THIS METAL GEAR SOLID IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST EVER IN MY OPINION, THE GRAPHICS IN THIS GAME YES THE GRAPHICS ARE DATED, BUT THOSE GRAPHICS WERE CONSIDERED THE BEST BACK THEN, AS FAR AS METAL GEAR SOLID THE TWIN SNAKES IS CONCERNED YES THE REMAKE WAS GOOD BUT THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE IT IN THE PLAYSTATION 2 CONSOLE NOT THE GAMECUBE, I HAVE GAMECUBE, BUT METAL GEAR SHOULD STICK WITH A MATURE CONSOLE NOT A KIDS CONSOLE NOT TO PUT DOWN GAMECUBE IT IS COOL THOUGH,AS FAR THE VOICE ACTING IN THE TWIN SNAKES IT IS HORRIBLE IT SOUNDS LIKE IT'S READING FROM IT'S SCRIPT, IN THE ORIGINAL METAL GEAR SOLID FOR THE PLAYSTATION THEY HAVE ENTHOUSIASIM IN THEIR VOICES ALSO THE SOUNDTRACK IN METAL GEAR SOLID IS THE BEST, IN TWIN SNAKES THEY CHANGED THE SOUNDTRACK AND IN WHICH IT SUCKS. IT'S NO GOOD, I HOPE IN THE NEAR FUTURE EITHER FOR THE PLAYSTATION 2 OR PLAYSTATION 3 THEY REMAKE THIS GAME WITH MUCH BETTER GRAPHICS AND WITH THE SAME VOICE ACTING AND SAME SOUNDTRACK THAT THEY HAD FOR THE ORIGINAL METAL GEAR AND I HOPE THEY RELEASE IT AGAIN SOMEDAY ON THE CONSOLE WHERE IT BELONGS:
THE PLAYSTATION!!!
Genius. Pure genius

I've been playing this game for awhile now and it is the best game ever on the PS1. It's extremely hard which makes it a bit better. This game is not a fighing game, or a shooting game, its a game of stealth covert missions. The cut-scenes are awesome, the story-line is excellent, the soundtracks are phenomenal, you get the point. Overall, this game rocks.
For Mature

The cons for this game under description products stating that : Puzzles can be frustrating and that torture scene too intense for younger gamers. To me this was stupid. Most of the easy games can be boring. This game gets you be involved in the story and it's very easy too follow if you are a serious gamer. Also, mature games are supposed to be harder than kid's games. The puzzles are not that frustrating if you can think maturely (even kids can pass this game with any problem). About "Torture scene too intense for younger gamers", I think there is a reason why they labeled this game Mature. Mature games are not for kids. This game is one of the best I've ever played. Great Story, Great Collection.

Metal Gear: Solid - Circa 1998
GOOD:
- Considered a classic PS1 game to many
- voice-overs and sound track are pretty good
- Birthed modern day "stealth" gameplay
BAD:
- Graphics are pretty dated
- Game play might feel a little dated
- The dialog can drag on a little bit
IF IT FITS YOUR TASTE:
- Stealth gameplay, with some action mixed in
- Mature and complex story
- Multiple endings and even a few bonuses to unlock
GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- Tenchu
- Siphon Filter
- Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- There was a remake of this game for Nintendo's Gamecube called Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
- Metal Gear Solid is not the first but the third Metal Gear game in the Metal Gear franchise, previously there was Metal Gear and Metal Gear: Snake's Revenge on the NES
- The game Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions was a spin off from Metal Gear: Solid's training VR missions
- There is also a version of this game for P.C.

INTRODUCTION: Metal Gear Solid was released in 1998 and it became instantly famous. It's great graphics, (for the time) wonderful story, and its fun gameplay made it a hit!
GAMEPLAY: You are Solid Snake, and you have to infiltrate through a huge terrorist base threatening the US for money and Big Boss's remains. You have to be sneaky and stealthy, for if a guard catches you, a hoard of enemies will come and try to find and kill you, so be careful.
You will also get some cool weapons, like the Socom, which is a powerful gun, and the Nikita, a remote-controlled missile launcher.
Boss fights are fun and unique, from the gun-duel with Revolver Ocelot, to fighting a tank and helicopter on foot, to having a fistfight with a robotic ninja, the bosses are awesome.
In the game you will get a camera, which allows you to take pictures and discover ghosts. But you need a block per picture.
If you ever get stuck, contact your buddies on Codec, a cool communication system that allows you to talk to people like the General, Mei-Ling, (who saves your game) Master, (who looks like Wesker off Resident Evil) and more.
One more thing, the torture event. You have to tap circle rapidly to restore your health. You can submit, but if you do, Meryl, the hot, tough, woman that Snake loves, dies. Ocelot says if you use auto-fire, he'll know. He's lying. Turbo controllers are safe and are necessary for this part.
GRAPHICS: Well, it looks like standard Playstation graphics. Polygonal and grainy. But it was good for the time.
MUSIC: The music in the game is very suspenseful and catchy. Especially the boss music. Better than the remake's.
SOUND: The voices are very well done, and the sounds are pretty great, too.
STORY: The story unfolds through cinema-style cutscenes, (Which were new for gaming at the time) and Codec calls. The story is very rich and greatly crafted, if not a bit confusing.
OVERALL: One awesome game which is a must have for your collection. Also, get the sequels and the remake, The Twin Snakes. I love this game.
Excellent, one of the best

Metal Gear Solid in my opinion has to be one of the best games I've ever played. This game definately opened alot of door to games as we know them today. This game did to stealth/ action games the same as of what Final Fantasy did to RPG games. Some of the puzzles and a few of the main bosses were pretty tough but everyone should like a challenge and you'll get that with this. Still a great game for it's age and definately worth checking out.
My favourite game of all time

This is an incredible game! The only flaw is that it is too short. When you complete it the first time, you just feel that you are getting started. Also you unlock the Extreme difficulty setting, so thats where you will continue. But when you finish it again, you still want more!
I have played this game more than any other game. Now, lets see.., 6 years after its release, I still love it and played it as late as last month. Of course if you never played Metal Gear Solid when it was new, and are checking it out for the first time now, the graphics may appear to be old. But this is an old game for Playstation. It's top notch graphics for the Playstation.
This is the top stealth game from the man who invented the genre. Metal Gear was released on MSX in 1987, the very first stealth game. That is the grand father of Metal Gear Solid, Hitman and Splinter Cell.
The story is great. The next generation special forces led by members of FOXHOUND has captured a nuclear disposal facility on Shadow Moses island in Alaska. They are thretening the white house with a nuclear strike if their demands are not met within 24 hours. So Snake is called back in action from his retirement in Alaska. There are alot of twists and turns in the story ahead.
If you don't own this game, and you are looking for a Playstation game. Your search is over, this is the best. If you were looking for a newer game, I would still recommend Metal Gear Solid if you don't own it. But Playstation games has Playstation graphics.
Tactical Espionage Action:
To complete your mission without being detected by the enemy. If you run around shooting, you'll be bleeding.

This is the granddaddy of the stealth/action genre. It started it all and can NEVER be topped! It has more than just great gameplay. It has great characters, storline and a load of unlockables. I dont need to go into great detail here but its a MUST have for ANY fan of this genre. Some complain that its outdated, its not nor will ever be. The graphics are blocky and outdated but the game itself is food of the Gods.

This has the best plot in a story line ever and this is better than MGS 2 on PS2(PLAYSTATION 2).
Everything is great, characters/voice acting, music, intence stealth(if your new to stealth games), plot twists, boses and many more.
There's tons of originality and this has got to be the best game of all time.
nice long game, and fun to play.

This is a well made game that requires quite some time to beat. The game is always exciting, it also has a great story to keep you interested through out the game. Tons of weapons and enemies to play around with. You will spend some time on some parts but it's still fun.
