Well this is one game that I love playing and I always will. This game has it all, everything you would expect in a movie. Im talking about true military action which features, VR training, special weapons, and ofcourse the hero and the villains.
You are Solid Snake, and your mission is to find and eliminate the nuclear war head 'Meatl Gear Rex'. But beware, expect challenges through out your mission, be preared for antthing. Only you have been chosen to attempt this mission and you know you can do it. Prepare yourself for stealth action like you have never seen it before, and experience the life of a genetically born soldier.
This game is the Shiz-net

This game was the best PS game I ever spent money on. I bought this game thinking it was going to be your basic James Bond like game. The first day I played for 4 hours straight, and only got 3/4 of the way through the first disk. After a while I got where I could beat both disk in 4 1/2 hours. If you want the BEST GAME EVER this is the one to buy.
One of the greatsest video games ever made!!

I am sorry but the game is not that good. I concept is great but the game play could have been better. The graphics are great for a play Station and that seems to be more important than game play. Aiming is awful. You only have up, down or straight. I would like it better if it had auto aiming. Unless you are playing a first person shooter aiming should be auto. The story is boring, I do not mine long stories but the Japanese makers just did not get the American culture right in this game. The story is silly. Why would a agent have a love affair during the middle of a mission. I hated having to listen to all that nonsense when i want to shoot people. Really, it was not important to the story. I would have loved this game if the game play was different.

I heard that this game would be the one to make people realise that the Playstation is the ultimate force in the console age! With its wonderful graphics and great gameplay.
I didn't find this at all! The gameplay true is good but not awesome by any means! The camera really lets this game down. We get a fixed POV while snake moves around. But the thing is control isn't easy to grasp at first, snake moves around far too easily. You get the feeling that they set the controller sensitivity too high!
My applause goes out to this game in numerous sections. First sniper mode. The crosshair fills the screen and you begin to aim. Although I did notice that no matter whereyou shot a guard with this weapon they always got shot in the neck! Weird that. Still that is only a minor fault. I also think the torture section is great! The idea of repeatedly bashing your pad to resist is great. (this experience is heightened if you hold down triangle and try to do this section in first person view).
However there are far too many faults! First the games difficulty is too low! I only found challenge on the extreme difficulty. Secondly the guards are dumb! If you knock on the wall they always say "huh? What was that noise?" and investigate. Even dafter is the way that if you hide in a cardboard box off their set path they walk up to it and say "huh? What's that box?" Before beginning to walk the same path they always do! Ludicrous! Also there are far too many movies! They seem to have more of these than time playing the game! (not good by the way!)
While it is flawed it still plays well, but just not well enough!

The Metal Gear Solid series are indeed one of the best video-games series available-not THE best, but one of the best-with a revenue(is that the right word?) of selling 17,000,000 of all the MGS games in the series which comes fourth from THE BEST selling series which indeed is "Super Mario" followed by GTA and so on.Here are the Metal Gear games in timeline order.
Metal Gear Solid 3:Snake Eater/Subsistence
Being set in 1964,MGS3 takes place first despite being the latest MG game out-RELEASED 2004,and in Europe early 2005.In my opinion is the BEST MG game yet.
Metal Gear 1:
MG1 was the first game in all the Metal Gear games it is set about 31 years after the events of MGS3(1995) despite actually being released 16 years before MGS3.
Metal Gear 2:Solid Snake:
Takes place 4 years after MG1 and released in 1990 in Japan only.
This game sees the collapse of Big Boss-Or do we? well we still got more MGS games to come and Big Boss was in the early artwork of MGS4:Guns Of the Patriots.
Metal Gear SOLID:
Introduction to the MG SOLID series and brought stealth action to the 3D face on PS1.One of the best selling games on PS1.Released in 1998.Also was remade for GameCube in 2003 with stuff from MGS2 in it,was called MGS:The Twin Snakes.
Metal Gear Solid 2:Sons Of Liberty/Substance.
A remarkable title that came-out in 2001,and 2002 for EUR,that was later ported to XBox as "Substance" but Substance was also on PS2 aswell.ppl were dissapointed with Raiden as Main controllable character who was mimicked in MGS3 as "Mjr. Ivan Raikov" who was in love with the colonel(who was MALE!).
Metal Gear Solid 4:Guns Of The Patriots.
Continuing from MGS2 and going to be released for PS3 in late 2006 or early/mid 2007.Going to add NUMEROUS additions like gun-addons,New stealth etc.
There maybe more MG games to comeout also there are sidestories to the main MG games:
Metal Gear:Snakes Revenge!(released for SNES)
Metal Gear:Ghost bable/Metal Gear Solid(for GB:Color)
Metal Gear AC!D released for PSP.
Metal Gear AC!D 2 released for PSP.
Currently i own MGS:The Twin Snakes,MGS2:Sons Of Liberty and MGS3:Snake Eater,i will own MGS4:GOTP but not for a while as i have to wait for PS3 and save up money for the console and game.
in order i will probably like `em.
MGS4
MGS3
MGS2
MGS:TTS.
Bye.

Can you swim thru sub-zero temperatures, sneak up on guards without a sound and perform fatal moves, intercept data before the terrorists do, move in shadows, avoid surveillance, kill with your bear hands, survive cybernetic ninjas, immobilize tanks,a chopper, a nuclear weapon, stop a madman, and get the girl? Metal Gear Solid takes honors as THE game to play on playstation, putting the foot to the floor after you emerge from Alaskan waters unarmed to save the world from modern day nuclear perdition, not stopping till everythings blown up and near noone's left to be trusted. By the end of a John Woo-esque espionage hair raiser...see if the thought of the world class spy-biz doesn,t give your invulnerable skin a little tingle, eh?

To say this game is perfect would be an overstatement. There are some games however that make you take a step back and say, "How many different ways can I kill one guy taking a leak?"...and this one gives you the answer. The game itself accomplishes anything and everything it tries to. It is enjoyable, challenging and has GREAT replay value, but most of all it's FUN. In some games the little flaws only make the game more endearing and this is one of those. Sure, the game would be more realistic if the guards could see more than 5 yards in front of them in a cone shape and if they detect an intruder that they see...they probably wouldn't return to their positions if they couldn't find him but they make the game what it is and they make it fun. This game answers such questions as, "How does a guard react to seeing a Nikita Missle flying in the air directly behind him while he is zipping up." And "How does a guard react to seeing a sneezing cardboard box moving along the floor next to him." And that's just the beginning.

One day i was reading on my favorite videogames website how good metal gear solid was and blah blah blah. So i rented it, and kept it for over a month because i couldnt beat the torture scene, and i didn't want to let meryl die. The character development is THAT good. The game also has a great feel to it with mixed action and stealth elements. The music is also great This game is the best game ever created, only the mighty final fantasy 8 comes close.
