Everyone knows this is going to be the best game out for PS2...it needs no extra attention or praise because any PS2 owner has already heard all about it for the last 6 months. Why write stunning reviews for the demo, when you know the game is going to blow everything out of the water? I garuntee you, this game will be sold out as soon as it hits shelves because of its amazing publicity. Because we all SHOULD be MGS2 fans, I encourage everyone to send in a max star rating for this breathtaking adventure. Lets keep this baby at 5 stars, everyone. Let's all agree to totally bash anyone who doesn't give it the rating it deserves. Reserve your copy on Amazon now, and forget your social life, this game is gonna rock your world!
Great game, but the original Metal Gear Solid is better.

The day I bought Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, I was blown away by the outstanding graphics and the fact that Snake actually looked like a real dude on a mission - with the mullet, the bandana, etc. By the time I defeated Olga and took a grand tour around the Tanker, I thought for sure this game would be far more superior to its original title - Metal Gear Solid.
After I beat the Tanker, I was starting to dislike the game. I had to play Raiden, not Snake (What the heck was Hideo Kojima thinking!) It got worse, I had to go around and freeze bombs, and view very long movie scenes! The rest of the game dealt with bombs until you beat Fatman, the bomb boss. The rest dealt with using disguises, shooting down harriers (really fun), fighting bosses like Vamp, and rescuing important people like the President and Emma. Oh yeah, and the ending didn't really make any sense.
Finally, here are the PROS and the CONS
PROS:
-Outstanding Graphics
-New methods - such as hanging off ledges, diving somersaults, jump-out shots, etc.
-Sold one million more copies than Metal Gear Solid for PSone
CONS
-Raiden gets more onscreen time than Snake
-The Plant has a really pathetic story, the Tanker doesn't.
-The game only has 5 bosses, 6 including Fortune.
-Ending doesn't make to much sense
-A short game
Its a really great game, deserves 5 stars, BUT Metal Gear Solid is better.

Metal Gear Solid 1 on the PS1 was probably the best Playstation game there was. Somehow Konami failed miserably at bringing the game to the PS2. This was the biggest waste of money I ever spent on a game. The action is useless and repeditive and 100% boring. I really can't understand how the sequel to one of the greatest games ever made could be this bad. The story is still the worst feature, they threw in so many twists and lies that I really do not know what this game was about. Can anyone tell me how a vampire and a fat guy on roller skates, both aptly named "Vamp" and "FatMan" respectively, fit into a stealth-action military opperations game? Oh and not to mention a chick that can't be hit with bullets, except that its an illusion, cause everyone has bullets that are just blanks, except when they shoot and kill anyone else in the game. What was Konami thinking?
Now that this game is a "Greatest Hits", how that happened I will never know, it only costs like [money], but it isn't even worth that. Do your self a huge favor and go for Splinter Cell or start praying that MGS3 will be an actual game worth playing.
Hyper-realism marred by too many cut scenes...

MGS2 is one of the best selling games in existence because of the type of game that is it. This is a counter-espionage game that relies more on your ability to conceal yourself than running around the place blasting the hell out of anything that moves (which you can do too if you want). For this reason the game becomes very realistic and the graphics and sound are all too genuine and do not make you feel anything less than actually being there doing what the character is up to at that point in time. The world that you are immersed in has rain, sun and smoke and bad guys patrolling the area. You have both hyper-realistic 1st person views and a third person overhead view as you run around the place. The amount of moves and their combinations are staggering and the actual movement of the character is unparalleled by any game of it type. Watch as you throw your character over a railing and move along the pipe with your hands while dangling over a huge ocean. Let go and watch in horror as you fall to your death. Amazing! The plot is coherent and there is plenty of story to boot but.......... the game design itself is terrible, terrible, terrible.
MGS2 is by no means a disaster but unfortunately tries too hard to be a movie and less a game. The truth is that the vast majority, over 85%, of the game is spent watching video clips instead of gaming which is really what we want to do and is the reason why we bought MGS2 in the first place. There are so many video sequences in this game that all of the above suddenly crashes back down to the reality of holding a controller and watching the television screen as some video plays itself out. Sure you can skip it, but then two minutes later you find yourself back holding the controller and watching yet another video.... argghhh.... The other two major disappointments is that the game only takes place in ONE LOCATION - an oil rig, but it is huge! The other is that there are far too many calls and dialogues to go through on your communicator. Fans of the series may also not like the fact that the main protagonist in the first game has been replaced - however this is acceptable and does not detract from the experience.
In short this is one of the most hyper-real games that you will ever play - the graphics are nothing short of stunning and the character moves are out of this world - but it is all marred by the terrible amount of video clips that you have to sit through. In short this detracts from the overall gaming experience and you will soon get bored with it. Play MGS2 -- ONLY -- if you have the time and the patients to sit through a three minute video every other minute of game play.
Raiden, what is Konami doing?

Solid Snake is the only name that should be associated with Metal Gear.

Metal Gear Solid is sure a pure gem but It has a few flaws.
Lets get started shall we.
Now first of all. WHAT THE HELL IS RAIDEN DOING HERE. Alot of people had a problem with Raiden being in it. I'm not...I mean it's Metal Gear Solid For crying out loud! Metal Gear Ray is awesome. Not as good as Rex though....The plot was a little confusing at times and I was annoyed by the Kodec...ON AND ON...JEEZ when does Raidens Girlfriend NOT call.
Lets start shall we
Graphics....5/5
The graphics are great. Very welldone. The Enivermont desighn is fantastic. Great job...
Gameplay....4/5
TO MANY CUT SCENES!!! MGS 1 HAD MORE GAMEPLAY THEN THIS!
And this game is wayyyy to short...Takes about 5 hours to beat..It took me about 4 hours and 34 minutes..But I skipped most of the cutsences....And I hated the way the ending was...I would have liked it more if it was Snake Vs Ocelot in a metal Gear ray boss battle...More better from my opinion then Raiden Vs Abunch of Metal Gear Rays.
Sound...5/5
Superb..Music is great..
Overall Mgs2 doesn't quiet Match up to the Original MGS which Alot of people think is the Greatest Adventure game ever made...I think so to.
If the question...Is MGS worth buying the answer is..YES.
This game is still a classic and one of PS2's Stronger points.
Not as good as PSX's original Metal Gear solid but one step below. But MGS3 will be the best MGS ever!
So go out and buy this game if you really like MGS and don't be turned off by the game just Cause Raiden takes the place of the Legendary Snake who happens to be in the game for about 45 to 50 minutes...Still it's a great game...Haven't played Substance and don't on planning it either...
4.5 out of 5..
Overall it's a great game
Later....

MG2 is not really a game. It's more like an interactive movie. If you combined the plots of every tom clancy novel ever written, you'd come close to the ridiculously in-depth plot of MG2. The actual game playing is awesome. Great graphics, sound, action, suspense, tactics, etc. But the movie watching outweighs the actual playing at least 3 to 1. They could have made such an incredible game, but used up most of the disc memory on movies and dialogue about 1 minor character being abandoned at home by another minor character. Save your money and play the PS1 version.
THIS GAME IS THE WORST!!!![....]

BEWARE GAMERS!!!![....]
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of LIberty is one of the worst games I have ever played!!!![....] The Cinema scenes are longer than the time you actually play, no exaggeration!!!![....]I was playing it the other day at my friends house, and I put on my timer. I was at the part where you have to sneak past those marine troops, and finally got past there! Of course I didn't want to miss anything, so I watched the cinema scenes, and time d it, because I knew the other ones were really long, and wanted to see how long this particular cinema scene would last. And guess howe long the cinema scenes were?............ ALMOST TOPPED 30 MINUTES!!!![....]the long cinema scenes ruin the whole game! I'm sick of that game, I was so close to breaking the game!!!![....]

Boy...what a dissapointment!! There is very little gameplay throughout...It's a good thing I purchased Halo (finally a game with graphics, muscle, sound, and most importantly GAMEPLAY) for the X-Box over Christmas!!! MGS2 should've been the Halo for PS2, but ended up as interesting as studying about anthills in the plains of South Dakota.
Metal gear solid 2 - the worst game ever.

Ha - only joking. I do not mean it - I t deserves 5 stars (that was just to get your attention. This game is brilliant, amazing, and other superlatives which sound good. If you've played (and enjoyed) the demo then as soon as you get past killing Olga, the game really gets going... It gets so good. It's a pit that Snake is only there for a while, but Raiden is just as good (he is brilliant with a knife) and he adds new twists to the story. And wow...What an ending.
