My God. Some people are very annoying, this game is amazing, buy it now. Anyway, I'm going to adress a few of the "problems with this game.
Length: This game takes, about 15 hours to beat without getting all the dog tags, that's not long...BUT...the 1st MGS was about 5 hours. So if you didn't mind the 1st's length, you'll have tons of fun with this one.
Too Many Cut Scenes: The story is fine. Some have said that after the Tanker chapter, you're totally cut off and you begin a new storyline! This is totally wrong. I guarantee whoever said that in their review didn't finish the game. The first part is a introduction, if you will. The rest of the game picks up 2 years later.
Raiden: Ok, so for the majority of the game you don't play as Snake. BOO-HOO! I'm sick of all the people saying "I HATE RAIDEN! HE IS SO ANNOYING" etc. Well, the truth is, it's the same game! I don't care who I play as as long as I am allowed to partake in this delightful gaming goodness. Babies.
To reiterate, buy this game now. Really. Stop reading the review and click the button! What are you still reading this for? Stop! Buy the game already. Ok, stop reading.......now! I said STOP! ok, forget it I'm leaving. BUY IT!

The long anticipated sequel to Metal Gear definitely meets lofty expectations. The stunning cinematic sequences and ultra-smooth gameplay left me ready for the next release from Hideo Kojima and his crew. The best thing about this game is that after you beat it you want to play it again. You think, "Maybe I can be sneakier next time" or "Did I miss any cool items this time through?" I especially like how you can interact with the background environment. For example, when you're in the kitchen with bomb expert Peter Stillman try shooting the watermelons and watch them explode. Or do 100 pull ups while in hanging mode and increase your grip strength. This is the only game I've ever played that deserves 5 stars.

What can you say about this game? It is pure genius. Why? well, let me tell you.
Now, we've all played or at least heard of the 1st hit, Metal Gear solid. Arguably the best epic game for playstation. Now number 2. Better graphics, better music, better gameplay, more tactics, I could go on forever.
Metal Gear solid takes place in two "chapters". The Tanker chapter, the part that we've all played on the demo, up to Olga. and then the Plant chapter. Where you play as Raiden. Although we all want to play as Solid, but believe me, Raiden is just as good. The music is by the same person that mad the music for "The Rock," Enemy of the State," and "Armageddon". The intro movie music sounds exactly like the music of The Rock. There are way too many gameplay features too list. There are, if you played the first one, so many things that are explained in this game. It is amazing how well it all (both of the games) fit together. I won't give any of it away, becase one bit of information will give it away.
You run, jump, hang, duck, crawl, shoot, and sneak your way the the most detailed game of the year. This is a must have for any Playstation 2 owner. even if you don't like these epic games, you will like this one because it includes so many genres of games into one game. BUY THIS GAME!!
More than meets the eye ...

This game is truly amazing. TRUE: it goes for a much safer (which is to say more politically correct, which is to say booo-ring) treatment than its PS1 predecessor; TRUE: about 90% of the game is spent with a whiney--albeit athletic--ex-Backstreet Boy; TRUE: it lacks some of the truly incredible (for their time) innovations of "Metal Gear Solid (1)" (although, in lieu of these, there are other, very different truly incredible innovations). BUT! If you think you've played it already, you may need to think again.
Frankly, most games for the PS2 are not worth more than a rental. For my money (and I am not inclined to senselessly spend money), there are only 2 games worth owning: "Grand Theft Auto 3" and this one. And whereas GTA3 is everyone's dark closet fantasy spelled out in all-too-realistic 3D fashion, MGS2 is everything you ever wanted a James Bond-style espionage/adventure to be (save perhaps the gratuitous booty-calls).
The game is like a movie--almost as fun to watch as it is to play. And once you get a feel for them, the controls are very natural and lifelike (much more so than MGS1).
But these are all details you can see for yourself in simply playing the game. The real charm of the game is in its extra features (the thousands upon thousands of tiny but nonetheless carefully thought-out hidden features and little quirks which have nothing to do with the rest of the game and which most gamers will probably never realize are there). I've beaten the game on every difficulty and gotten every dog-tag (which you collect from foes and friends alike through-out the game) and I STILL find new things.
There are the basics, like the ability to manipulate the camera using R1 and R3 during cinema sequences, or the fact you can plant C4 explosives (as in MGS1) on people's backs. But there are so many more. During the codec interludes, Snake and Raiden can think while other people are talking; press R1 to hear a positive thought and R2 for a negative one. As Snake, try taking a picture of various things around the ship (a centerfold plastered to a far wall which a guard looks at in one area, the Raven doll, a Marine soldier (only if they happen to be in their underwear (sometimes they are, sometimes not)), pictures on lockers, Olga, etc.). After you pick up your directional microphone, you can listen in on truly bizzare side-conversations once in a while. And try contacting people on your codec in various situations--sometimes what they have to say is pretty funny (e.g.: Emma (or Otacon) after punching her or putting her to sleep, or Otacon (as Snake) while looking at one of the model's pictures on the lockers, or contact Octacon while in the locker (again as Snake). Hey, if you shoot enough birds or slap around enough hostages, the Colonel and Rose will contact YOU. This is just the beginning, believe me. The game is so chock-full of little extras, it's a wonder it turned out to be such a cohesive, excellently crafted tale. Not to mention the fact that it is always fun to go through it again with stealth camouflage and infinite ammunition (each of which you get after beating the game on a certain difficulty).
Hands down, the best video game ever created!!!

While walking along the aisles at Blockbuster one friday afternoon, I happened to notice this game. It was brand new, and only one copy was left. I had heard some friends talking about how great it was, so I decided to give it a try. When I got home, and popped it into the PS2, I was amazed right from the start. The graphics were mind-blowing, the play control was smooth, and the movies were extremely well done. Some people may complain about the movies being too long, but if you enjoy action stories and aren't afraid to use some of that grey matter, you too will love this game.
Entertaining!!

The hype surrounding this game was immense and as far as I can see MGS2 has lived up to a great deal of it. In case you're clueless about the Metal Gear franchise (as I was before playing MGS2) here is the scoop. Metal Gear Solid 2 like its predecessor chronicles an undercover agent's (codenamed Solid Snake) attempt to unravel the mystery surrounding a bi-pedal war machine called Metal Gear. The game is fun and entertaining. It does, however, contain a few flaws.
GAMEPLAY
Amazing. Simply amazing. The game progresses at a steady pace. The action, suspense and plot twists are all thrown in at the appropriate moments. If you're the shoot everything in sight then move on to the next stage type of player MGS2 will leave you very frustrated. Stealth is the key in this game. Move around without being discovered, because if you are it's all over.
Guards investigate footprints, fall asleep, and check in with their commanding officer not to mention surf the net for porn. Yes they do that too and no you don't actually see any naked flesh.
GRAPHICS
Metal Gear Solid 2 is without a doubt a visually stunning game. The attention to detail is impressive and you'll find yourself looking forward to the next cinematic. The storm effects in the Tanker stage of the game deserve a special mention.
SOUND
Like other aspects of the game this is handled well. The effects are good and the game's music changes to suit the situation.
FLAWS
Some of the games cinematics and codec calls are a little long and controlling your character can sometimes be a pain. Also, I would have liked to play more than two characters. This would've made the game more complex of course. So I understand why this wasn't done.
I recommend this game. Especially for those gamers that have a la femme Nikita or James Bond complex. Buy it and play it. You'll enjoy it.
Wow!

Half of the people that bought a playstation 2 bought it so they could play this game, and they were not dissapointed. Snakes back and he looks better than ever. Once again you must save the world from certain doom, but with a little twist, i dont want to give it away, but it is the only thing cooler than being snake(working with him). Just like its predecessor this is a fast pace gain, with a story full of back stabbing and lies. With the addition of first person mode, the action is crisp and smooth. The graphics are jaw dropping, the opening seen on the tanker in the rain amazes me everytime i see it. The characters were once again superbly acted and David Hayter is making a name for himself. With the additon od the dog tags(play it you will know) the reply value is raised even higher than normal for a game this good. The only think I disliked was the length, about 4-5 hours the first time and down to 3-4 the second, and the movies take up most of that time, but of course this is if you dont wander alot and just move through the game. A must buy, if you do not have it get it today.
Super cool game

The only bad thing about this game is that it has too many movie scenes and sometimes they are too, too long.
But,
The graphics are worth the PS2 console
The movies are extremelly realistic in a military way
The story is excellent
The control is great
The caracters movements are simply impresive
And, the fun is unlimited.
I've passed the game all along and I still want to play it
Blows away MGS1!!!!!!

This is the BEST game of the espionage genre that I have ever played. The game's storyline is so long and complex, that I can't explain it. This is one of the games where the designers ACTUALLY took time to write a gripping story. I can say this, you should read ALL of the messages that anyone sends you over CODEC, they're essential to understanding this storyline. If any of you think this is a strict stealth game (like splinter cell, but that's also a great game), you're wrong. There is nothing I'm better at than kicking down the door, and tossing in a grenade, but this game doesn't REQUIRE stealth, it's just an effective means of beating the game. This game delivers what most games can't all at once; tactics, espionage, cool guns, plenty of fighting, challenging (but not impossible) puzzles, and a great storyline. This one's definetly a winner! :)
The best game in all eternity

I never played the first MGS, but since everyone was going nuts over MGS2, I decided to give it a whirl. What I found blew me away. Let me just sum it up for you.
Graphics: 5/5
Several words come to mind when describing the Graphics of Metal Gear Solid 2. Fantastic. Unbelievable. Gorgeous. Unreal. Oh wait, that one doesn’t work. It IS real!!! I swear, every hair on Snake and Raiden’s heads must be mapped out. The clothes look so real. The animation is insanely fluid. The scenery is lusciously vibrant. Even the sea gulls look real! The graphics in this game make Shenmue look like a NES game. All in all, this is THE most realistic looking game for the PS2 or any other system.
Sound: 4.5/5
The sound in this game is very nice. Kojima got some quality sound guys together to produce gripping music and realistic sound effects. However, Raiden’s voice is a bit whiny, but it’s easily overlooked.
Gameplay: 5/5
The controls are very easy to use and get used to. The moves you can do are amazing. You can hang off railings, crawl through vents, hide in lockers, and a ton of other stuff. Camera angles are perfect, giving you just enough control to make it good. To prevent getting lost, the camera always aligns itself to the map. The physics in this game are astounding. Waves lap against boats. People react if you walk into them (instead of just sliding horizontally and acting if nothing happened). You slip and fall on bird poop! What really got me was the AI. When hiding from enemies, they don’t just walk right past you. They look under boxes, though locker slits, check the ventilation ducts, and lot more, making it extremely difficult to get away. If the do find you, instead of mindlessly attacking, they run for cover, radio for help, and carefully move in. The Boss fights are just as real. Instead of mechanically running around, they take cover behind boxes and use the environment to their advantage. The gameplay is fast, fun, and furious. Gaming at its finest.
Story: 4.5/5
MGS2 has a wonderful storyline full of plot twists. It’s divided into two chapters: Tanker and Chemical Plant. When you finish Tanker, it seems like they drop everything and start a whole new storyline, but just bear with it, it all ties together later. Toward the end, the plot can start to get confusing, and that might turn off a few gamers. And, I have to admit, Rosemary, Raiden’s girlfriend, can make the game seem like a soap opera at times, but even that plays a role in the plot, so just suck it up. Other than that, the storyline is gripping, weaving an amazing tale of colorful characters, malevolent enemies, and hidden pasts as a soldier desperately tries to hold on to reality in the dense fog of lies, cover-ups, and hidden identities.
Overall - 19/20 (95%)
This game is an absolute must have. If you have a PS2, you cannot possibly enjoy it without this game. If you don’t, this game is reason enough to get one.
