This game is like none other! The only thing I have to say is: buy this game no matter the cost. This game is worth every penny. I'm a huge fan of the first game, so of course I got the demo of "Sons of Liberty" the day it came out (packaged with Z.O.E., of course). I have played and beaten that demo over, and over, and over, and over again. The game has so much depth to it, that it's almost eerie. The details that Hideo Kojima and the rest of the Konami crew are putting into this game are spectacular. There's so much to discover and see in this game that there's never a dull moment. There's practically nothing that you can't make Snake do. Try shooting the glass bottles in different places, or watching ice cubes melt, or sneaking up behind an enemy and making him plead for his life, or stashing the dead (or snoozing) bodies away in the lockers, or doing pull-ups on the outside railing, or just plain sneaking around in your awesome looking cardboard box. My favorite improvement, although small, would have to be the ability to peek around corners and edges. It just looks so awesome. I know this is a cliche and is used way too much, but: get this game even if it costs you an arm and a leg......It's well worth it. 'Nuff said.
WORTH IT

I've only played the demo version. Can't wait for the full version. MGS2:SofL will no doubt reign as best game of the year, followed closely by Devil May Cry.
Forget everything else this fall, and get a copy of MGS2:SofL. What the hell am I saying, this game will sell it self. So unless you've been living in a cave for the past 3 years...screw it, if you ARE living in a cave get yourself a diesel generator, TV, PS2, and MGS2:SofL. You won't regret it caveman. Enjoy life. Laterz, TB.
This really is the best gaming has to offer!

When MGS first came out on the Playstation, I thought is was amazing and couldn't get any better. Then when Zone of the Enders came out and the MGS2 demo with it, I was truely amazed at the complexity and depth the game placed the played into. This was gaming nirvana. After playing this game in its fullest, I believe that this game was really worth the fifty dollars I put out to get it. Hours of gameplay, goals that make you replay this game many times over, twisting storyline that keeps the player guessing what will happen next. For those seeking answers to the questions in the first one, this game covers all of the answers and leaves not one thing hanging in the air. Truely a great game. WORTH EVERY CENT!
SSShhhhh!!!....

Haven't you heard that it's impolite to talk during a movie?! Well, this game blurs the lines between movie and video game. I recently finished the game. Let me say that this game is one of the best games I've ever played. But, the downside that kept me from giving this game a perfect 5 stars is the fact that there's TOO much story. I've read several reviews and they say the same thing. The issue with the codec communications really distract you. On one hand you wish to hear what's going on because you want to become involved in the story. However, on the other hand, they drag it out to the point where I found myself pressing the Triangle button to skip it all. It's a shame, I probably missed some valuable information. Actually, I don't mind the movies as much, it's the stupid Nannocommunications (codec) that is so boring. Especially with Rose and Raiden. "Oh, I love you Jack", "I love you too Rose", kiss, kiss, kiss. The game developer's feeble attempt to add some character depth in the game is embarrassing. And the timing is awful too. There's a scene where he just got through shooting up a bunch of bad guys, blood all over the place and she's calling him to tell him about how he left without saying goodbye. I think Mr. Hideo (I don't know his last name) needs to forget about directing and work more on the gameplay itself. After all, if I wanted a movie I'd a bought one. I bought a game and that means I want to play! I understand a 3rd one is coming out. And it takes place in the jungle. That's cool. But, please, leave out all the fluff and get to what's true...gaming!!!!

I love Metal Gear Solid 2. The gorgeous graphics, the interactive environments; but most of all the gameplay. Sons of Liberty improves upon the gameplay of the original in every way. Control feels more responsive, and there is an abundance of new moves: Hanging from ledges, peeking out to fire weapons from behind walls, rolls... But most importantly the ability to shoot while in first-person perspective. Sure, in the first Metal Gear Solid you could look around in first-person mode, but now you can fire while in it too, which allows you to take out enemies from a distance. Add in new weapons, new characters (and returning ones), and you've got one hell of a good game.
You won't actually be playing that often though. Cinemas between ten and fifteen minutes in length are rather common, and break up the gameplay. Which, in my opinion is generally fine, because they flesh out the story. In a game like the original Metal Gear Solid, the cinematics were my favorite feature. And while they are certainly impressive looking in Sons of Liberty, the story is seriously disappointing.
Some magazines attacked the story for making absolutely no sense. I disagree. It is difficult to follow, but you should be able to understand most everything about it, especially if you play throuhg multiple times and/or have played the original Metal Gear Solid. The real trouble with the story is that it gets too caught up in trying to surprise the audience. The plot does so many U-Turns in the last twenty minutes of the game it just seems rather ridiculous. Plus, most of the complications ad plot twists are way to far-fetched to believe. And that was one of the things that truly immersed gamers in the original Metal Gear Solid. A great, believable plot.
Still, with it's shortcomings - and the plot is the only one I can think of, aside from broken up gameplay - Metal Gear Solid 2 is a remarkable achievement for videogaming, both technically, and because it bridged the gap between videogaming and other forms of respectable entertainment even more.
At the very least rent it.

MGS2 is one of the few perfect sequels that exist in the gaming world today. Also, it has a great graphical engine, and amazing environment features. People have denounced, MGS2, because of it's unrealisticness, but is that really why we're playing video games? Do you play to have fun, obviously. We play video games so we can do stuff we can't do in real life, like battle 50+ enemies with a sword alone. I have to admit, the last hour of MGS2, is really, graphically amazing. Splinter cell is also mission-based, BORING! MGS2, has better weapons selection too. Although, the fact the Konami has incorporated Raiden into the game was surprising, i expected more Snake, but change is good. Good soundtrack also. Also, the clear codes were pretty cool. The first-person shooting and amazing was awesome too. I'm really not looking forward to another Splinter Cell, because MGS2, has a better story, better weapons, i think better environment interaction, (because honestly watching the temperature of dead bodies go away in splinter cell was not fun at all and it didn't help me at all.) The gadgets in splinter cell were dumb too. First of all, if that game was made to show real-espionage-action, then maybe they'd make the lockpick better. I know what lockpicking is and how you do it, and you can't pick a lock in less than a minute! But anyways, MGS2, has a great history, and it really just keeps getting better. I can only imagine what MGS3 will be like
