This is one of those games that you look thirty or so years down the road, and its going for 100 bucks a pop on eBay. Final Fantasy encompasses everything that a final fantasy title should, and still manages to innovate, thus making the game completely different in every aspect from the last. It is impossible to truly explain all this game has to offer in the 1,000 word maximum, but here's my best shot.
Since telling the storyline to all you readers would ruin the fun, I will tell you about some of the better features. there is a new method of leveling up your character, and there really are no levels at all. you are given sphere levels, which can then be traded for a move on the huge sphere grid. The grid is somewhat like a giant maze, with each stop containing a sphere. These spheres can contain defense power ups. strength power ups, and even be blank so that you can fill them in with your own choice of defense, strength, luck, and so forth.
Tidus is the star player of the local Blitz ball team, the Zanarkand Abes. Blitz ball is a game played inside of a suppenended ball of water, and is somewhat like soccer in its idea, but then again is completely different. A whole set of rules has been made for this game, and you actually play through it to gain items. This shows off a theme that has carried through most final fantasy titles, mini games. You can play blitz ball, race chocobos (a type of large, rideable bird), and countless other time consuming mini games
in conclusion, this is only the very tip of the iceberg. There are countless things to be said on this epic game. The storyline is top notch, and there are countless things to unlock. Pick it up as a rental first, many people don't like the turn based action this game has (although it only helps you toward strategizing as best you can.) If you love the game, as i think you will, buy it, its only 20 dollars, and you will get tons of play out of it (i have about 35 hours on mine and im no where near done!)
A Masterpiece!

This is my all-time favorite video game, ever! I am a big lover of role-playing games and this one awed, amazed and obsessed me! You can't tell the difference between the cut scenes and the game animation, the game engine is so good. And the plot pulls you in and intrigues you, never mind all the surprises in it! The characters are all well developed, the animation scenes are beautiful, all the art is georgeous.
The fighting and leveling system took a while to get used to, but now I like it very much! Some people don't like the turn-based fighting system, but I find that it adds complexity and strategy to the game, two things I like very much.
The depth of the game - the fact that every time you come back through a level, there is more to discover, more secrets, more hidden games or weapons, I think that is one of the coolest things!
After playing Zelda: Windwaker, there is only one thing I would like to see added to this game - the ability to see and avoid your enemies. As far as comparing the two, I like Final Fantasy just a tad bit better, becasue the game is just so beautiful. Zelda looks foolish, even if the game play is good.
I can't wait to see the next next Final Fantasy, I hope they make the sequal!
Another breakthrough since FF7

Great Story line and action. The best part about this game is the action and control. I loved the fact that you can switch out chracters during battle.
The only problem that barely registers is the Grid to build your character attributes. You might want to get the manual and take a look at how to improve your character's attributes.
Great game.

I just need to get this off my chest. Numero Uno, "Final Fantasy VII" is the best of the series, far outdistancing this game despite the better graphics etc...
... ... I could go on and on. This game is flat out wimpy. If you're a FF Fanatic and buy this game, you'll be sorry you didn't take my advice...
Not the best by a long shot.

With a hugely absorbing plot and some beautifully-executed, long-overdue in-game enhancements, 'Final Fantasy X' ought to have been the standard-bearing Mega-Game that we all expected it to be.
Sadly, thanks in no small part to a VERY limiting control system and very little room for gameplay freedom, FF X instead descends into the Bargain Bin of Pretty Games Sans Substance.
Players control a young man named Tidus, a blond-haired juvenile-voiced Blitzball player, who, after his city is attacked by an evil force called Sin, his guardian Auran takes him to another world to uncover his heritage and save the universe from Sin. From there you get to recruit bigger and better players and there is, as always, a multitude of nice extras and side-quests that. in theory, add colour and excitement to the game.
First, the good points. The graphics are astounding, with large, beautifully-detailed characters and bad guys maintaining a very impressive frame-rate on-screen. Music is fairly standard FF fare, stirring battle tunes and o-so-sweet ballady tracks adding much atmosphere to the proceedings. The voice acting has been unfairly criticised, it's good, and a hugely welcome change from endless reams of text to wade through. It's also easier to remember plot points when you hear them, and there's no danger of skipping over them with a Cancel button. However, this is customisable, and you can have the audio with or without subtitles.
The plot, on paper, is one of the best FF plots around - detailed and complex, without being confusing, it's the stuff of solid games legends.
Unfortunately, though, none of these points can save FF X from the in-game mechanics, and this is where FF X fails badly. The shrines and cityscapes of FF X are beautifuly detailed and bear exploring, and the fact that one can learn the language of Al Bhed are excellent points, both worthy of exploring at one's leisure. However, thanks to the hugely restrictive game-on-rails nature of FF X, it's oftentimes impossible to go where you want to go, or to prepare for the bigger battles. This affects the storyline, too, as major events for the first part of the game are few and far between, and so fighting beasties to build up your levels becomes such a chore.
Plodding along, you very quickly get a sense of not having much to do with the game itself, that you're just there to watch events unfold and press the X button intermittently. And for some gamers, that's fine, but aftermagnificent titles like FF VII and FF IX, it's not really good enough for a FF sequel. Also, Blitzball is possibly one of the most over-complicated side quests ever, really worthy of being a game in itself.
A disappointment that could so very easily have been an unequivocal classic, FF X is really a rent-before-you-buy title.
Final Fantasy has done it again!

I'm not going into the storyline, becuase it will obivously spoil it for those who haven't had the oppurtunity to play this excellent game. Final Fantasy X is the first game in the Final Fantasy Series to be released on the playstation 2.
The graphics here are sharp and crisp, no fuzzness or distortions. Voice actors actually do a good job, doesn't sound like those old kung-fu movies where the tone of the voices] don't match the person's appearnace. Battle system is simple to use and they offer tutorials within the menu in case you're still confused.
I'm really pleased with the results and I can see myself playing this game over and over again.
my love

I'm sorry, but I just don't enjoy RPGs the way I used to. I love the stories, it's just that spending 50-70 hours raising numbers...fighting frogs, insects...my time is precious.
Final Fantasy X has deep rooted religious themes that make its characters believable, and there isn't an extraneous one. I neglected it because blitzball and Tidus were turn-offs, and thought this game was a step backward for Square-before even finishing it. I still think the initial presentation for this game could have been less flashy, and more substantial in how they introduce their characters: Tidus is a star blitzball player; okay...and? There are lots of atheletes that play actual sports in our own world. I'm not interested.
The world of Spira then opens up as Tidus is sent from Zanarkand through Sin. In Spira, every ten years, Sin appears, and a Yevon summoner must sacrifice his or her life to destroy it and bring the people a ten year Calm. At the end of every Calm, Sin comes back. This doesn't actually sound like they are destroying Sin at all, yet something has to be done about it.
When a fellow blitzball player named Wakka discovers Tidus drifting in from the sea, he enlists him in the Besaid Aurochs for his last game of Blitzball before becoming a full-time Summoner's guardian. That's when this game's savior, I mean Legendary Guardian, Sir. Auron, appears. The reason this character is so important to me is because he helps shape the message of the story: life can be difficult. But it is life. You can pretend to run away, but at some point you have to face reality as it stands, either by fighting, or retreating into ultimate obscurity.
The graphics are sensational. Hey, it's Square!
The music is the same. Hey, it's Uematsu!
With all that said, if you like professional RPG style gaming, FMVs, music and story, you need look no further than Final Fantasy X by SquareEnix.
A must have and a 10 out of 10.
Excellent game

Many people seem to have negative thoughts about Final Fantasy X, and I think thats because they compare it to previous Final Fantasy games. If you judge it as just a game, not part of a series, you'll find it doesn't get much better.
Graphics are amazing really, considering it was a very early PS2 title. The cutscenes are really quite unbelievable, I don't think I've seen better yet. The characters and settings are also done very well. Occasionally you get a scene where it seems a little sketchy, but thats probably just in contrast to the rest of the stellar graphics.
Sound and music is also very well done, the music is very fitting and memorable. No complaints here. The voice acting makes a huge difference in the stories impact. Theres occasional scenes that seem awkward, but they certainly don't detract much from the quality.
Storyline can only be described as "epic", although I must admit I liked the first half of the game (up to Guadosalem) much better then the second. Characters were all very well done and very likeable.
The game takes around 50 hours to complete I'd say, not to short, but not too painfully long, and I think it makes a much better experience to take your time instead of rushing through it. I thought the difficulty of the game was right on. There was plenty of boss battles and parts of the game that will take you a couple of tries to beat, but at the same time never gave you that feeling of hopelessness.
Overall, its my favorite game of all time so far, all systems. Need I say more?
Best Game Ever

The final fantasy games are by far the best games ever. They provide a rich storyline, in-depth characters, and hardcore RPG action. If you don't have a ps2 go buy one because this game will make it all worth it. If you bought Xbox well your (...), unless you are happy with one good game (HALO)for the rest of your systems life. Gamecube is ok but it doesn't have any FF. This game is all worth the [price]. hell think of it as a $ an hour. Yes, thats right this game has over 50 hours of gameplay. So what are you waiting for..GO OUT AND BUY THIS GAME!!!!
