The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was a great game. I got it for Christmas two years ago (along with my Nintento 64), and it was the first game I'd ever played on N64. No sooner had I turned it on that I was in love with it. The graphics were so enchanting; the adventure just seemed so exciting. But when I got to the first dungeon, I have to admit, I was scared and waited for several hours before even trying it, and, oddly enough, got through it on my first try. I loved the game so much, in fact, that I couldn't put the controller down. I was halfway through the game by the time Christmas break was over. The game's setting was breathtaking: from the friendly Kokiri Forest, where the game starts out, to the menacing Ganon's Castle at the game's end, seven years after it began. The game requires a lot of time travel and teleportation, with the help of a magic ocarina, or flute (hence the name Ocarina of Time). The game's 10+ dungeons are all difficult in their own way, each one with a different item essential for Link (your character) to complete his journey. It would have earned five stars from me, but lost one because the plot is, if looked at carefully, weak, and the creators didn't give it the glory that they gave its predecessors (especially SNES's The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past). This is simply because the world that the game takes place in isn't very big once you think about it, and some of the puzzles aren't as hard as those in the other Zelda games. But the outstanding graphics and attractive design definitely make up for that in the longrun. The critics may very well be right in saying that this is the best game ever made.

This may be a kids' review, but i'm not a kid, just a teenager too lazy to get a sn at amazon, but seriously this is the best game ever by a long shot. Its so complete, so beautiful, so completely flawless that it leaves every game before it and after in the dust, the majesty and beauty contained within this game are beyond compare, if you dont own an N64 go fork over ten bucks for the system and then pick up this game, and a lot of other great n64 titles, but this game, until you play it you have no idea, and to all those who say link to the past is better, you die you rot, all the best zelda games have been in 3d and they always will, dont think this is an unfounded hatred, i beat link to the past, great game, but this game is just beyond perfect, best game ever
respect my authoritah and buy this game
simply breathtaking

As far as I can recall, Gamespot has given a 10/10 to exactly five games (in about six years): Chrono Cross (best game for the PSX ever), Perfect Dark (best shooter for the N64), Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 (best skating game period), Grand Theft Auto Pack (can't say I like the overdone violence), and... Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Now, there's a reason for this. First of all, Zelda isn't excessively long. In Square Enix's (extremely good, mind you) RPGs, you spend a long time playing the game, then an inordinately long time exploring the world, finding all the secrets and stuff. Now, in Zelda, it's much less probable you will do that. Now, I'm not saying the game is short, I'm just saying -- you'll spend a few 10-30 hours playing the game, then you'll stop. Is that bad? No. Those will be the funnest 10-30 hours you'll ever have on a console manufactured in the mid 1990s.
Zelda's a different kind of RPG than FFX. The battles are all real-time, meaning it's more of an Action RPG and less of a turn-based RPG. Now, that's a good thing -- if need be, you can run hastily away from battles if you are low on health, drink a potion, switch weapons, then go back in and fight. Speaking of weapons, there's plenty of items to be had -- four different types of clothes, along with different boots, swords, and shields. There are three "kid" levels and seven "adult" levels, then the final boss battle, which I won't spoil for you.
Now, as for the replay value. Zelda is, admittedly, no Chrono Cross or FFX: you won't finish the game, go "wow", and start it over to try to get different endings, or get all the items using an online walkthrough. When you finish the game, you will go "wow, I finished this rather difficult game", then you will go find your PS2 so you can rescue yourself from the bad graphics. Zelda was a groundbreaking game in its time (late 1990s), but it has bad graphics compared to FFX, obviously.
Now, you might be going, "ugen, why the heck are you giving this game 5 stars if you are criticizing it so much?" And the answer is, I've just criticized everything there is to criticize. The plot is solid and simple (you don't have to pay critically close attention to understand the game, a la Chrono Trigger), the controls simple, and the gameplay addictive. It's miles better than Zelda: Majora's Mask, and I do believe it's better than Zelda: Wind Waker (although my sister disagrees). Simply put, it's the only good RPG on the N64 console -- that I've played, mind you -- although, if you want my opinion of the best RPG ever, try Chrono Cross, FF 7, or FFX. If you have a dusty N64 lying in your closet, and you can find this game used for less than $10, I advise you to try it out.
Wow.

I rented this game, along with an N64, over a year ago while visiting my parents. I very quickly persuaded my parents to make a late Christmas present of an N64 and Zelda for my very own. I do have some other great N64 games but this game alone makes it worth owning the system, no matter what the N64 naysayers might tell you. I've beaten the game several times and I keep coming back for more. I'm not patient enough to hunt down the 100 gold skulltulas, but other side quests are a delight.
You'll quickly gain an affinity for the characters and sympathy for their plights. You'll watch proudly as your horse Epona faithfully comes when you call. You'll sense looming evil and you'll heed the call for heroism. I love this game. I hate the Water Temple though.
Best Zelda game, and Best game in general!

I LOVE this game, I've played and beat it TONS of times! There are so many people tat you meet and use, and you have to do so many new things and you will almost never get bored while playing!
Some of the levels are nice and easy, but then there are the super hard levels that'll really make you use stratedy. Almost anything can happen in this game, and there is just SO mucht o do in the game! Even when you get up to the end, there is more than likely a whole bunch that you can still do!
A Truly Legendary Game

No amount of words can describe how amazing and special this video game is. I used to be very interested in video games, but my interest has died. Only one game can make me pick up the controller, and it's The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. No game has been or ever will be half as good. Simple as that.

With almost three years in the making, how did The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time stand the test of time itself? As a prequel to the entire Legend of Zelda series, it has caught heavy anticipation. Ocarina is a prequel to the events before A Link to the Past. Link is a child, whose destiny is to save the land of Hyrule from Ganon (Gannondorf here) by traveling through time. You'll meet up with other characters in the adventure and interact will fellow Hylians, Kokiri, Zoras, and other civilations who aid you on your quest to save Hyrule. Ocarina of Time is one of those controversial games that the series has carried all along. In the end, the game is an Action/RPG, and should never be classified in the style of traditional, turn-based RPG's (like Final Fantasy).
New additions to the series are automatic jumping and Z-targeting. The emphasis of the Zelda games has always been puzzle-solving and dungeon arrangement. You also build your attributes, receiving items including the Ocarina, learning songs whose purposes range from teleporting to opening doors to time traveling. Along with mini-games, hidden items and side quests equal, its a worthwhile experience. Graphics-wise, Hyrule never looked better and most effects in Ocarina of Time are outstanding. No need for sharp visuals and smooth framerates, but rather focus on detail and designer talent. The real-time cutscenes and the passing of day and night are impressive. The sound also holds its own on this cartridge format. The themes of Zora's Domain and Gerudo Valley are music to the ears. Zelda fans will remember tunes of Kakariko Village and Zelda's Lullaby. A big plus is that all the sound effects from previous Zelda games have made a comeback.
In the end, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time makes the cut. Even though the gameplay consists mainly of dungeon-dwelling and puzzle-solving, the impressive graphics, quality sound and everything that's been obtained from previous Zelda titles will keep fans and non-fans alike entertained. It's fun.

This game is probably the best game of all time. It is very fun and challenging with great levels and scenery. The only game that came close to this was Super Mario RPG. Everyone who has NU64 should have this game because it is the best game ever.
