Metal Gear Solid is one of my favorite games ever. I saw it on a demo disc and thought it looked pretty fun. I then bought the full game and was blown away. The controls are easy when you get used it, and you can pull off a lot of stunts with the right amount of practice. The video sequences were fun to watch, but the only downside is that the characters only have slits for eyes.

Another cool thing is if you have the Analog control, it vibrates when you fire guns and also does so with other points in the game. The storyline is gripping, and the twists make this game an all time favorite for me.

Just buy it. You will not be disappointed. Don't start playing it late at night or you will find the sun coming up while your trying to sneak past one last guard.

MGS is not an ordinary game! it has something about it, when you play the game you get more and more into Solid snake's personality and live his role. Its simply awesome and I wish they would turn it into a movie!

After eight years without a new Metal Gear game, this franchise got it's third entry with Metal Gear Solid. The graphics have not aged well at all. Textures are very pixellated, animation is very jerky, and the framerate can get rather slow at times. The audio, however, has lots of great dialogue, combined with a catchy musical score.

The gameplay is based around stealth. You are Solid Snake, a spy working for a secret agency whose objective is to stop a device called Metal Gear, and save a couple of old guys. The story is deeper than that, of course, but in a nutshell, that's it. The controls, while laid out well, can be very unresponsive at times. The game itself is very fun (sneaking around to either get past or silently eliminate enemies), but is very easy to complete, and take away all of the cinematics and dialogue (12 hours of it all!), and you've got just three hours of gameplay.

Metal Gear Solid hasn't aged well at all, but is still very fun and happens to be a nice collector's piece for fans of the series. But should you start here? No, grab a GameCube and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (a next-gen remake of this) instead, then grab Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance on the PS2 or the Xbox.

Metal Gear Solid one of the most ever overrated and hyped game ever.You play as snake who walks like he needs to go to the bathroom trying to use stealth. It's easy just try to watch the radars and memorize their paths and walk right by them . Snake is a cheetah compared to the genomes . And when you are spotted run around for 20 seconds and they'll get tired . THis game is short too . The Vr trainiing mode is actually very good .

So I wasn't the first person to review this game. But after seeing all the glowing testimonials, I thought I'd buy it and check it out- after all, I enjoy good action games. Boy, was I sorely disappointed!!

Where do I begin? The graphics are awful. Not the worst for a game like this, but between the pixellation, the dim lighting, and sudden changes in camera angle as the character moves, it's hard to tell what's going half the time. The camera shifts make control difficult too, as your POV changes in different situations (against a wall, through a tunnel, etc). And although the variety of weapons is interesting, their control is mediocre at best.

My biggest gripe though, is the gameplay. There's not enough of it! For every minute or two of actual PLAY, there's a 5-minute movie laying out more of this intricate plot, or another extended animation to show the action. Every hour spent playing is about 40 minutes of watching these endless video clips! Yes you can click through them (missing most of the intricate plot), but then you miss your next assignment as well. These game designers should make movies instead, because they seem more interested in telling stories than good game play.

mgs it in fact an original that will never be beatin. A game that won countless awards for its acheivement. 2 SUX. 1 was infaticly one of the most original games and greatest game ever made. it has every thing. Language,violence,drama,suspence( and alot of it!) and just about every thing. I wont xplain the story cause by the time u read all of the reviews ull know. i aught the game when it first came out so ita a little to late to review this game no. but resat a shure.......METAL GEAR SOLID IS THE GREATEST ADVENTURE GAME EVER MADE WICH WILL NEVER BE BEATIN! I LOVE THE BATTLE BETWEEN SNAKE AND HIN D!..... I CANT WAIT TILL TWIN SNAKES COMES OUT!! GO GET IT!! later........

I play it almost every day!!! I love the single player and VR training too its so fun! everyone with a psone should buy this game!

It's a cinematic experience of great glory. The graphics hold up today (despite what some foolish naysayers on here say) and the gameplay is, per Hideo Kojima's standard, brilliant. Plus, it doesn't have an absolutely horrible storyline like MGS2. In fact, it has one of the single deepest and most engrossing storylines ever.

Buy this. Not the new Gamecube remake. This.
