Legendary Game

This game in my opinion was beutifully created. From the in game visuals to cinematics the graphics were flawless. The sound was also perfect. The fact that it was a movie/game was pretty cool. Its hard though to understand the plot without playing the first game though. The cinematics were great in all but the game could have used more action and less talking. This is obviously one of the best games out to date. The only main problem was that the game could have been longer. It was fun in all but once you beat the game in every difficulty level, it takes about 3 hours to complete. I would actually give this game a 4.5 out of five because of the long periods of talking but besides that the game is flawless.

Incredible attention to detail!

I am amazed at the level of quality in this game. From footprints left by walking in the rain, to blood trails left by gunshots that alert guards as to your whereabouts, this game is asbolutely amazing! You can actually feel your heartbeat when guards are looking for you. If I had one gripe with the game, it's that the movie sequences tend to drag.

It is excellent but not groundbreaking like the previous one

It is an awesome game. This game is probably one of the best games for ps2. There are a few down sides, like if an enemy has been patrolling all day and keeps passing another friendly soldier all day also, wouldn't he notice when his friend suddenly disappears. Granted this might make the game impossible. The story is way over the top. It is like a mix of Jerry Springer and a soap opera like only the Japanese can do. The game plays exactly like the first one which is good and bad because it's not new anymore. Up sides you can interact with almost every single part of the environment. To be stealthy requires lots of well thought out planning. It is very violent in a good way.

BLOWS AWAY THE COMPETITION

After playing this game, I cant seem to find any other that can match it. Everything else seems boring. games within this genre I mean. The only dissapointment I had was the length of it, too short. Only took me 11 hours to beat it in normal mode. All it is, is the tanker episode and the plant episode. Wish it could of been longer. Plus, ending was boring, too much of that sentimental stuff. Other than that everything was perfect!

One of the Best!

This is a spectacular game, one of the best. The story is amazing(That if if you don't SKIP the cenimas!!!) The plot has so many twist and turns the game always has you on the edge of you seat. Also some of the best graphics on the PS2. There are beautiful backrounds which you can realilisticly interact with. It is a bit longer than MGS. It will take you about 15 hours to complete it. That is fivteen hours of game, not trying to unlock a few extras. How do you unlock extras you ask? Simple stick a gun to a guards head, and he will give you his dog tag. Collecting all of these dog tags can take some time, so that means if you try to unlock every thing, and find out every litte thing MGS2 has to offer it is a much longer experance. If love action, stealth, and a great story, this game is for you.

Like a 10-hour version of the Matrix, but with more mullets.

Even with 140+ reviews already up, I feel compelled to write one having just completed the game. Gameplay, graphics, and fancy weapons aside, the major point here is the blurring of the line between games and movies.

MGS2 is quite possibly a new form of entertainment. While many games have tried to incorporate a strong plot, character development, and create an involving atmosphere, the quality of the execution in MGS2 makes for a qualitatively different experience. The balance of player involvement/exploration and guided storytelling makes playing the game feel like you've just been casted for a part in the Matrix. And it keeps you glued for hours.

MGS2, and its inevitable immitators, could expand the PlayStation audience to new segments the same way Electronic Arts sports games made it socially acceptable for jocks to be seen playing video games.

There is one drawback to the experience though -- the atrocious haircuts (mostly mullets) on the main characters. But don't let that discourage you from immersing yourself in this remarkable game. After all, there may be a secret code to fix the problem.

An awesome game....you won't regret it.

I'm a young teen and I was lucky my parents even let me rent this game. Damn, WAS I LUCKY! This game is just like a PG-13 movie, forget the rating. There's mind blowing cinematics that get you sucked into a videogame like no other game has done before. You get to spy on people in a videogame like no other game has done before. Even though the cinematics can be quite long, you get a much better feel for the game. Even after you beat this game, there's plenty of challenges....you get to collect dog tags off soldiers! 365 of them! Anyway, OPM gave this game a 5/5, and will probably be a nominee of game of the year for all gaming magazines. But forget them, gamers themselves agree.....

Sons of liberty is possibly the best...

..action game for PS2 today. It features a great story that actually was well thought out, and is very deep and well developed. The story is definetely one of the major things in this game. Graphics are another amazing thing. The water graphics are awesome, the levels are extremely detailed and the characters are realistic. The game features music by Henry Gregson Williams (Enemy of the State).

PROS:
-Intense and deep story
-Wonderful graphics
-Excellent voice acting
-Lots of stuff to look at and interact with.

CONS:
-Its a bit too short
-No option to choose the japanese language
-even though extremely detailed, the fact there are only 2 (long)locations is upsetting
-NOT ENOUGH NEW WEAPONS!

Despite those problems the game is a must buy and does deserve the 5 stars.

Near-Perfect Game

OVERALL: This game is a must-buy by all standards. The use of stealth and the colorful characters are just like the original and the other best for Playstation. What are you standing there for reading this review? Buy this game!

GAMEPLAY: The enemy AI has drastically improved since the original Metal Gear Solid. Solid Snake or the other character Raiden have to actually be sneaky and stealthy. I like the fact that you can hide in lockers this time and the boxes actually resemble boxes. Otocon and Rose, the two comm persons, are still as annoying as ever. They remind me more of gnats than anything else.

CONTROL: The control of these characters, Solid Snake and Raiden, is nearly perfect. It is just sensitive enough without being touchy. Even the use of the nice tang sword is fluid and smooth. You can easily link combos with the sword. Additionally, the camera angles actually go with the character, rather than bouce around wildly like Tomb Raider.

SCENERY/GRAPHICS: The scenery and graphics are absolutely perfect. The weather effects are "real." The birds actually move, and you can shoot down pidgeons. Dinner, anyone?

STORYLINE/CHARACTERS: The storyline is mature and involves the whole Y2K scare and gets into a long dissertation into genetics, literature and inheritance. The Cyber-Ninja returns for this game as well. This time around Revolver Ocelot doesn't participate tremendously as an active enemy. Rather, he acts like a passive enemy, not really wanting to kick anyone's butt. Again, the female characters are exceptionally strong and hot, especially Fortune and Olga. We do learn that Liquid Snake is not dead. (Like how many times do we have to kill this guy?) A new boss (that actually looks like Big Boss) comes in, and his name is Solidus Snake. I liked this guy for a boss. He had honor and dignity in his conquest, unlike Liquid Snake who was -- and still is -- on a freaking power trip. Hopefully, we get someone like Solidus Snake on the good side next time around. Someone big and someone who prefers the use of swords!

MOVIES: Sometimes long, but well worth watching. But you have to experience with the vibration ON! That is absolutely critical!

SOUND EFFECTS: These sound effects are nearly perfect as well. The guns sounds like the respective guns, and the vibration effect is a nice touch. When the enemies are patrolling and ordering a clearance, you can actually feel the heartbeats increasing. The voiceovers are also spectacular, but the movie effects are dramatic.

IMPROVEMENTS: Easier method to obtain the stealth suit, rather than playing the game over and over. Next, I hope for a more interactive environment, and the ability to hide under desks. Also, next time I hope that we can for example push the shelves (like Tomb Raider: Chronicles) to block during a clearance and to "hide" enemies. Other than that, buy this game, will you?

good clean fun... yeah right

It's the game your mom hates, Metal Gear Solid 2. It's sooo fun though. It was overshadowed by GTA3 and it ... me off. Also, if you think this game is too violent look at it this way. You can turn the blood off. But theres still gonna be some in the cut scenes. Including head shots and vampire suckin.
