ugh... first off I'm not a kid. I Just don't wanna waste any more time with amazon than this review. and for me to be wasting time on this review, its surely not a waste at all. At least not for this review. Its absolutely a breathtaking game.

Alright, I bought this game when it came out and still play it today. How can an RPG like Final Fantasy be that replayable you might ask? The story. Oh my goodness... I am a movie buff, am obsessed with movies and how they were made, etc. But nevermiond that, I can watch a movie many times over and over, if the story is adequate. This game is sort of like a big movie. Now I have played this game for over 120 hours, on 3 different games. I can't get enough of it, the plot, how the characters are developed, and how heart wrenching the relationships, the irony, and how the world is tearing apart this couple, Tidus and Yuna. The world of Spira is almost like a current government, with its corruption, lies and deceit. But when you sit down and play this, It truly does emerse you in another world. The music is also spectacular. I could listen to it for hours, its calmin and very well orchestrated. I'm not sure if this review will help people who haven't played the game, but just know it is the best game I have ever played. I play a lot of games... but this one holds a special place in my heart, and it always will. You will be able to pick up how to play very quickly, just remember to include all your characters in every battle for maximum xp. And what I think is the most important thing about a game, which I always look for in a review is replayability, which I mentioned. Theres tons of hidden items and mini games THAT ARE POSSIBLE; unlike some other games where those type of things are extremely difficult. So to sum this all up for you, It's a fantastic game reccomended to all. You need this game, trust me.

Final Fantasy X

In the most classic and richest sense, Final Fantasy X encapsulates the struggle between a domineering father and a strengthening son; only Kafka put to paper a better interpretation of this theme, yet FFX is the inverse of The Metamorphosis: instead of a son finding himself having become a beetle upon waking, subsequently locked away in his room, fed by his sister, mourned by his mother, and despised, even feared, by his father, the creators of FFX have transformed the father into a monstrous entity simply referred to as Sin who punishes the towns and people of the futuristic world of Spira, hoping that one day his son, who he (Sin) has transported 1,000 years into the future, will defeat him and throw an apple into the back of his misery.
You assume the role of Tidus, a professional blitzball player from the past, who is seeking to find his way home, if he can, to Zanarkand, a city destroyed by Sin. Tidus quickly befriends a group of guardians who are escorting a Summoner, Yuna, on her pilgrimage through Spira at the end of which she hopes to defeat Sin. The game's quest follows a pretty linear path.

Each character of the game possesses the ability to go into overdrive mode after taking so many attacks. Initiating an effective overdrive attack isn't as simple as just pushing (X) and watching the lightshow. Nope. With characters like Auron, your truly bad-ass fighter (reminds me of Cid from previous installments of FF), you need to perform button combinations within a set amount of time. Depending on how well (or lucky) you are, the amount of damage inflicted increases. You quickly obtain most of your party. This includes: a mage, Lulu, another blitzball player, surfer-boy, Wakka, Kimahri, Yuna's guardian since birth, and eventually Rikku, an Al-Bhed (three races/faiths in the game: Guado, Yevon, & Al-Bhed), and of course Auron, Tidus' quasi-stepfather.

I don't want to spend a lot of time discussing the graphics, since it's a given they're going to be pretty damn good. Your world is a complete 3D environment. In fact, you don't have a world-view map that you wander through-be this a good thing or a bad thing depends on who you are. Your characters are richly colored (almost reminiscent of Chrono Cross) and actually have voice-overs for their dialogue; yep this is new to the series. Luckily, the acting is as bad as most games out there. And you're going to swear Wakka reminds you of one of the characters out of Shenmue.

Abilities are handled in a completely new way. As a player, you're now able to determine kind of the path your character is going to take. This is done through a system coined Sphere Grid. At the end of each battle, your characters can earn Sphere levels as well as different types of Spheres (mana, power, speed, ability, etc.). The Sphere Grid is this table of interconnected, unfilled spheres that contain different attributes. You spend Sphere Levels to move across the grid and place Spheres in empty spaces to obtain more attributes, skills, or spells. Now, this isn't as easy as going in a straight line; rather, there are times when you're going to need to back-track to gain abilities or raise HP/MP. It's best that you plan ahead before spending your Sphere Levels because once you've spent them you're stuck until you get more.

As an aside, the game offers the chance to play blitzball from any save point (that is once you've earned this ability). Blitzball is basically a side-diversion, since there are really no side-quests per se. The game also offers you the ability to recruit Blitzball players for your team, the Aurochs. I really didn't spend too much time with this, since the Blitzball matches are pretty primitive

One of my long-standing complaints about the Final Fantasy series has been how encounters are handled. In previous installments, battles took a considerable amount of time to initiate and complete. Square has quickened this process up some, but you still have those random encounters that can become infuriating if you're not into fighting for every step you take. A decent job has been done at tapering this some. It feels as if a lot of work went into integrating your battles into the actual story of the game. Forget wandering around until you've leveled up enough to continue in the game.

As far as RPG titles for the PS2 go, this is another owner; however, I must put forth that the game time is significantly lower than previous installments. It's also not as in-depth as previous Final Fantasy titles. To me it feels like Square is getting its feet wet on the PS2, but not completely jumping in. That's unfortunate, as so much could have been done with the world of Spira. One plus, however, is that FFX resembles some of the colorful traits of Chrono Cross-at least, this was a plus for me. The game feels like an RPG designed and drawn by a surfer in California or Hawaii. Final Fantasy X is another trendsetter for the platform. We see Square push through a decent storyline--albeit linear-- and introduce us to another lovely world with intensely archetypical characters; however, it remains plainly simple compared to some of its predecessors, especially last year's Final Fantasy IX, which was a nice return to the original theme of the series.

I REALLY got into this game. Took me a while to finish it but thats what I liked about it. I loved the story, and the charicters, and basicly everything about it. I was SO exited when the X-2 came out, but it wasn;t nearly as good as this 1. I give mad props to the game

Wow Square Enix has done it again!

I have two words to discribe this game: Freakin. Awesome.

It is the next installment in the ever popluar Playstation series, "Final Fantasy". It is a defining game for the PS2 and a must have for any PS2 owner. It has a little bit of everything, battles, romance, sports (blitzball), and all sorts of interesting characters. This was my first Playstation videogame ever, and I think this is a great starter game. The graphics are beautiful and the plot is fascinating. Granted the voice-overs are somewhat...pathetic, it is still a 5 star game! Also you deefinatly want to buy the direct sequel Final Fantasy X-2. Plus buying the 'BradyGames' game guide is a worth while purchase if you want to beat the game.

I've played the demo and eventhough its only about 20 min long, I'm addicted to it. This is a gaming experience no one should miss. X-box and Gamecube owners-buy a PS2 and get Final Fantasy X!

This game is awsome. It makes the Xbox look like the original nintendo. The graphics are top of the line, the gameplay is the best i have ever seen for a game. Even in the battle scenes the world around you, like Sammy Sosa says, its sooooooooooooo real. You dont have to sit around and wait for an hour to actually play the game like some of the other ps2 games. It is easily a 50 hr game, nevermind all the side missions and games. My favorite FF was 7 up until i played this game. It is totally worth the 50 dollars that i spent on it. Im not sure if they could have made a better game. If you have an xbox sell it and buy a PS2. You wont regret it.

The best of the RPG of all time

This game is the only reason that I bought the Ps2,It's kicks the X-box and Gamecubes A*% because it has the beast graphics of all time. Sqaure has done it again, square has all ways made the best RPG like FF5,FF6,FF7,FF8,and FF9, with voice overs it makes the game even funner if you don't like RPG you'll like FFX.
In the game it starts with the gang around a camp fire and they talk about the past, that's when the games start. This games also has the best fmv or CG,also they included a new battle type like swicthing a character out of the battle and telling the bosse's weakness so you can know what attack you should do instead of attacking aimmlessly should I say more,SO GO GET IT

In between cutscenes, Square forgot to include the game.

Argh...As much as it hurts to say, I felt this game was the end of the venerable Final Fantasy series (thankfully XII revived the series somewhat). Where the previous games encourage exploration with loads of optional areas and scads of sidequests ( i.e. the elemental Dragons in VI, The big materia, WEAPON, and Chocobo raising in VII).

There are a great many things wrong with this alleged "game".
Just to fire a few off, there's the irritating, unlikeable protagonist, his irritating, unlikeable cohorts, the one cool character in the game is also absent for quite awhile, and then there's the lame point A to point B 'exploration'. This game is essentially a long walk from one end of the world to the other, with plenty of those wonderful random battles in between. I never felt involved with the character, and I never had much of a reason to care about them.

In addition, there are the puzzles. Now, the FF series has had a few really magnificent puzzles (Shinra mansion, cough, cough) These puzzles are in fact less puzzling and more frustrating as you...pick up orbs...and place them in slots! Wow! For 1979 that would be groundbreaking, for the 21st century, it's shameful.

On the plus side, the graphics are pretty. Unfortunately the character designs are sub par, and the non-main characters have about as mych detail as the German soldiers in Medal of Honor for the PS1.

The music is mostly pretty good, with "Zanarkand", the opening theme, being pretty much the high point.

I never bothered finishing this game. It felt like a big waste of my time, and if time is precious to you, don't waste 40 hours on this. Not quite money well spent.
