This game kicks @$$ . The graphics are sweet . The sound is awesome . The acting is great with the guy who played Kaneda in the anime Akira. Snake is a tough guy on the outside but Meryl softens him up. Parents: A very intense torture scene, a very intense scene where Meryl is shot and begs Snake to put her out of her misery. A great buy.

The only perfect game

A true gamer looks at a game in all aspects to tell if the game is good or not. The best part about Metal Gear is that it has a little bit of everything. It has action, drama, a little comedy, and sadness. Most games promote violence as a great thing. I myself play violent games but know that real life violence is no laughing matter. This game talks about a hero whos profession is killing. But the result of this is that he has mental scars and suffers from Post tramatic Stress disorder (PTSD) and can not find anyway to live his life any other way than mission to mission. No game has produced a character like Solid Snake. You can spend a life time analizing him and you will always find something new. The creater of this game Hideo Kojima knows how to make a game. The point of all this is that Metal Gear is the greatest game ever made. Many people have said that about other games, but this is the only time where saying those words mean something. I loved this game and have beaten it many times. Buy this game! And when the the sequel comes out in 2001, buy that too. I want to share this game with everyone I know. It's that good.

Although this isn't the absolute worst game I have ever played, it is certainly NOT the best game, which is why I gave it one star. I am completely amazed that out of ninety-eight reviews, it's still averaging five stars, so I'm trying to throw that curve off as much as I can. I want to offer a contrasting opinion, so that anyone interested in the game won't be sold hook, line, and sinker by these other reviews. The storyline is about as cheesy as it gets, and the dialogue is fairly stupid. But even I admit that those aren't the most important parts of a game. The camera angle is awkward, and the control just doesn't flow as well as many other high quality games. The graphics are by no means top of the line. I was attracted to this game because of its focus on stealth--but if you want a good stealth game, play the Tenchu games. If you want a good action game that makes use of stealth, try Fear Effect. Compared to these games, and others like the Tomb Raiders, this game is very, very weak. I'm not saying the other reviewers are wrong for having their own opinions, but I wanted potential buyers to be wary.

OK, this is my first video game review, so bear with me folks. Metal Gear Solid is THE flawless game. It's perfect. Superb. Excellent. Absolutely NO flaws. The gameplay is the most realistic that I have ever seen. Everything is proportionate, the weapons are evenly distributed and powerful, the guards have good vision but not to the point where they catch your every move, and the level of difficulty is right on target. The graphics are amazing as well, distorting as tension mounts (for example the DARPA Chief's death). You can feel the action mounting even more with a rumbling controller, but don't go out and buy one just for this game. As you all know, this is a game based on stealth, unlike Syphon Filter per say. You have to have tactical skills to do everything the game orders you to do. Objectives range from going through an area without being caught, to finding other characters, some in disguise, in the specific level, or by defeating a boss or sub-boss. One of the hardest tasks is passing Ocelot's torture. Talk about button mashing! Your thumbs will be aching after this segment of the game (by the way, when Ocelot says he will know if you have rapid-fire on, HE'S BLUFFING! Just thought I'd share). You all know the story is amazing. Twists and turns are around every corner, leaving you stunned, but not the the point where you're in the dark. The VR missions extra is a real help to those just beginning the game. It teaches essential moves needed to survive the game. It sure helped me. All in all, this game is the BEST game for the Playstation gaming console. Go take your [money] and go spend it on this wonderful game.

As Solid Snake, you must sneak into a Nuclear Missle Disposal Complex on an island near Alaska, Terrorists have taken over and claim to have access to nuclear weapons. Your mission is to free the hostages and see whether or not the terrorists can launch nukes. Sound easy! Well...all is not as it seems. This game combines challeging gameplay with a deep story and excellent voice acting. The game is action packed and the story twists and turns leading to the final climactic battle between Solid Snake and his evil twin brother, who has manned the terrible weapon Metal Gear, a giant battle robot. Add to this some of the best graphics available to the Playstation, and you have a near perfect game.

For the money, it's an excellent ride

I remember playing Metal Gear on my Nintendo. This game takes the thrill of being a one-man infiltration unit captured so well in the original and multiplies it several times over with its excellent graphics (for its release date) and it's captivating cut scenes. It is truly an exceptional blend of enjoyable gameplay and engrossing cinematics. I went through Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions first, so I was all brushed up to play this game. Maybe a good thing, but MGS only lasted for 11 hours of gameplay for me. That's its ONE downfall - too short. How long 'till the sequal?

Simply the best

Metal Gear Solid is the best game i've ever played and is in my opinion the best game of all time. I bought this game after my friends suggested it to me because he raved about it day and night, I can't blame him. The realistic game play and Video just blew me away. I beat this game in a week under easy because i barely ever slept and failed all of my tests that week. Metal Gear Solid is the yard stick to which I measure any other game. Oh and if you love this game as much as I did, you'll probably love Syphon Filter as well.

Metal Gear Solid is by far the best game I ever played!

Metal Gear Solid is a great challenging game. I could play it again and again and I will never get bored. The first day I got it I was up till 3 o'clock in the morning playing it. The only problem with this game is that it is almost impossible to beat without a stratedgy guide. But it is worth paying the extra 15 bucks to play this game. Metal Gear Solid is without a doubt the best game ever created.
