Zelda Rules...Again!

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is such a perfect game. When I heard that a new zelda sequel was coming out, I was afraid that it would have a hard time living up to the greatness of the other zelda games, but I was definitely proven wrong.

First of all, the world which you explore is gorgeous. Ever felt like exploring a fairy-tale forest of elf-children? What about a cavern that lies behind a magical waterfall, or maybe a sunny medieval marketplace, or how about an adobe desert fortess, or even a simple peaceful mountain village? It's all in Zelda 64.

The gameplay itself is awesome. Link is easy to control, and the 3-D motion of the game is great. The challenge level is perfect too. I played the game without a strategy guide, and I'll admit the infamous Water Temple took me seven days to beat, but the puzzles are respectably challenging and you feel great when you solve them. The bosses are also nicely challenging; it's rare to beat them on the first try. Also, you have a wide variety of weapons and items to find along the way, and there are plenty of extra-hard side quests for the hardcore zelda players, like the never-ending quest to kill those elusive skulltullas, or the always-present goal of finding all the heart containers.

The music is great too. New themes such as the bouncy new Lost Woods theme, the sultry Gerudo Valley (gotta love those castanets and Spanish guitar), or the relaxing massage-for-the-ears Zora's Domain join the soundtrack in addition to old favorites from SNES' "A Link to the Past", like Zelda's Lullaby, the Fairy's Fountain theme, the Ganon theme, and Kakariko Village.

My only two small and pointless complaints with the game are that you can't go in the majestic Hyrule Castle, and the recognizable classic Zelda themesong was left out. However, the new overworld theme is cheerful and catchy too, and after a few minutes into it the careful listener can hear the first few notes of the old zelda theme woven into the new one, a subtle homage to the game's historical predecessors.

Basically, the game is a masterpiece. My friend has the sountrack and we always listen to the songs to cheer up, especially the "Shop" theme :) And when we think about the final scene in the ending of the game, we always cry! Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time sets the standard for a quality video game. You're sure to love it!

This is undoubtably the best game I have ever played. Everything everyone says above is true. Fantastic graphics, game-play, story, character development, mystery, suspense. You name it. I'm a computer graphics pro - I know a good thing when I see it.

OK, someone has to say what the negatives are. I am a very busy 47 year old computer professional. I rarely, if ever, have more than a few minutes to play a video game any more these days. I got this game for my 12 year old daughter, but one day decided to try it out for myself.

BANG! I was hooked within the hour. I had to finish the game. Over the next two months (yes, it is THAT DEEP), I spent hundreds of hours, well into the wee hours of the night, playing this game. I would spend 4 to 8 hours at a stretch. I pulled two all-nighters, not even realizing what time it was, till I noticed the sun coming up (haven't done that since I was in college). I was totally consumed and addicted to this game, and had to finish no matter what the cost. My work suffered, my sleep suffered, and I was probably lucky not to make myself sick.

I have instructed my wife and daughter to NEVER BUY another game like this again. I can't afford that much of a distraction again!

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Once again, Hyrule is being threatened by the forces of evil! As Link, the chosen hero you solve countless puzzels, and fight many, many, monsters! This game has about everything! Good graphics, great gameplay, and a wonderful story.
Ganondorf, the evil in the game, needs to get the tree spiritual stones to open the Tempe of Time. He threatened the people who have them, but they didn't give him the stones. Link goes on quests to get the tree stones. Once he gets them and Zelda, the princess, gives him the Ocarina of Time, he opens the Temple of Time. But little does he know, Ganondorf followed him.
Seven years later link wakes up and Ganondorf rules Hyrule. He spreaded five of the six medallions and had monsters gaurd them. You get the only medallion Ganondorf didn't have and go on a quest to find the others.
This game is great and has a wonderful selection of weapons and other things. I highly recommend it and for anyone who has a Nintendo 64, get this game for your 64 collection isn't complete without it.

For his birthday, my brother got Ocarina Of Time and we shared. I rated it inside my head: Graphics:10 Gameplay: 10 Sounds: 8.5 Fun:10 If I could, on this review I would put 6 stars for Zelda. The graphics are smooth, the gameplay is simple but hard, it puts up a good competition, and you receive a surplus of weapons including the Slingshot, the Hookshot, the Kokiri Sword, the Ocarina, a bow and arrows, and, of course, the Master Sword. You play in two different times: when Link is young, and when Link is a grown man. There are ten bosses which you must defeat in order to gain certain items. The main boss is Ganondorf. He, however, is not your last foe in the game. "Who is?" you may ask. Well, if I told you, it wouldn't be any fun, would it? I can only guarentee that you will spend some time on the last two foes. If you like the Zelda series, you should consider buying this game. I have played many Zelda games and the only game that comes close to it is Legend of Zelda: Link To The Past. And watch for Ocarina Of Time's sequal, Majora's Mask, this holiday season.

Zelda returns, and boy what a homecoming!

This game makes and breaks ALL expectations that one can have for it. There are VERY few ninendo fans who DO NOT like the "Legend of Zelda" series, and the long awaited N64 version debuted last Christmas.

I really don't want to give away a single bit of the plot, so I'll have to talk about the interface and play control, not to mention graphics.

First of all, the graphics are stupendous. The three dimensional playing field is absolutely perfect for a Zelda game. The game pays very close attention to detail, and is VERY hard to pull yourself off of.

The play control takes only a few minutes to get used to. The new "Z targeting" system allows you to fire objects like arrows and the hookshot quite easily, and also gives you the brand new feature of link ducking, dodging, jumping, and rolling to avoid enemies. The story is easy to follow, but not lacking in depth or character. And the buetiful soundtrack tops it off, with a triumphant fanfare playing on the field during the day (yes, the DAY! There is even a sense of TIME in this game! More monsters will attack you when the sun goes down). This fanfare, when listened to by Zelda fans, will remind them of that old Zelda music that is synonimous with fantasy and action. Also, the ability to ride a horse to get around the main field is a fun attraction to the game.

Allow yourself to get immersed in this EPIC. And just wait for its sequel. (Entitled "Zelda Gaiden", or "Zelda's Sequel" in Japaneese). This game may have you stomping your foot at times, but it is sure to give you hours upon ours of Zelda caliber fun!

The best video game ever made! - name your daughter Zelda!

I got out of rpg game playing at around age 16-17, dissociating myself from computer-nerd-dom -- opting instead for snobby artist-dom... but when my brother bought this game for N64 last year, my faith in rpgs was forever restored. How do I love this game? permit me to list the ways...

(1) it's LONG-- you get a LOT of play time for your money...

(2) it's entertaining... if you get stuck, you can always find something ELSE to do in the game; there's never really any moments where you have to pound your head on the wall for a week to keep playing

(3) it's versatile-- this game let's you control your character in never-before-thought-of ways, which leads to a level of super-realism unlike anything I've seen yet from Nintendo

(4) it becomes your WORLD-- after playing this for a week, you'll want to name your daughter Zelda... the game creates a sort of 'ideal reality' for you-- when there's danger, you actually feel threatened, when it's dark, you believe it's night, when you dive underwater, you find yourself actually holding your breath, when it rains, you find a puddle next to your TV...

(5) it's fun and funny-- it has the best qualities of many Japanese 'art-style' video games, with very few up the not-so-good qualities- no twisted sappyness (for the most part), nothing to annoy you, just good fun

(6) it's got great graphics, wonderful sound, and runs/loads quite fast and smoothly

(7) it's a great social game... even if you're not actually manipulating Link yourself, just watching the game is entertaining (a lot better than most TV, I'll wager) -- people will flock to your television set!

(8) this game's gonna be worth a LOT someday as a collector's item, trust me... consider buying it an INVESTMENT... especially at Amazon.com's cheaper-than-in-stores price...

(9) my brother and I thought it would be cool if a Zelda-themepark were created that perfectly mimics the geography of the game... that's how great it is... you'd WANT to live there

(10) I recommend it!

Buy now if you don't already have this... you won't ever ever be sorry you did!

The Ocarina of Time

In technical terms, The Ocarina of Time is simply outstanding. The graphics are smooth, detailed and at times are photo realistic. I always say that it isn't how good the graphics are, but what you do with them that counts; The Ocarina of time does not fall down in this area thats for sure! Some of the sequences are simply amazing. The sound in Ocarina is even more amazing, and if you appreciate good music than this game is for you. For a nice piece of music, go to the Lost Woods. Now that i have talked about the technical aspects of the game, it is time to tell you about some of Zelda's less apparent features. Ocarina of Time's great strength is in it's superb control system. The first of these features is in the form of the A-Button. At the top right of the screen, there is a blue circle representing the A-Button. As you do move about, the circle changes, telling you what will happen when you press the button. Push, attack, talk and open are some of the things that the icon will read. The second is Auto-Jump. When Link hits the edge of something, he will jump automatically, depending on how fast he was moving. The last major control feature comes in the form of Z-Targeting. During the game, yellow, green and blue arrows will appear above objects; yellow for monsters, green for objects and blue for people. By pressing the Z-Trigger on the controler, you will automatically target the object. Z-Targeting's most useful use is for targetting your missile weapons. The control system is one of Zelda's many strengths, and combined with it's graphics, sound and rich game world it turns The Ocarina of Time into a real winner. Even if you don't love this game, you still won't hate it, and this is reason enough for you to by it.

GRAPHICS 98% SOUND 97% GAMEPLAY 95%

OVERALL 97% The most perfect game ever. If you own a Nintendo 64 you must have this.

It's really not wise to compare Zelda to intricate games like the Final Fantasy series. Zelda is in a different category. I myself am an avid fan of the Final Fantasy games. The reason these two can't actually be compared, in my opinion, is because they are two completely different ways of playing RPG. Whereas Zelda is made simple in the way of attacking and concentrates on the puzzle solving part of the game to advance the plot, the FF games concentrate on the ability to choose how you defeat the puzzles. FF becomes more RPG by giving you different methods of attack and different ways to advance the story. FF games give you a variety of graphics with the different methods of attack techniques the characters develop. In Zelda, Link is limited to his sword, hook, bow and arrow, sling shot, and very limited magic powers. He doesn't learn Limit Breaks or Magic Spells. Zelda gives you one way, and one way only to solve puzzles, and if you can't solve it, your stuck with buying an official guide. I would hope that no one else tries to compare these two different ends of the spectrum in RPG fun.

Zelda is unique in that it gives a sense of time. Although that really does not mean anything in the advancement of the game, this sense is a nice little extra addition that makes the game fun. The graphics are good if you can accept a rather cartoonish and somewhat unrealistic look of people and creatures (this comment is geared more to those who are just jumping in to the series). I have no problem with this because I know that it's a fantasy game and people aren't supposed to look like people. Zelda will entertain you and make you think. If you're up to this, by all means, get the game all ready! If you don't like it, then try something more simple like Mario or Frogger.

The games is ultimately fun, and can give you hours of entertainment in one sitting...just don't forget to go to the bathroom--the game CAN be paused. But it's understandable if you don't want to.

The best game in all of time: Zelda!

Alright, potential buyers and critics alike, you have stumbled upon the standard of video game entertainment, The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time. This game was one of the first on the N64, and it still remains the best. It has shared "best game ever" with no game except for Goldeneye 007. If you are looking for fun, challenges, excellent graphics, humour, music, cut scenes, or just a good time, The Ocarina of Time is the one for you!

Never has there been such diversity in a game. Players will experience a bounding adventure that will keep them on the edge of their seats.

Play control is at its best in Zelda 64. From climbing to swinging the Megaton Hammer, all controls are fluid and easy to use. Items and weapons in use are shown at the top of the screen in the shape of their corresponding buttons. This game has an easy learning curve.

The first time I played the game, I was mesmerized by its depth. It has a solid, easy to follow story line. Link must travel the vast land of Hyrule in order to save princess Zelda. Along the way, he meets up with thousands of charming (and not so charming) characters.

Zelda 64 also produces the major evolution of the camera angles in a 3D, non-turn-based fight. The view enables you to see your enemies from just beyond link's back. It swings when a critical move or step must be taken. The whole "Z Targeting" thing is very easy to learn also.

The graphics are unparallel to any game in its genre. For a game that was made in the opening year of the N64, and without an Expansion Pak, the graphics are clear and polished. The only exception is the Market, where the buildings are somewhat blurry. But hey, that's just one of ten thousand places you could be in Hyrule!

There are 3 game save slots for your convenience. A HUGE memory capacity within the cartridge (265 megabytes) mean you won't need a memory card and you will enjoy the easier saving method.

Another overlooked fact (especially from PSX players) is that Zelda: The Ocarina of Time is loaded with cut scenes. I don't care what the PSX has to offer, because nothing compares to the dramatic and sometimes shocking cut scenes that can be none other than Nintendo. Honestly. It isn't flashy graphics (but this game is loaded with them, hee hee) that make the game, it's the content. And when it comes to the opening horse scene, you realize that there are no better.

This game also has the most memorable ending sequences. Be sure to keep watching it though, because it is LONG.

All in all, Zelda will provide you with countless hours of entertainment for the whole family. Parents will be pleased that there is a fair amount of reading and puzzle solving to do, too. Oh, and one quick tip. If you have Surround sound, be sure to play with it. It seems like you're really there!

I ask, no, I PLEAD that you buy this game. If you do, you will be investing in both a masterpiece of technology and a legacy. A legacy that is.... ZELDA!

Still the best 3 years later! A masterpiece with NO rival!

Just the thought of this game makes me smile, and I know I'm not the only person who holds it in such high regard. Now that Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been out for about three years (it was released in August of 1998, I believe), it is still regarded by many gamers and game-developers alike as the best videogame ever made. Why so much praise for "just another adventure game," you ask? Let me explain...

1)the Gameplay: Controlling Link (the game's lead character, although you can assign him any name you want at the start of the game) is an absolute joy, as the controls are super-intuitive and responsive. The various attacks that you can perform with your main weapon (a sword) are easy to pull off and manuevering Link around the game's three-dimensional fantasy world (named Hyrule) is equally as entertaining, thanks to many helpful features such as the "auto-jump" (don't worry, it works great).

Since most will agree that gameplay is the most important factor, I'll be brief with the other features of the game: 2)Graphics: They're still gorgeous (albeit a tad blurry--don't blame the game, blame the Nintendo64!), even next to newer games on newer systems such as the PlayStation2. The world of Hyrule comes to life with colorful graphics that are cartoony and light-hearted one moment, dark and frightening the next. 3)Music: fantastic music, amazing sound effects. 4)Story: The game's dialogue is not spoken (although Link does yell when you perform some attacks or when he's attacked), but the writing is packed with emotion and, at times, humour. Some of the characters you meet in the game say some very hilarious things. The game also has a FANTASTIC ending (more emotional than some movies).

I apologize for the length of this review. I meant to keep it short, but I just can't say enough good things about this game! To sum things up, let me just say that Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has affected my life (and the lives of many video game players) like no other game before. It is arguably the GREATEST videogame ever made, in any genre, for any system (I have nearly 20 game systems--including PlayStation 1 and 2 and all of the Sega systems--and hundreds of games, and I still rank this game #1). Don't listen to the Final Fantasy fanatics that say that those games are better, they're crazy! ALL Final Fantasy games (I have all of them and have beaten them) are absolute GARBAGE next to Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time! This is the game that you will still talk about in 10 years, the one that you'd want if you were stuck on an island (uh, if you had a television and electricity too). A final note to parents: this is a great game for kids (although it is very challenging), as the violence is minimal and very cartoony. Three years later and still the best! If you don't have this game in your collection, you are NOT true gamer!
