Moses Island, four years ago.A group of terrorists led by a man calling himself 'Liquid Snake' has hijacked several nuclear warheads, and the Metal Gear Rex, a machine with enough firepower to fire a warhead to anywhere in the world. They are threatening to fire some warheads, unless they are given a Billion Dollars, and the remains of Big Boss, the greatest soldier to ever have lived.
This game has one of the best stories(this story is much better than the story of MGS2)I have ever played and it`s characters are so believable and realistic, you`d think that you were there on Shadow Moses Island infiltrating the base.
You play as Solid Snake, a retired soldier from a mercenary group called Foxhound(who was`nt happy by being dragged from his home by armed guards by his old colonel because Snake did`nt want to do the mission).
This game has everyhing, Dramatic scenes, a romance, a battle with an invisible ninja, an electrical torture scene, a gun-toting Texan pistol fanatic, a wussy scientist who aids you along the mission, extremely dramatic battles with an M1 tank, a Hind D Helicopter, Metal Gear Rex itself, and a fight to the death with Snake`s own brother.
It also features the unbelievably cool 'Codec', in which you can call up your allies anytime for advice, or info on what to do next.
This truly is the greatest game ever made, you will love the frozen Alaska location and there are also several cool things like how if surveillance cameras spot you they set off alarms, and you can go up behind guards and break their necks,or drag them around, or knock them out, and there are several scenes where you have to crawl through ventilation ducts.
This game has an amazing armoury, from a mere stun grenade to a massive Stinger launcher, the range includes assault rifles, mines, C4`s, Chaff grenades(which make all electric equipment go bust), Nikitas(remote controlled missiles), and PSG1 sniper rifles. You also use Rations, which make your health go up, and night vision goggles and thermal goggles.
An incredibly cool and dramatic game, this game uses stealth and sneaking, instead of just rushing in, killing everyone, and blowing the place up(like Duke Nukem or something), the games bosses are a great challenge, there is a sniper duel, a fight with an Alaskan muscleman with a big machine gun, a battle with a psychic maniac, and several large skirmishes in very difficult places(its a great challenge).
Metal Gear Solid, best game, best characters, most realistic, a really brilliant game.

I absolutely fell in love with this game when I first played. The story can get a little confusing at times, but thats no reason not to get this game. This game uses stealth, which really makes it fun for a number of reasons. The graphics in this game are a little cliche, but then again, it came out in 99 and its for PS1, come on. Only problem, it's way too short. If there would have been say, another 4 or 5 hours added to the game, I would have given this game a 5. But due to its lack of lenght, I give it a 4...out of 5

Metal Gear Solid (1998)

Everybody has their favourite game. It could be there favourite because it is so unbelievably addictive and extremely entertaining. It could be because it is stuffed full of action. Games like these are masterpieces, games that everybody enjoys, popular, well-known, best-selling games that people still play today. It is a great pleasure to play these kind of games - such a great pleasure!
My favourite game was released in 1998. If I'm correct, my brother got it as a gift and he would play on it for hours. I would sit beside him and watch him play it. I would just sit there watching somebody else play the games for HOURS. When my brother completed it, I even had a little go, because I was very young, so I must have died after 10 seconds. And not long after, my brother was trying to complete it again, he loved it so much. I used to love watching him play it. Even my sister would love watching him play it.
I've grown older, and I still have memories of watching my brother play the game. It feels like it was only yesterday. The game was fantastic - FANTASTIC!
Of course, my favourite game which I have been writing about is Konami's METAL GEAR SOLID. Followed by sequels and a remake, the game is still popular today. When I'd look in Playstation magazines back in the day, the writer would give the game 10/10 and describe it as the best Playstation game ever! I can't say I disagree.
Plots usually don't matter with games. The plot can be awful, but as long as it is alot of fun, I can enjoy it. However, the plot of METAL GEAR SOLID is so excellent, it adds to the fun. Terrorists have threatened the United States with a nuclear weapon called Metal Gear Rex. Solid Snake, a retired soldier from an elite government team (Foxhound) is given two missions by Colonel Roy Campbell: he must rescue the DARPA chief and the President of ArmsTech Inc, who are being held as hostages, and make sure that Metal Gear Rex doesn't kill thousands of people. I don't know about you, but I think that is a great, original plot.
The game is difficult in places, so it needs some skill ad thinking ideas. Solid Snake, the main character, is able to use stealth. You can sneak up behind guards, break their necks and drag them away. You can knock on walls and make guards follow the sound. However, be careful if your outside in the snow. The guards follow your footprints!
You can use many weapons. You have many guns and grenades, and although they are not weapons, you begin the game with a pair of binoculars and a pack of cigarettes (!)
There are some brilliant bosses in the game, some of them hard to beat. There is Psycho Mantis, who can read your mind unless you enter a Memory Card in the Playstation, Sniper Wolf, the deadly female sniper, Lecoy Octopus, the speedy Master of Disguise, Vulcan Raven, a large, armed man, Revolver Ocelot, the talented gunfighter, and the leader, Liquid Snake.
Now, the graphics. I don't really care about the graphics in a game, but alot of people do, so I talk about it in my reviews. The graphics in METAL GEAR SOLID are fair. There is a strong lack of detail, especially on character's faces, but other than that, it's good.
So, I obviously love METAL GEAR SOLID. Others may hate it, although I can't imagine why, but of course, everybody's different. We all have different tastes. Still, I recommend this very good game, METAL GEAR SOLID, to anyone.

Gameplay: 5/5
Graphics: 2/5
Overrall: 5/5
