This is a n64 classic. Same with golden, perfect dark, donk kong, it is one of the best games. If you are thinking of buying it buy it now! because in a couple of years games like these aren't going to be made anymore and you are going to have to bend your back to find it. BUY OLD GAMES LIKE THESE NOW. THEY WILL BE GONE SOON.
Oh puhleeze...

This is for all you diehard PS supporters. Sony Playstation doesn't have anything that even comes close! I sit here and listen to all you people harp on about the superiority of CDRoms versus cartridges, a simple matter of medium, but if you take a step back, you can plainly see that the Nintendo 64 is a superior platform. Sony Playstation (and the late Sega Saturn) never even approached the 64's 3D capability. Okay, so cartridges can't store as much information. But I have never had to wait for a cartridge game to tell me it was "LOADING...". That is why we have consoles as opposed to PCs. You want to sit there and scratch your butt waiting, you go ahead. And someone suggested that Zelda 64 should have been converted to PC? What, are you stupid?!? What company wants to give their sales over to another company? And how many years did FF7 hang around before it was released on PC? You in the West may think a game is only released when it arrives in the U.S. You may want to check out the scene in Japan before sticking your foot in your mouth though.
As for Zelda 64, it really is a fantastic game. Most PS games I've seen required a limited amount of thought, and more reflexes and hand-eye coordination. Face it, games are more than just sound and graphics, which Zelda has in spades. Are you gonna tell me a 32 bit console can compete with a 64 bit one? And to date, Dreamcast hasn't released anything with near as much pull. Zelda is a fully immersive world, rich in story and character, even if it aims for the younger audience. You only have to look at the sales of Zelda 64 to see it's what people want. Heck, Amazon.com itself is out of stock! Speaks for itself really...

Zelda is no doubt the best game ever made. The gameplay is amazing and the puzzles are puzzling and Link is darn right groovy. The music is primo, the sound effects are primo, doesn't get any better than this for a cartridge game... Sure it doesn't have CD-quality sound.. well, its not a CD game... I'll give up CD sound for zero loading times and high-rez killer graphics, not only that.. I'm not really into interactive movies.. eh-hum FF7... Those of you giving this game one star should be forced to suck link's golden nuggets. Thank you.
THE GUYS WHO DON'T LIKE IT ARE JEALOUS!

The Legend of Zelda is a GREAT game. Excellent storyline, amazing graphics, and a well thought out plot. I suggest playing and buying it....even the console system itself is worth playing this masterpiece! I read some of the negative reviews below by some weirdos like that Squaresoft supporter (please write me if you see this) and all I have to say is JEALOUS. Some people are avid fans of Final Fantasy. I LOVE FF but I hafve to give kudos to Zelda. They're completely different genres and games and to compare only shows the negativity and naivety of people like the reviews below who gave it one-two stars. How pathetic you guys are to trash such a great game. Let it stand on its own rather than comparing constantly. Just enjoy it! It's amazing.
Why is it the ultimate game?

Hi again All,
Just another response to a recent review.
A shopper from Raleigh, North Carolina , April 14, 1999 Legend of Zelda is the ultimate adventure video game. Legend of Zelda is the ultimate adventure video game with endless surprises. [I agree a lot that the unexpected is something what promotes interest, however as I know any type of entertainment these days is not absolute. A movie can not achieve such excellence, so I wouldn't believe a game can. In the case of Zelda 64, what events in particular can you list to express the quality of 'endless surprises'. The reason why I am asking is similar to my previous posts, reviews without backup are not reviews, more like a comment, which is opposite to what a review requires: examples from the source & analyzation of why it is commended]
I could play this game hour after hour without getting bored. [I have no problem with this comment but there is no game that can strangle a consumer to play forever, of course you may play hour after hour at first, but can you guarantee you will play the game all your life? the answer is no. Therefore duration of playing can not be described as a quality] It is very challenging and that is what makes it fun and hard to put down. [Examples of parts where it is challenging?(to what degree do you have to be involved in thinking actions etc) and I have a question after once or many times beating it do you want to start the game over and repeat the process? Now that is a question to ask yourself]
The graphics are amazing and the sounds effects are perfect. [Graphics could be commented amazing however can you be more elaborate by describing the 3D models, color selection and mobility effects? Also the sound for N64 is quite an upgrade from Super Famicom midi which is nothing spectacular to commend because other consoles make use of CD quality exerpts] If you don't have this game, I would definitely buy it today or rent it to see how great it really is. [Renting is the only comment I agree because testing a game by rental is better than buying it right away. There the gamer is able to determine if the game is worth the opportunity cost when compared to other titles that have the opportunity to purchase.]
I am not trying to put anyone down. Whether a pro-Zelda64 or con-Zelda 64 credibility in playing games and being able to analyze, compare and give example to backup opinions are essential. Seriously a majority of reviews here lack such requirements which are weak in credibility therefore the current ranking of 4.5 stars is inaccurate.
The best game in the series!

I love this game! I like that you can ride a horse. I also like fighting the bosses. But it doesn't save ganondorf's defeat at the end. In other words, you have to press reset after the credits. And your fairy, Navi, can be very annoying. I love the whole series, but this is my favorite!
The greatest video game of all times.

We all know Nintendo. sometimes lets us down- especially when it comes to release dates of its video games. But, this time, Nintendo kept it back for a reason worth noticing. This game is definitely one of the best games of all time. Awesome cinema scenes, great graphics (but with poor textures), and great sound. But, the one thing this game lacks in sound is the lack of the classic Zelda music. The rain sequences and the lightning deliver realism beyond that in the N64 to date. The level designs are completely breath-taking. The bosses of the dungeons are extremely cool. Link's sword-fighting skills are very cool, too. This game is well worth your money. Drama, hype, and suspense are packed into this game. It's worth your money. Trust me.
WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!
