Way too many cutscenes and babble, not nearly enough game play. It's ultimately very boring.

I am not sure why this was not as popular as the other Metal Gear titles. Some people seemed to not like playing as Raiden and would have rather played Snake all the way through. I would find that this was a unique and story-enhancing feature. Sure you do not play as Snake for a good part of the game, but you do the same thing Snake does. Who knows? Perhaps he plays a more intregal role to some of the later series games yet to come out. I would not expect them to introduce a character for no reason what-so-ever.
Some people complained because Raiden is a bit whiny. I say that he is sticking to his character as a green rookie who has never seen actual combat. He is frantic, and sometimes does not know what to do, like anyone who would be new to the field.
They play is a bit more difficult than in MGS 1. However, I would only expect that. There are more features that allow you to be more intuitive and creative while sneaking around. You can hide in lockers, frisk people for items, hold them hostage...there are many different things that you can do in this game. The graphics are imazing and the action in the game is awesome. I recommend this game to anyone who love a good military action story. Something far better than I have seen out of any Tom Clancy movie to date, and alot more interesting.
Not as good as the first but still AMAZING!

First off, great intro music. Not as much playing the game as I would like but still a great concept, I prefer to be more sneaky even on a shoot em up. Good characters, but not as good as Foxhound characters. The setting (on the plant) is very good but the game becomes too unreal towards the end. This game is like a movie in places, which i like but some of the codec sequences where to long and off the point. Overall this game seems to be good when arsenal gear isn't involved.
I know i've slated the game here a bit but these are the only bad points the rest is 100% quality. BUY IT!
Its hard to believe that MGS2 was a 2001 PS2 game.......

Metal Gear Solid is one of the most well-known video game series in the world,to franchise has sold over 20 million units. It began as a 2D hiding game on the MSX and NES,then years later in 1998 it revolutionised action games by being a 3D stealth-action game which was rare as people losing teeth on famous games like DOOM and Duke Nukem(two of the best FPSs ever made) as they were just all out Run n Guns.
Anyways I loved MGS1 and its remake on GameCube TTS,just the same as MGS2 and MGS3 is my fave in the series,I have a 360 and since MGS4 is a PS3 exclusive,I won`t be playing MGS4 for like another 3 years(it comes out on 7/7/07) which is when the PS3 will have a price drop, but until then,I`m going to enjoy my XBox 360.
But lets get started on the MGS2 review shall we:
Graphics:9/10(yes bytodays Standards)
Oh god,the graphics in MGS2 are GREAT,it hard to believe this is a PS2 game at all, even after playing my next-gen XBox 360,I still find old MGS2`s graphics to be brilliant.MGS3 and MGS4 have better graphics, but still....
The textures are not jaggy the lighting was very well done and NO glitches.Well done Konami and Hideo Kojimas team.
Sound/Music:9/10:
Yeah the sound and music are something in MGS2 that will not be looked over, the sound is realistic and even add to gameplay,if you run around behind an enemy soldier(a guard) he will turn around to see who is there, the timing when someone runs/walks is very well done too.The music on the otherhand is one of the most memorable things from MGS2,the music is composed by Harry Gregson Williams famous for doing music in movies like The Rock and so on.The main METAL GEAR SOLID tune is in the game and I never get bored listening to it,but other music that fits in certain game sequences like for example when you race time to get somewhere the music will be fast paced, etc.
Camera:6/10:
Meh,the camera is Birdseye 3D view, not very attractive it toom me a while to get over it,thank goodness they`ve updated the camera in MGS3:Subsistence,lol.
Gameplay:9/10:
Well the gameplay is excellent and has you doing all sorts of stuff like sneaking, holding up guards, shooting, disarming bombs and puzzles such as shooting SemTex buttons and trying to get pass destroyed bridges using the remains of it.What takes away from gameplay is the fact....yes too many cutscnes cut in too soon.
Story:9/10:
Its a continuation from the first Metal Gear Solid, but this time the Marines are developing a new Metal Gear and Snake must destroy it,but like the other games ends up in twists and turns.
weapons/items:8/10:
There is an OK amount of weapons in the game revolving from pistols to assault rifles and sniper rifles to rocket launchers. The item selection has a load of "No-use" things, but you do get to play the game smoking a ciggerette to help spot out lasers.
So I must say to any action gamer if you haven`t played MGS2 or any MGS you must play it its a great game, and its quite cheap now too,any where from 5 dollars new to about 2 dollars used. The games made its money years ago(its sold over 8 Million copies).
Sweet Game

I love this game. It has proved to be fun and challenging (on hard mode lol) and i love exploiting all the tricks of stealth on it that you cannot find on other games like splinter cell.
EXCELLENT game!

Metal Gear Solid 2 is exceptional on all aspects of game play. Kojima expertly weaves a story that is almost certain to mindf*ck you on all levels. Players will probably find themselves angered playing as the more effeminate (or perhaps the word I'm looking for is "bishounen"?) Raiden, but more perceptive players will recognize why his faults help add to the game's "WTF" factor, especially in retrospect upon the second playthrough.

This is a fantastic game! It takes a while to get used to (some aspects are a little strange at first), but you will grow to love everything about it. The plot, though incredibely complicated is amazingly crafted and will blow your mind. The gameplay is amazing-the controls are tricky at first, but once you master them you have more control than with most games. The graphics couldn't be better. Besides MGS3, I haven't seen better graphics for PS2.
The bosses you fight are great-from Vamp, an immortal vampire to Solidus, a clone of Snake bent on taking down the Patriots to Fatman, a crazy bomber.
Also, you use some awesome weapons which you can pick up along the way. Some examples are the M4, M9, AK-74u and socom.
For the first tiny section of the game, you play as Snake, the protagonist of MGS1. Then, as a twist, you play as Raiden, a young, somewhat androgynous soldier with a dark past for about 95% of it.
After playing this game once, I decided I prefered MGS3. But after playing a again, I've realized just how great MGS2 is. It's more than just a video game. It is a truly captivating story, with an incredible plot and engaging characters. It encompasses philisophical issues and conspiracy theories while remaining a very fun game to play.
By the end, you will have gone though an amazing journey and you'll feel completely satisfied with the story's ending.
I cannot reccomend this game enough. I don't know how to explain how fantastic this game is. Simply play it.
Can I play yet?

I had a hard time getting into this game but it picks up the pace if you can keep after it. The thing that annoys me the most is the large chunks of video and dialogue where you are not playing. You just sit there and suffer through it until it lets you play again. Some you can skip but some you can't but it all adds to the story, which is what you really want to figure out anyway. Otherwise, it's just a mindless game. It's a good game. It's a fun game. But, I'm giving it a lower score because of these segments where you are just expected to sit there and watch.
