The main problem with this game is it trys to make a point. Its target audience doesnt want to hear about snakes love life or how meryl always wanted to be a soldier, (boo hoo) We want to Kill, Maim and Destroy. Every boss that has tried to shoot snake, as soon as he shoots them they start whining about their horrible past or their family. WHO ON EARTH CARES. Another bad point is there are no great cinema clips, they all use the in game graphics. I read all these great reveiws saying its just like a movie and I was sorely disapointed. It got 2 stars because if you press your buttons and fastforward the cinema clips, you can at least pretend that snake is a tough-guy.
It's tough.... But it's GREAT

If you are anything like me, MGS will have you dead by the time you are around the first corner. But it's so interesting, I really wanted to see around that corner. SO I worked and worked, only to be shot at the next curve. So I started over and kept going. I still haven't gotten close to beating it, but I still enjoy making it to thet next turn in the road. It's a great game.
Greatest Game EVER

If you don't give this game five stars, go check yourself into a group home, 'cause you're crazy. I have only three faults for the game. 1.)The game was too short. 2.)I end up comparing games like Syphon Filter to MGS and they always come up short. 3.)It has been too long since MGS creators have released a new game.(VR missions don't count!)
Really good!

When I first beat this game, I was in awe. The graphics were state of the art in 1998, but I played this game soon after playing Soul Calibur, so I can't really comment on them. Everything else, though... I was spellbound. The story, the voice acting, the stealthy gameplay, the tense boss fights. It rocked. Recently, though, I've thought about it. The story's really cheesy, and is often too confusing. Is the gameplay really that good? Yeah, I guess. A game about sneaking around killing in silence is fun. Once. The boss battles are terrific and old school. No problems there. See, it's an all-around good game. It's just not the best game on Playstation. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is. If you're looking for stealth, I reccomend Tenchu or Perfect Dark. Good luck with your gaming!

I've read several reviews that claimed that Metal Gear Solid
remains to be the better game, comparing to the newly released
sequal on the PS2. Having been extremely impressed by MGS2, I
was curious to find out just how great could the parent game be.
Overall, I thought MGS was a competent game, but its sequal is
just plain better (I'm disregarding the graphics improvement).
The single biggest irritation of MGS is its clunky script.
Every speech is preachy and melodramatic. The story runs like
a morality tale, pounding its central message ad nauseam. I
also found the voice acting grating, especially Mei Ling's
ridiculous "Chinese" accent.
The gameplay is good though. There are some challenging boss
fights and some cute puzzle elements. A minor gripe is that
the control is not as flexible as MGS2. In MGS2, you have
finer control of how to aim your gun; here, you pretty much
have to count on the auto-aim which isn't always reliable.
Finally, a word about the graphics. Certainly it wouldn't be
fair to compare MGS to MGS2, but it is fair to compare MGS to
other PSX games such as the later Final Fantasy series. I
thought the graphics was pretty good but not great. The
resolution seemed low, and the rendering of more difficult
elements like water was unconvincing.
The bottom line: it's definitely a game worth getting
(especially given its bargain greatest-hits price). If you
like stealth espionage game, you'll have a good time; but you
might want to get a pillow or something so that you can pretend
it's the script writer and throttle it during those long, awful
cut-scenes.

I came to Amazon to buy a "Sim" game, when I got sucked in by people saying this was the "best game", so I bought it instead. Now I wish I hadn't. It's not even as good as "Resident Evil".Rent MGS and then buy Command & Conquer! You'll be glad you did!

Metal Gear Solid is my absolute favorite Playstation game. It is like an interactive movie that draws you in full of action, suspence, and a great story to follow. The game play is awesome the way you have to sneak around and hide behind corners and under cardboard boxes and so on. The weopons are very cool and Snake has a great sense of humor. You can not beat this price either. You will get your money's worth ten times over. This game is so addictive. Buy it, you will be happy.
This game is close to PERFECT

This game is outstanding! The levels are challeging and fun. But the one thing that made me call this game close to perfect was that the guards do stupid things. I know that sounds like a worthless reason. But that little reason makes some levels just a breeze, and that can make gamers bored while playing the game. Now I know some of you out there might like games that are easy, but the easier a game the faster you beat it and the faster it gets stupid. See my point. But I still recommend you to buy this game. Trust me its good!
