The year was 1995. I picked up an issue of GamePro in the grocery store. As I thumbed through the pages, I saw a little elven boy in green clothes. I immediately knew who that was. I then noticed the title of the section. "Zelda 64: The Making". I was like, 'Oh, man. This is gonna be awesome.' I couldn't wait for it to come out. It was a very long wait though. When Ocarina of Time came out in stores in 1998, I grabbed me a copy and ran it home. I was so excited to finally put it in my N64, I could barely breathe. I watched the spinning 'N' beside Nintendo 64 at the beginning. Then I watched the intro sequence, being careful not to press any buttons, for I did not want to skip anything. When it was over, I pressed Start. I named a file and began playing. I'll never forget how shocked I was when I took control of Link, making him run around Kokiri Forest, swinging his sword, rolling on the ground, etc. I have to admit that this game COMPLETELY exceeded my expectations. I expected it to be a great game. What I did NOT expect was the feeling that I was actually in the game, listening to the sounds of the forest and smelling the fresh air. And it only got better from there. This is truly the best game for the Nintendo 64. If you don't have it, you've GOT to buy it!! This game is an experience you'll never forget! About the rating: 5 stars doesn't even BEGIN to describe how good this game is.

I love Zelda. I love it. It's just great. Amazingly so. My first Zelda game was Link's Awaking for my little gameboy pocket. I played it for awhile, scoffed, and tossed it into some dark, forboding corner and never looked at it again. Not very reassuring, huh? Well, a long while ago, I saw Ocarine of time. It literally scared me. I figured it would take me weeks just to figure out how to play. Well, don't worry, it's not that complex. What it is, is one of the best games ever made. It throws you into a wide, detailed fantasy world. How detailed? Play it at night, in the summer, and wait for night to appear on the screen. turn out all your lights. With ingame crickets, stars, moon, and occasional owl, you'll feel like your outside and in the game with Link and Navi! Now, I'm one of those fantasy freaks, so when I could experience it for myself instead of reading it or watching some movie, I freaked. Not only are you in this fantasy world of swords, shields, monsters and bows, but it gives you almost total control of Link. To me it was like dumping gasoline on a match. The game itself plays on your imagination. The plot is... traditional, but the fact that your doing it, feeling it, it really doesn't matter. The puzzles aren't hard but are challenging. The enemies aren't tough but willl stick you if they are given the chance. The equipment is traditional and original ranging from Link's trademark, foriegn green tunic to his powerful Master sword. This game aslo lets you experience all this from to different views and heights by allowing you to play as short and stubby young Link to tall and powerful Link as a young adult (17). This game is amazing the first time you play it and will stun you the second time when you reexperience scenes and discover new corners to the vast world. But all this doesn't end well. Majora's Mask, Ocarine's predicesore, isn't as good. The game, all though loded with potential, was way to short and ended up... disapointingly. Don't get me wrong, it ain't bad, but I advise you play Ocarine first. Enjoy.
( Yes I did take my medication today, thank you very much)

The Game that Ended Videogames for Me

I remember playing this game for the first time during finals in my last year of college in Dec. 1998. I had been waiting for quite some time for it to come out and had anticipated it to be probably the best game ever made. Needless to say it completely blew me away. The sad thing is that since Ocarina of Time I have not been impressed with videogames as a whole. The main reason is that they lack the creative drive that was once fairly regular. Since 1999 I've played dozens of games on several systems and they all pale in comparison to the originality of thought and experience that went into the making of this game. It actually requires constructive thought which is practically non-existant in videogames. Furthermore after replaying OoT recently, I can definitively say that unless a major transformation occurs in the field of video game-making this game will not be topped any time soon. Sure developers can milk better graphics from newer systems and create a more sophisticated fighting engines, but these are all technological steps, and are not creative steps forward. To make a long story short this game sets the standard for innovation and creative thought, it ranks as high as the best books I have ever read and hands down the best videogame I have ever played. Its simply shameful that its been nearly five years, four videogame systems and nothing even comes close including its sequels.

Zelda: Greatest Game of Time

I absolutely loved Zelda: Ocarina of time. The puzzles are fun, yet frusterating at times. The puzzles don't have an obvious answer, they make you think. I also like the convenience of the horse and the the ability to warp. I also found talking to people fun, not boring. Talking to people can cause a reaction, give hints, and reward you. It's also neat how they never say the same thing forever, wearing a mask or time travel can cause them to say someithing else. It's also nice how you can never trap yourself in an area as in other games where you can trap yourself and can't get out. The only thing I don't like in the game which doesn't matter is the water temple. The games designing is amazing. It's very deep. "I couldn't drop the dang controller". I found this game to be the best game I have ver played in my life.

This game should get 10 stars! it's awsome!

I have played this game and let me tell you that until you are finished with it you don't want to shut it off! This game is better than evry game I know of! If you're looking for a game with adventure, exitement, great graphics, and much more this is a game you dont want to think twice about getting! The storyline is really good and the characters are cool, even the villans! This would be a better game for teens rather than younger kids though because it has many puzzles that are very hard to figure out. If you also like the midevil days with swordfighting and castles you will really like this game. This game blew me away. I recomend it to everyone who loved the older zeldas. Its much, much better than those old ones too!

The best game on the face of the Earth!

Let's face it, although us Zelda vetrens were kinda upset abouthow unbeleivably easy this game was compared to the older ones, itkicks butt. I mean some serious butt! First off, the graphics are near to perfect! Link (handsome as always) looks great (although the villagers are sort of ... [silly] ... looking) as well as Zelda, Impa, Nabooru and most of the other main characters. The game has a wonderful in depth plot and an awsome plot twist at the end concerning Sheik (that's all I'm saying...) Of course, there's of fun mini games to play if you don't feel like treking through some temple and the ocarina is sooooooo much fun to goof around with! The musical score is another thing that enhances the excitement of the game. It has got to be the best one I've heard for a video game in a while. From the advenurous feeling of teh Hyrule Field theme to the gypsy like Gerudo music and the cryptic chanting of the Temple of Time to the relaxing sound of Zelda's Lullabye; the music is excelent with a whole orchestra which you can distinctly hear! The controls aren't to complicated and if you've played a Zelda game before, you'll catch on like a duck takes to water. Trust, me this game will have you going back for more! (I mean, look at me! I'm in love with Link and I've beaten the game over 30 times! Is that obsession or what?)

Comparing this game to FFVII(or any role-playing game) is irrelevant. Its like comparing Sonic the Hedgehog with Contra3. The Zelda/FFVII war goes on because people are a self-righteous, gotta categorize themselves join the bandwagon and attack anything different kinda lot. Both PS and N64 owners exhibit this behavior. FFVII and Zelda are the super-popular games for their respective systems, but they are not at all similar. FFVII is an actual RPG because it has turn-based combat and intricate storyline, while Zelda focuses on real-time battles and environment interaction. Storyline in Zelda is second priority, while FFVII would be useless if the story was completely bad. The first two Zelda's on the NES were all gameplay and no storyline anyway, as only the basic plot was explained with no events happening to any characters. SNES and GB and especially N64 Zelda games actually show events occuring and characters changing, such as the Cuckoo lady's brother becoming a monster in the Ocarina of Time after expressing a dislike for people. Zelda is more about evolving gameplay more than anything, as aspects of every Zelda game is implemented in a fresh way. The quest involving entering doungans from the overworld and gathering the quest items from inside, and the overworld that has the player uncovering new secrets in the same locations throughout the game are the main tradmarks of the Zelda series. In theory, the game world doesn't sound so large, but as one plays the game, they will find themselves going from area to area over and over again to uncover new and interesting items and characters and even doungans. Oh the other hand, with most other adventure games, once your done with an area, your done with it(except to go back to build levels, stay at a cheaper inn, or whatnot), while Zelda packs clever and well-thought out design into a relatively small gameworld. Someone who has played every Zelda game can see the ultimate realization of a creative vision. Characters and elements of other Zelda games are seen devleoping in this latest outing. This is an excellent game on its own, but much like Metroid and Super Metroid, one has to thoroughly play through the parent games to fully appreciate the sequeal. This game has tribute to every Zelda game, with the Master Sword, the multiple song Ocarina, the dual-world aspect, a deep and involving quest, interesting and often kooky character and enemy design, plus new ideas like riding a horse and the way the ocarina itself is used, and the z-targeting, something that has revolutionized 3D games, using the targeting to single-out enemies and even talk to people from a distance. Every Zelda fan will see the classic elements in 3D. Hitting chickens, flinging from building to building with the hookshot, fishing, shooting mini-games(oh, and the shooting is done in a clever way, too), riding the horse and fishing are all a pure joy. One little thing I don't like: the SNES Zelda had the Hyrule Castle Doungan at the beginning of the game, and the Castle Tower to bookend the quest, but in this game Link goes straight from past to future. There should have been a doungan to bookend Link's trancending into adulthood. And the final doungan really bothered me. It felt more like a mission-based platform game, as it is basically a conglomerate of all the temples. Also, this game is not that difficult, but the sheer amount of time it takes to play through is amazing. I can beat A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening in a couple of days now, but it takes a week of constant playing for me to find everything in Ocarina of Time, and there's no tedious level building, just the regular intelligently designed system of character growth based on collecting itmes and hearts found in every Zelda game. What Nintendo really needs to do is release the first four Zeldas on a compilation.

Zelda 64 excels as an overall experience.

Zelda 64 really is an amazing game. Graphics, sound, story, and gameplay all come together almost seamlessly to create a whole experience that is unmatched by any other videogame i can think of. Now, if you don't like action adventure games, zelda may not change your mind, but it should.

Zelda 64 is the fifth in the zelda series, and each game has been a remake of sorts, in that events in previous games are not mentioned and do not have consequences to other games in the series. At first glance, what separates this newest game from the rest of the Zelda here is the third dimension.

Like Mario 64, Zelda has made the jump to immersive 3-d with little problems and with excellent, intuitive control. The graphics are top notch, not only on a technical level, but also on an artistic level.

Similar to the cantina scene in Star Wars, many of the nicest graphical touches in Zelda 64 are 'throw away' (shown for a few seconds, or are part of a small element in the background). These little attentions to detail help flesh out Hyrule as a 'real' place.

The game is spent figuring out what to do, and then figuring out how to do it. Hints are available on the way, some of the puzzles are obtuse, and many cool and useful tools can be found during your journey. Like other Zelda games, there are many extra things for you to discover and accomplish.

The bottom line is that Zelda: The Ocarina of Time excels as an overall experience.

An amazing game full of surprises and wonder. The Legend of Zelda is a classic for the N64 platform, and should never be missed! So for those newbies: The main character is Link. Link is a young boy whom we first meet living in The Lost Woods. The Great Deku Tree, guardian of the Kokiris (sp?) health is failing. With his last words he tells Link his destiny - and what the young hero must do. Soon Link will be traveling far and wide across the complex land of Hyrule, gathering friends and foes along the way. With the aid of the fairy Navi, the race begins to be the first to reach the Triforce, three magical powers. You'll follow Link through childhood and adulthood, and be prepared to face the many challenges ahead. S0- You've heard about it. You've read about it. You know it's the epic above all epics - not quite. A wonderful game, but lacking a complex plot. Another Zelda game = another 'save the princess'. Many people have been spoiled by amazing playstation RPG'S, but let me tell you - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarnia of Time, is a game never to be casually looked over! Good and bad awaits, so let's get going...

Start you off with the BAD (Probably what most are looking for, since the majority of the these reviews are mindlessly optomistic)Anywho-

-'Save The Princess' *YAWN*. Princess Zelda should get a body guard.

-Text heavy (I came to play a game, not read a book!).

-Navi? Hwa, hahaaa! VERY ANNOYING (Link, looklooklook, listenlistenlisten...)

-Boring side games. If you're stuck in a temple, there ain't much else to turn to...

-Many, many, little blips in the game programming (but heck, what game doesn't have them).

-ZTargeting ...

-The angles will make you dizzy and nautious.

Now to leave you off feeling GOOD:

-Amazing graphics!

-Complex world!

-Thousands of character interactions!

-Link's got tons of weapons to expeirment with!

-That good 'ol Ocarnia is always fun to mess around with!

-Stunning magical powers and a surprising end!

-Temples (levels) with amazingly complex and eye popping scenes!

-Puzzles are challenging (VERY) but not impossible...

-And finally, this game is GREAT FUN!

So, if you've stuck through me with all of this, thanks a bunch. Those of you who skipped the entire review and read the end - no problemo. Don't worry 'cause here's a summery. Amazing game, great graphics, LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! Buy it now! Don't be fooled by the old copywrite, because this Zelda game surpasses most platform games on the market today!
