BIG let down!!!!

This game over all was a big big let down. This game was more like a movie than a video game. I found myself trying to beat it as fast as I could so that I could sell it. The game wasnt even that long, I beat it on hard under 13 hours. I would have to say rent it, beat it, (in about 3-5 days) and then thank god you didnt waste $.. plus like I did, and go out a get a sports game with replay value, cause this one sure isnt wrote playing a second time.

I was so excited for this game, even pre-ordered it. What a disappointment, your character is a mid 80's glam rock reject, controls and perspectives are counterintuitive, it only took 40 hrs to complete and has little replay value. Worst of all, you spend TONS of time listening to mostly pointless dialog and character animations, not realistic cinematic segue ways but your normal character animated around the game field.

Cons:
Game play frequently disrupted by poorly animated story
Lack of continuity between 1st & 3rd person views
Short game with little replay value
Extremely limited hand-to-hand combat

Pros:
Great concept- intelligent fighting vs. berserk raging

"Snake, I thought you were dead?" - "I am!"

FIRST OFF, If you loved this game, you wont like this review, so just skip it...

I know it is hard to make a good game, I know it takes a lot of time, thought, talent and expense, but really, MGS II is really nothing more than a REAL EXPENSIVE DVD. Ya know? We have waited a LOOOONG TIME for this one. I've been playing video games for a long time (about 15 years), and in great variety (atari thru PS2), I have also played TO DEATH, the original Metal Gear (excellent game), and this game (MGSII) is a joke. It is literally 11-12 hours start to finish, with (seriously) 80% FMV and cut scences. Now, it is a very beautiful game with great sounds, but YOU DONT EVEN GET TO PLAY AS SNAKE!!!! What the...!?!?!? Oh, I'm sorry, you do get to play as snake, in the first (and best) part of the game, I almost forgot because it was such a TINY AND FAST part of the game. To make matters worse, you dont even get to fight all the bad guys. And what is it with the Vampire guy, and this "invincible chick"? Sounds more like a resident evil wanna be story line, ya know? Each time I see the TV commercial touting how great metal gear II is, I really want to puke. I played all the way through (at one point it was over 30 minutes of cut scenes before I could actually play - during which I actually nodded off) hoping to get to a better part, but there was none.

As one astute reviewer noted, there are no real material differences since the last game, except A LOT LESS PLAYING TIME!!! I will also point out that like many other two-dimensional games, in other words games where movement in SEVERELY (and often ridiculously) restricted, the convoluted plot is more silly than the fact that a chair can block the path of our "Powerful HERO who carries a GRENADE LAUNCHER!!!! Am I the only one who finds this sort of thing stupid???

I really enjoyed the first MGS, that was an awesome game even though Snake cant even jump over small objects in his way, or blow them up with his GRENADE LAUNCHER etc...(what a stud), but I am really disappointed in Konami for this one, I guess that Hideo (the director) is laughing all the way to the bank though...and after all, who cares what the gamers think?!? Right??? Could there really have been much work involved in the same basic game with a lot more FMV and cut scenes? Why did it take so long to get this one out?

To close this long winded but necessary review I have to say that I eagerly awaited a much BETTER game that MGS, and have found that this game isnt nearly as fun as the first one, and hey, didnt you want to play as SNAKE??? Who cares about the other guy. The cover is even a picture of SNAKE, whats that all about - very misleading!!!

I see that a lot of people liked this game and I am sure that I would have liked it 10 times more if there was even two times more playing time. I mean, thats why we bought it, right?!?! I returned mine after completing it in 3 days getting only $15 for it. Way to go Hideo!

This is one freakin ecstatic game, I loved the first and the second just brang back the first and more. Snake- he has changed, with his mullet and new list of moves. There is only on bad thing, RAIDEN, he is in mostly all of the game play and the ticed me off! TH sound and musical soundtrack rocks, the graphics just kikc but and plot is confusing but good! Almost everything in this game is playable, from shooting glass and hearing it shatter to roling over large gaps in the paths, the graphics are so freking ecstastic. This game includes much more stealth and actually makes you use your mind to do challenges. Ther is one dissapointment, the bosses in the first half are pathetic. If you like the first mgs get this game if you like other agent games you will love this game and if you dont like games youll like games.

SWEET GAME

Hideo Kojima, legendary game designer, does it again. This latest installment in the Metal Gear series is perfect in nearly every way. The level of attention to detail is astounding, as the computer players react realistically and in a dazzling variety of ways. The story is deep, the characters are well-developed, and the action is captivating and diverse. The only flaw (a minor one at that) is that Solid Snake, the traditional Metal Gear hero, isn't used as often as I would've liked in the storyline.

Still I recommend this title to anyone.

This was my first game after recently buying a PS2. Put simply, this blows away pretty much any game ever made. From the graphics to the sound to the voice acting to the story, everything is nearly perfect. I say nearly, simply because I'll agree with most of he other reviews I have read that: this game has far too many cutscenes. What's worse, 95% of the cutscenes are done in the drab green and black of the Codec (your comm. device in the game). That's about it as far as Cons go though. From the very beginning of the story you are put in the shoes of a Top Secret operative armed with your wits and the various weapons you find throughout the game, you have to overcome overwhelming odds to unravel the mystery that is Metal Gear Solid 2... Along the way you find out *who* the Sons of Liberty are and uncover a serious X-Files type conspiracy in the process. The ending, put simply, is odd and quite appropriate. All in all it's like a movie and you will feel as if you are the agent/hero/main character. I especially liked the various mini objectives throughout the game. For example the first mission involves simply taking photos of the new Metal Gear with a digital camera. Then you have missions where you have to rush around and disable bombs, missions where you have to rescue the damsel in distress and then protect her for a while. Sniping missions. And of course the epic battle between you and about 20 metal gears (two words: Stinger Missles). On top of all that the game is actually winnable without killing *anyone*, including bosses (they have knockout meters as well as life meters).

In conclusion this is an incredible game and simply a *must have* for any PS2 owner who likes a well thought-out and well executed game.

The Best PS2 game eva!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
