I played Metal Gear Solid for PS1, and I have to admit, this game is not as "hot" as all the "hype" suggests....MGS1 is a way better game, MGS2 is boring, at least for me it was.....the graphics are good but the environments are bland and boring....did I say boring again....must be cause this game stinks, I lost my interest before saving the President................Toilet

I first brought this game when it was released,i rented it first before i brought it.It was great i've played nearly a hundred times and even though it is'nt that long it is still fun.The story is so good, the way it works and involves the first game. The ai is great there are'nt that many games which have this. The high points are the following
.great ai
.story is great,keeps you focused
.graphics are almost close to real, amazing
.characters each play a major role
.action/movement is great
.its the closet game to a movie
bad points are/
.even though the story can get complicated,it is'nt that long
.you can play as two characters, but you dont get to play that long as solid snake[the main character]instead you are playng as raiden[looks like a women]
overall-if you have played the first one then you will understand this better.Otherwise its the one the best action games on the ps2/any console.
Boooring..........

I bought this game with high expectations. After playing for about 4 hours, I got to the end. "That's it?" I said. The game ended and its been gathering dust ever since. I played it once more and put it back in its box. Nobody will even buy it from me. lol.
Oh my dear god.

This game is one of the greatest things I've ever set my hands on. It is unbelievably realistic. For instance, when you are outside and it is dark, and then you walk into a bright room, everything will be blurry and bright, just like in REAL LIFE! Although, yes most of the game is cinematics, what could possibly be better than a combination of a movie and a game? Great Game. If you buy any game for your ps2, make it this one.
A tedious story ruins what could have been a good game

I am not a fan of Metal Gear Solid, or its sequel for the PS2. Often times great game creators are not great story writers, and that is clearly the case here. The story in Metal Gear Solid 2 makes absolutely no sense, and becomes a chore to sift (and sit) through. The game "features" hours of cut scenes and cinema that I would much rather do without. If you skip cut scenes whenever possible, the game is relatively short and remains unexciting.
Metal Gear Solid features gameplay built on the assumption that trial and error is fun. There are parts of the game where this gameplay mechanic is very successful, and sneaking around areas can be very enjoyable. There are also sections of MGS2 that feel like they were included only to increase the total time it would take someone to finish the game. Overall the gameplay approaches brilliance at times, but the negatives often outweigh the positives.
This game has one huge positive going for it: It is absolutely beautiful to look at. I do not own an X-Box, but MGS2 features the best graphics I have ever seen, especially when it comes to in-game action. The attention to detail in the visual presentation is an amazing achievement, and I applaud Mr. Kojima and Konami for that.
Overall, MGS2 features brilliant graphics, occasionally fun gameplay, and an absolutely horrid story that makes no sense whatsoever. My vote: 2
Good, but a little short

MSG2: SOL was one of my better buys, I have to say, but if you're looking for a game that takes time, look to a different game. Sure, the storyline is great, but I beat the game over the weekend, playing for a maximum of about 4 hours. I also hate this new character Raiden. He is a whiny little brat who can't do anything for himself and for the first 30 minutes of the second half of the game, you are constantly calling the Colonel, and I don't want to waste my time with that. I have to give Hideo props though. He came out with an amazing storyline and a really intriguing look on the US government. The graphics in this game are great, and you can do a lot more things with your character than in the first Metal Gear Solid. Overall, this game is about 3 stars of 5. All I can say is that my cousin's better give me back the first Metal Gear Solid because the first one is a lot better than the 2nd one, lengthwise and it keeps you hooked. If you're looking for a game that has action and adventure and isn't just about blowing crap up, I suggest you rent this game, see how you like it, and then seriously considering buying it.
Fun, intelligent, sleek, and stealthy: my kind of game

Old-school revival has become quite popular nowadays, and this movement owes its foundation to Konami and Hideo Kojima. With the release of the first Metal Gear Solid, after a 11-year hiatus from the first Metal Gear on the NES, a new era had come to pass in video games. Like its NES brother, MGS was one of the first and only games to emphasize stealth rather than brute force in its gameplay. It short, it offered something different from other action/adventure games, and earned its praise. Now comes Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. I didn't get very far in this game, but being my first MGS game, I was very impressed. First of all, it couldn't have been released at a better time: right after September 11. It's a pretty patriotic effort on Konami's part. Except for the fact that he smokes, Solid Snake is one awesome character, and certainly earns his status with Mario, Sonic, and other groundbreaking giants of the industry. The game opens up with the Tanker chapter, which is very well done. I had to study up on MGS 1's story to get the story of this game, and I gotta tell you, it's the most complex storyline I've ever seen for a video game. It would make a great movie plot. The gameplay is fantastic. It takes a rhetorical approach, as you can go through the entire game without killing anyone (pull out your M9 tranquilizer pistol), except for the bosses. Holding up Russkies (their voices are dead-on) never gets old. The only complaint is the second chapter, the Plant Chapter. Raiden is a bit of a baby. But overall, MGS 2 is a great gaming experience, and has gotten me hooked on the spy thriller genre.
FINAL SCORE- 9/10

Metal Gear Solid Sons of Liberty starts off where the first one left off. I'll talk about 5 aspects of the game, graphics, gameplay, story, controls, and voicing.
Graphics, you'll first notice, are unbelievable. They are stunning. They are crisp and crystal clear. Metal Gear Solid is really pushing the Ps2 to its limits. There's not much to say, they are near perfect. Graphics 5/5.
Gameplay, is good. It offers a great game if you like watching cutseen after cutseen. Come on, is MGS a movie or a game? Yeah, cutseens roll the story along fine, but there are to many and they are to long. You'll finish watching a cutseen just to walk ten feet and find yourself in another cutseen. Some conversations, like ones between Rose and Raiden, are absolutly meaningless. Gameplay gets a 4/5.
Story, well its Metal Gear, what do you expect. It starts out interesting and understandable. But, as you progress it gets weird. There are alot of twists, in it, that really will keep you stunned. Story 5/5
Controls is probably where the game could have used some work. You eventually get used to them but they do take practice. Maybe its because of the camera that gets in your way, that messes up the controls. I wish Konami could have done a camera like the one in Resident Evil Dead Aim. Controls 3.5/5
Voice acting is almost perfect. It matches up with the motion of the mouth and looks good too. Its just that sometimes during the Codec the voices get ahead of the motions of the mouth. But thats it. Voicing 4/5
Over all Metal Gear Solid SoL is a very worthwhile game. It has an engaging story, lots of shoot em' up action, and eye popping graphics. This is a must buy for any Ps2 owner.
Get it! Get it! GET IT!

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Libert is the model stealth game. It is another masterpiece by Hideo Kojima! Now, let's get to the game...the graphics are fantastic! Rain is realistically portrayed, and all of the enviroments and characters look great. The gameplay is great, too! It is a bit hard to learn all of Snake and Raiden's moves, but after a while, its natural. Snake and Raiden can hang over ledges, roll out of harm's way, or do kung-fu! My only problem is the cutscenes! They are really too frequent, and thaey can be prety long... Also, (So far as I've played, and if you turn blood off, even though, it's still in the cutscenes) there is only one really bloody part, when your on Raidens story. It is when a SWAT team got massacred...its pretty nasty. But besides thoughs 2 problems, MGS: 2 is a SWEET game.
A rare play.

The gameplay is pretty much identical to Metal Gear Solid on PS1. The graphics are top-notch and it has the classic MGS feel. Awesome music compositon, a wonderfully written story. What brings this great game down to a 4/5 instead of a 5/5 is that there is a lot more watching than playing and the plant chapter can actually get tedious. A lot of the rooms and sections look exactly the same.
I recommend this game to any Metal Gear, and Metal Gear Solid fan.
