Why does Square think we don't want to have fun?
Honestly. The company turned a corner with FF7, deciding to concentrate on realism to the exclusion of entertainment value. Well, they haven't achieved realism by any measure (the graphics are still unexpressive and the voice acting wooden), their stories have become incomprehensible (FFX isn't much better than Xenogears or FFTactics), and the characters just about dare you to enjoy their company. Who in this game is supposed to be likeable? Or cool? Or sexy, even?
It's hard to say. I would love a complex and subtle RPG, but you cannot afford to be subtle unless you first know how not to be *lifeless*, which Square apparently does not. The full voicing completes the process of draining the characters of energy, making them sound even dumber than they look and act. FFX is a huge chess game where you don't know the players and don't understand the rules...and *never* figure it out.
This installment also takes away the world map, meaning that you have just about no choice in what section to play -- were any of us clamoring for this change? No. Nor did we care to lose the method of running from battles that dates back to the SNES; the encounter rate is ridiculous and getting out of battles is *hard*. Other demerits -- the music is Uematsu's worst effort to date (exactly one memorable tune, and it's not even a cool one), weapons and armor are incredibly hard to upgrade, and dungeons are tough to navigate even with an onscreen map.
The pluses -- blitzball is a terrific minigame and it's great to be able to use the entire party in a single battle (something I've wanted for years). That's about it. This is a game from which you should stay far, far away...even if you, like me, started playing the FF series with the first game.

Yes I will, lacked human desire and emotion. So what if ##@##@ Dies and yada yada yada. Could have had better development of characters.

What a waste of time. I absolutely hated how the game switches to a movie format ALL THE TIME with me having nothing to do but sit there and watch and if i want to watch a movie i will rent one. I finally just thought "I hate this".

I can't believe how many people think this game is the BEST!
I bought it thinking I was in for a treat like the last three games for the psx,..NOooooooooo...I was wrong!!
the graphics shake! in most of the FMV scenes the people look like they have Parkinsons! (watch the opening sequence, when they are all sitting by the fire, when the guy puts his hand on her shoulder, he is shaking, and so is she!) and there isnt really much control over your characters, the sphere system sucks its a random thing to upgrade your characters, who came up with this system?....and the Blitzball game helped further my hate for this game, this is an RPG, not a SPORTS game? but the final straw was the sphere puzzles...CMON! Awful! and the game was not inventive enough to make you figure things out for yourself...everything happens according to script.....
the story was o.k..but all in all....lets hope the hype for the next game is right on.....
the only good things about the game was the packaging, and a few characters were kind of cool...but the whole blitzball thing was Awful! lets hope they add characters in the next game that are parkinsons free huh? this game got a 1 but would give it a -1 but the system won't allow it..
save your money, buy 7,8,9 if you have to..those are good games!
One of the WORST RPG's I've ever played.

Do not buy this game! I mean it is linear and they don't even do a good enough of a job with the story for you not to care that this game is linear. I mean the whole game is go here do that, this happens deal with it, oh look now we are here. The main character was so annoying. I mean it was so lame Yuna and "HIM" The battle system and [was not good] although i did like the summoning system better than all to date. This is a disgrace of a FF game. SquareSoft just said ok we're done with what should have been only 25% or less of the story and decided to start work on FFXI. I doubt I will buy another FF game ever. I found myself throughout the entire game waiting and waiting for there to be more to the story than what was being showed to you but it stayed that shallow the entire time. And then the ending I mean come on that doesn't even deserve a rating on a scale from 1 to 100. FFX IS ONE OF THE IF NOT THE WORST RPG I'VE EVER PLAYED. Don't play it.
What? I can't pick zero stars?

Not to offend the fanboys of the final fantasy series, but this game is not an RPG in the slightest way. It's pretty to look at, and yes it has a storyline, but you don't really get to play a role. Any real RPG fan out there will hate this game; it has very little in the way of interactivity. You watch a movie, you fight, movie, fight, movie, fight . . . The game is horrid.

Of all the videogame genre's I've played I could never understand the popularity of rpgs. Why you ask? it's simple. I hate turn based games. In fact I wonder why there are so many positive reviews for the most boring, time consuming game of all time. final fantasy x is not a game, but a slightly interactive movie. Why watch animated characters talking when real people are much more interesting. For those of you who like this game you know nothing of real entertainment. The point of a videogame is to play not watch. But this really goes to all rpgs what is so fun about taking turns hitting each other. If you want real entertainment stop playing rpgs and start playing real time games. I recommend grand theft auto 3 and/or max payne.

Hi
If ur a ff fan looking for a good game x is not good at all it took me almost 72h to beat this game all the really did with it is cut out the summoning out of all the guys but one and the story line pretty much stinks the the movie they mad and the ending is a real peace they kill off tidus and aron for a reason but a stuped one at that in my opinon they have taken this game to a hole so far down thAt it would never come back out of unless they combined both styels of the game
