I'm a Mario RPG veteran and I get bored of beating it over and over again. But when I played paper I was happy to do something diffrent for a change. But it is more comical than storyline. Take for intsance in the first battles the clouds are on strings. Plus the extra charaters are hopelessly funny koopas trying to dress up as cheery toads, a lakitu whose name is laky lester. But rent it before you buy
A little too juvenile

This game is really cute and has great humor but to be honest it does not have a whole lot going on. The thing I really did not like was that you could not save very often so you really had to devote a lot of time to playing at one sitting. I did like the way the game was drawn and the story. Just not all I thought it would be. Great for kids!
No. 1 game!

THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER! I'm telling you It's so good I've beaten it in my pleaser 5 times! The hurmor varies, but it's always at least a little good. I'm not a real expert in the game, so it used to take me weeks to play it through, but now I can practically beat the game in days. The plot goes like this: Bowser steals the wish-granting star rod from Star Heaven and imprisons the Star Spirits. Then he interrupts Peach's party and kidnaps her. Then Mario goes and rescues the Star Spirits. After that he gets the power which can counteract the Star Rod, goes of and defeats Bowser. There is a very wide variety of characters. Some known from Mario games before, and some apparently drawn out of thin air. When you've played it a few times and can memorize what you're supposed to do, to me, it's still fun and satisfying because you don't need a guide or anything. One of the best parts is being Peach. Your friend, Twink, helps you do things to help Mario including disguising yourself as another guard, baking a cake, finding a secret exit from your room, and sneaking through the library to hear guards talk about the Third Boss. The cake is especially fun and challenging. The challenging part is the baking. You have to bake it for an exact time, but the ridiculous time happens to be 30 seconds. The fun part is that you can use ingredients which aren't in the receipe to make the cake. Those ingredients include water, dish cleaning solution, and milk. And of course it's fun just making the cake anyway. The music to me is very memorable. After I had finished the game the first two times, I found myself humming the tunes from the game a lot. I got out of that habit later. Anyway, my final conclusion is for anyone who likes Nintendo games, you have got to get this one.
THE BEST MARIO GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paper Mario is a very large game (maybe one of the best on N64) who brings Mario and Luigi back to the RPG's. With a lot of worlds to visit and seven spirits to save, this game is going to become one of your favorites to play. Envolve into an adventure with 8 partners and fight Bowser 'til the end to finally rescue princess Peach and bring back the peace in Toad Town. It's not gonna be easy so prepare yourself to pass hours in front of your TV to finally get all the star pieces and defeat the different bosses to complete the game. A really good game with excellent graphic details and a very large trame. Just buy it!
It's an RPG, BUT......

It's somehow REALLY fun!!!! I usually HATE THE **** OUT OF RPG'S, like LOTR third age (which was an unbelievable let-down, since I thought it was like the amazing return of the king). Every time I play it, I look forward to the new varieties of companions that join you later. I will admit that, at first, I was sad about the battle system, but soon I got the hang of it ad it became really fun. It's ironic how games like this make systems as early as 1st or 2nd gen systems better than 7th gen. And to the 7th gen(wii 360 ps3) executives, GET RID OF THE ******* ANIME RPGS!! THEY ARE REALLY STUPID!
The game that was almost great

I think this is almost a good game because the last boss: Bowser is too hard. Why I think is pretty good is because there is funny parts like when Kolorado says "You look like you need help" then he charges and since your fighting a lava piranha plant he then says "Ow! My shell is burnt really... OW! bad". The last boss Bowser is annoying because when you attack, the witch Kammy Koopa makes Bowser bigger. You attack him three turns then he says "Time to use my old star rod" and then you use your star beam against him and he will say "You mustached plumber fool! I am invincible!" then the game turns to Peach; a star kid knocks Kammy Koopa off her magical broom and unties Peach. Then Kammy Koopa jumps on her broom and fights the star kid Twink. Peach can only use Focus and Twink can only use Dash. Kammy Koopa's only attack is to send yellow block down at Twink. Luigi is also in this game (he doesn't fight though). Also included are new characters like: Goombario, Kooper, Bombette, Bow, Lakilester, Sushie, Watt, and Parakarry. I did not say these in the order they join your party. Lakilester is the last one to join your group. I also like the game because a guy named Merlon tells you what you should do next to beat the game. I give it four stars because it was a almost a very, very, good game.
Very Disappointing

I was really excited when I received Paper Mario. I thought I was getting a new Mario level game, like Mario 1, 2, 3, or Super Mario World. Those games were awesome! I turned Mario Paper on, and it went into this very VERY long boring story. Then I kept going through the story and it finally finished. Mario wakes up in a bed, and the scene looked very similar to Zelda. I didn't like the idea of Mario being in one big world, but if it was kind of like Zelda it might grow on me. Mario gets out of bed, and EVERYONE he sees talks to him. They all go on and on, which is very boring. I prefered it in the past Mario games when Mario and Luigi didn't talk to any body, and just went about their business. Finally, Mario leaves and takes this goompa with him. What I hate the most: Whenever you see an enemy (which is quite often), you go into this different scene for a battle. You select if you want to hammer, or jump on the enemy, and then you watch Mario go. After Mario hits him, the enemy hits you while Mario is frozen there taking the beating. Its TERRIBLE! I like to control my jumping myself, and get it done with quickly. Who cares about having a big battle with a goompa? Not me! I liked the Original Mario Brothers 1, 2, 3. Then Super Mario World, was my all time favorite. I was hoping Paper Mario would be a new version of that. Instead, its like being stuck in this big long boring storybook, every creature wastes your time telling you all this stuff that you don't care about. Then you can't actually control Mario, or protect him in fights. I wouldn't waste your time or money on this game, unless you want to buy mine to take it off my hands. Nintendo: make another Mario Brothers level game, and I'll be the first to buy it. But -- Mario Paper is the worst game I've ever played!
Good as a game, horible sequel

The game itself is a great piece of Mario gameplay, but as a sequel to Super Mario RPG it holds barely any connection. Ex: Where is SMITHY, or a baddie in relation to SMITHY, Where is Mallow and Geno, Why is Bowser the main villan (playing as him was a blast), what happened to Toadstool as a character, it should be developed by SQUARE (makers of the first game, and yes I know that SQUARE ditched Nintendo during the 64 days), Where are the cameos a.k.a Link, Culex, Yoshi, and others appeared in the first, why is there little to no connection to the Stars from the first game. Don't get me wrong, the game is a great game but I would like to see a true sequel from SQUARE for the GBA or GCN. Also I would like to see more appearances of Mallow and Geno. Get this game if you want a great time,,, but if you want the long-delayed sequel to Mario RPG, DON'T GET IT THEN!
Excellent Role-Playing Game disguised as a Storybook

The "cute" graphics help set a mood that is very different from traditional RPG games. The game still has an RPG feel to it but not quite as slow paced. Traditional RPG's depend on the story and lack in gameplay, but Paper Mario is lacking in story and has excellent gameplay. The first hour of the game is very slow and kind of disappointing, but if you can make it through the first hour the game gets much better.
In the game you play Mario and you are trying to save the Princess (just like in every Mario game) and to do this you must collect 7 Stars and their Powers. During the game you will meet different supporting characters that will help Mario in fights and will give you different abilities that will help you travel through the world.
The platform elements are similar to a traditional Mario/Mega Man game, and the RPG elements are similar to Super Mario RPG/Chrono Cross.
Overall this is an excellent game for anyone who won't feel threatened by the "cuteness" of the game.
