The best game I've ever played...

Buy this game. I repeat, just in case you did not hear me the first time: Buy this game.

Believe me, you'll be grateful you did.

In Zelda, you begin playing as Link, a young boy who lives in a small village in a forest. You start out on a normal visit to the "Great Deku Tree", the guardian of the village, and before you know it, you're entrusted with saving the entirety of your world.

The characters are all memorable, from your guardian fairy Navi, who is constantly giving you hints, to Kojiro, a blue cucco (chicken) who only crows around special people.

The graphics are amazing as is the camera. The music is enchanting from times when you're in an upbeat town theme to when you're in a dark and mysterious dungeon.

The puzzles in Zelda are not particularly hard especially if you've played other Zelda games. For the most part, you'll be able to figure them out (Navi gives hints and the camera will sometimes zoom to a place to indicate what needs to be accomplished) but you'll be calling up a friend or searching online for help at least once.

I loved the storyline, though I've heard some call it weak. Don't expect a Final Fantasy-type, deep, engrossing storyline from Zelda. Zelda's storyline is much simpler than that, though there are quite a few twists and turns along the way. There's also tons of side-quests which are fun, like fishing at Lake Hylia or bombchu bowling in Hyrule Castle Town.

The Zelda world becomes your world. By the end of the journey, you'll be hummin' the tunes you learn to play on your ocarina and talking about Ruto and Kaepora Gaebora as if they were your good old friends! It's more than that though, I really don't quite know how to explain it. The overall 'experiance' of Zelda is amazing. It's something you'll want to play again and again, even though it won't be much different each time.

Trust me, if you buy this game, you will not regret it. I've recommended Zelda to many of my friends and all of them have loved it. Go! Click on the order button now! The Legend of Zelda awaits!

Zelda: The Game Of Our Time

Zelda...beautiful, rich, amazing, complex....it's all in there, you just have to experience this experience for yourself. A few summers ago I was given an N64 for christmas from my parents, and as the [bad] N.Z weather approached me I decided to buy a game for my lonely N64. The gold cartridge of Zelda drew me in and I brought it.....one of the best decisions in my life.

The world of Zelda draws you in like no other. It's atmospheric....from the beautiful ambient tune of 'Serenade Of Water' to the rich fields of Hyrule, this game will have you in it's trance from the moment you flick the power button.

The graphics are amazing. I know nothing at all about graphics but everything is so detailed you feel like your a part of the Hyrule world. The way that daylight turns into sunset is just beautiful, especially if your in a location such as the top of Death Mountain. As well as the graphics, the camera angles that are used are brilliant in that you can look at one scene from about 3 different perspectives. At times however, the Z target camera technique can become annoying when fighting enemies. That however, is the only flaw with the control system that I can see.

The sound provides the perfect backdrop to already beautiful landscapes. The softly played tune that echoes around Zora's Domain is of such majesty that you can almost see the Zora's (fish-like people) soothing themselves to their own music. The sound effects used for certain movements (opening special doors, finding special items etc) are also relevant and are very familiar as the game spirals on. The ending song 'Zelda's Lullaby' is the most beautiful composition I have ever heard.

The characters in this game are crucial. The main character is you, Link. He is accompanied by a fairy called Navi who is a helpful assistant in your most difficult of troubles. Along your journey you'll met many new people of many different races (zoras, gorons, kokiri, hylians, gerudos). Every person you meet is given so much personality that you'll feel as though you know where everyone sleeps and where everyone lives in the game. Even the minor characters are brilliantly portrayed, from the fishing man who tells random jokes, to the town beggar who has a habit of ripping you off. At the ending scene, all the characters unite for one last farewell and by then you'll become so fond of this game you'll actually feel sad that everyone you met is going to be gone.

Every button on the N64 controller is used for a special purpose. The A button is used as an 'action' button, making Link able to pick up items, move boxes, pull of attacking rolls and flips which you will find out more about as you delve deeper into the game. The B button is primarily used for the 3 swords that you obtain throughout the game, but is also used for opening doors and even speeding up the horse that you are riding!! The Z button is perhaps most crucial of all the buttons with it's main function being the Z target lock on system which is basically a helpful way to 'lock on' to enemies that you are fighting. It also has other functions that you can work out....
Lastly the shoulder buttons which act as guards (if you have a shield equipped) and also each shoulder button can be used as a musical note when you play the ocarina!!

The storyline that runs throughout this game is what makes it enjoyable, challenging but always refreshed. Basically, Link (you) is called upon by the Great Deku Tree (a tree with a mo and beard) to help save Hyrule. A man named Ganondorf plans to steal the Triforce by entering the Sacred Realm and ultimately wreak havoc on the world using the powers of the triforce. It is your job to stop Ganondorf from ruling the world and ultimately restore peace to Hyrule.

Throughout this game you will fight enemies, race horses, go fishing, find chickens, create friendships with many different people, and save the princess Zelda who actually appears very little in the game but is important anyway.

The pure beauty of this game will leave you hungry for more and sometimes you'll find yourself just playing it to visit Lake Hylia, or just playing it to go for a stroll on your horse . But Zelda is not the sort of game that you just turn on when your mates are around, Zelda is a game that requires your full attention and a lot of your time. I actually regret using the word 'game' for Zelda....it's so much more than a 'game'. It grows on you until you'll treasure it so much that playing it is a privilege. Think i'm being over dramatic? Experience Zelda and see for yourself.

Whoever hates this game should be shot! This is one of the greatest games ever! It's the best of Link! GameSpot gave it a 10! Anyway, enough prasing it. On to my review...

Graphics: 10/10: Looks really good for the time. Big, vast valleys, long mountains, clear water, beautiful guts of Jabu-Jabu...

Sound: 10/10: Clash! AHHH! HAHA! HIYA! Beautiful Ocarina sounds! BOOMM!

Music 11/10: Beautiful music. Ocarina songs are deep and moving. Composed beautifully.

Gameplay: Infinity/10 Awesome! Go through many dungeons filled with tough enimies and hard puzzles! Talk to people in town! Play many, minigames! Stealth! This is extremely fun and addictive! Hidden items. You can also find 99 Gold Skullutas! Play an Ocarina! Controls are flawless!

One of the greatest games of all time. Don't play it-live it!

PS. Why has Amazon combined OOT and MM into one? It's confusing, and it's depleting the rating! Also, Gerry Atrick, the reviewer above me, was that troll review even nesscery? You said to contact you if anybody knew how to get out of the Deku Tree. Well, 1: Look on a gaming site and 2: How can anybody contact you if they don't know your address. And NO, there isn't a cheat to make Link naked. It's E-rated! Ah well, whaddya expect from a guy from Ireland...

The best game I've ever played

"Ocarina of Time" is by far the best video game I have ever played on *any* gaming system. The graphics were good, but what really sold the game to me was the completeness of it. The world it created was real and very involving. It kept me playing for hours on end, even when I was stuck on something. It was just the right amount of challenge so that I didn't get overly frustrated and only had to cheat using a game guide once or twice.

I also immensely enjoyed the music. It wasn't your typical annoying repetitive video game type music. It added the mood of the game, giving the Forest Temple a particularly creepy feel.

Bottom Line: Awesome game, awesome music, just as fun on the second play-through

Many have said best ever, it's hard to disagree

This last year of 2003 ET did a survey about the best video game series ever. Zelda one there poll and this game is one of the reasons why.

Ocarina of Time tells the continuing story of the Zelda universe. In the Zelda timeline it takes place before the other games. As usual you are the hero Link. You must save the princess Zelda. You have different quests you must finish and many obstacles that will block your way. The story is that Ganondorf the evil wizard is trying to take over the world. Equipped with the Ocarina of Time you will travel time in your quest to save Zelda, Hyrule, and the world.

This game is jam packed with stuff to do. I'd say you have a garunteed 40 hours of gameplay. It has all the classic Zelda weapons and more. You get to ride a horse across the country side and do some impressive underwater work. There are just so many impressive factors.

I love this game. I can't thing of words to describe how good it is. If you have an N64 your collection is not complete until this game is put in it.

Nintendo was going through some tough times. Sony and the soon to come Dreamcast were dominating the public. Very few quality games were appearing. Then, in September 98, the long awaited Ocarina of Time had arrived at not a better time. Zelda:OoT was woth the wait. From when you first step foot in the Korkiri Forest, to the final battle, Zelda was (and still is) an award winning game. The graphics are definitely the best of it's kind. You feel like your in the game. The entire land of Hyrule is as exotic as paradise. The sounds and music are perfect. Period. Even without the Zelda theme, Oot has a soundtrack that rivals any top Pop singer's. The gameplay is easy. Even a deku nut can do it. Even if it's your first time with the N64 controller the begining area will teach you all of Link's(the hero) tactics and moves. The story is the best of any game. It could be explained two ways: A person who hates the game and only played for 5 minutes, and an average gamers way. The first way's story: A dead tree told you to get three gems. Then you have to save a princess. The latter's story goes like this: You are told by the Deku Tree to collect Three Spiritual Stone that... well I'll let you find out eventually because you should(and will) buy this game. ....... Thank you.

THE reason to own an N64.

I purchased an N64 the day it was released, expecting it to measure up to my favorite system of all-time, the Super Nintendo. Unfortunately, it didn't. I was disappointed with the lack of quality games. I was thinking, "What happened, Nintendo?" The following Christmas 'Zelda: The Ocarina of Time' was released with much hype. I bought it, and was hoping from the bottom of my heart that it lived up to its Zelda name, and after playing for 15 minutes I dicovered that it was more than worthy. It had silky graphics, a great storyline, and that little special Miyamoto touch. This is one of the best RPGs that I have ever played. If you don't own an N64, its worth it to buy one just for this game. And if you have an N64 already and don't have this, you have mental problems, or have an intense hatred for RPGs. Long live Shigeru Miyamoto! Long live Nintendo!

An Extremely Interesting Game

What makes The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time so cool is that it has very intricate puzzles. It's not so easy that you can beat it in one play, but it's not so hard that it takes you a very long time to beat it.

I especially liked the dungeon at the beginning of the game inside the deku tree. It's fun because it was the first big puzzle of the game and you're just getting used to your weapons and moves.

A great game!

When people think of N64 in the future, it will be due to the excellence of this game. All my children enjoyed this game. They were even hoping that someone would write a novel about the adventures of the characters.

ZELDA THE BEST GAME EVER!

I am new to N64 but I think that zelda is the best game I have ever played in my life. Zelda is very challenging but that is what makes it so great. You get to do lots of things from shooting arrows to riding horses and jumping with your horse. You can even make cool songs on your Ocarina like the simpsons, greenday, starwars and lots more. I personally think the this game deserves a very great award but I am sure it got it's award from the fans. IF YOU ARE NEW TO N64 YOU SHOULD BUY IT BECAUSE IT JUST KICKS @$$. DON'T READ 2 STAR REVIEW OR 3 STAR REVIEWS, JUDGE FOR YOURSELF. IT HAS NO VIOLENCE WHAT SO EVER AND IT IS JUST ONE OF THOSE COACH POTATOE GAMES. WHAT I MEAN IS YOU CANNOT GET OF YOUR CHAIR EVEN IF YOU ARE ROTTING TO PIECES! YOU SHOULD BY THIS GAME BECAUSE IT IS MUCH BETTER THEN SOME OF THE FINAL FANTASY SERIES(IT IS NOT EXACTLY RPG BUT MUCH BETTER! ENJOY YOUR GAME!
