Words can't describe this adventure! As an addict of the original RPG for, I find this new gaming experience wonderful. It has great new characters, a fascinating plotline, wonderful new attacks and attack options, and overall fun gameplay.

A Failed RPG...

Sequels can be very corruptive. Paper Mario was partially supposed to be a sequel to the SNES Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. I was deeply disappointed with Paper Mario. It certainly would be a bad choice for the RPG-fans or even Super Mario RPG fans... Yes, the graphics are very well-done(no angular graphics this time!) but the game play is quite too short. It took me less than a month to beat it. And... Those people got to come up with better ideas than just "Save the Princess from Bowser for the 99th time". That story is getting VERY old. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this to any RPG-lovers. It's such a shallow role-playing game. However, Paper Mario may be appealing to younger players. Otherwise, I suggest you rent Paper Mario and beat it in 3 days. It's quite possible.

is this game fun or what?

Man Paper Mario is sure a blast.Sience I got Paper Mario I've had such a blast. With all those scary and exciting parts I don't know what else to ask for.Paper Mario is about 7 star spirtes that were captered by Bowser,an evil dinasaur/turtle.Bowser was asking the star spirites bad wishes such as,I want to beat up Mario or I want Prinsses Peach to like me,of course star spirtes ignored such pity wishes like that.Bowser got so mad that the star spirets wern't granting his wishes so he went up to Star Heaven and stole the star rod.

Then one day Mario got a letter from Prinsses Peach. It said he and his brother,Luigie are invited to a party, but they didn't know that Bowser had an evil plan.So Mario wonders throug the castle tring to find Prinsses Peach. When he finds her,Bowser's attack startes.Later Mario and Bowser fight, sadley Mario loses.

Babyish, stupid, boring, and annoying.

This is the WORST game I played. At first I thought this game would be excellent because I LOVED Super Mario for the SNES. When I put the game in, I wasted so much time on a LONG and boring intro that you HAVE to watch. 2nd Mario talks to EVREYBODY in the game, which adds to more boredom. May I also include there is no sound? 3rd, everytime Mario has a battle with a stupid bad guy, it goes into a scene similar to Pokemon. You do your attack, than Mario gets attacked himself! What is that?! If I made the game, I would just make it so Mario and him fought normally!
4th, the graphics are just terrible.
5th, the music REALLY got on my nerves.
So ignore the majority of people that say it is the best. In my opinion, the game is sad and just disgraces the N64.

good.

Paper Mario is quite unlike other mario games. The hand on action is limtited- you are forced to use a lot of strategy. There are many side quests in this game- there is definately a lot of gameplay. There is anywhere from 20-40 hours involved with this game. It doesn't have much replay value unfortunately, and you might get a little tired of it before its end. It is scripted for younger players, but they perhaps won't understand the fighting systems. I personally enjoyed this game, but I can't say I believe really young or really old gamers will. If you like the final fantasy games, think of this as a gateway into that realm. It is a fun game, but nothing groundbreaking here. Overall it was well worth my time, but its not a classic by any means.

Best game of the century!

I have had the BEST experiences with this game. It is VERY fun! Here's how the storyline goes:

The Seven Star Spirits weild a treasure named the Star Rod. It is capable of granting any wish. They get their energy from the prayers of the Toads. The Star Rod is used by the Star Spirits to grant good wishes.

One day, Bowser decided to steal the Star Rod because the Star Spirits weren't granting his wishes. After he stealed it, he used the Star Rod to imprison the seven Star Spirits and make himself the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom by (very predictably) kidnapping Princes Peach. Mario tries to save her, but Bowser easily defeats him with the Star Rod.

Mario must rescue the seven Star Spirits bucause they weild another power- the Star Beam. When the seven Star Spirits are gathered, they can negate the effects of the Star Rod by using the Star Beam. Only then can Mario and Bowser have the ultimate showdown.

Unfortunately, the seven Star Spirits are being held in individual places very far apart. As if that were bad enough, each is guarded by a VERY powerful boss.

So, the twist in this game is that you are not trying to rescue 1 person, but 8 people (7 Star Spirits and Princess Peach)! During the adventure, you gain better hammers and better boots which make you deal more damage. Also, you gain different partners, each with several attacks. Additionaly, Mario can equip badges. When you gain 100 Star Points (you earn them from defeating enemies), you go up a level. Then you can choose: upgrade HP by 5 points, upgrade FP (points to use special moves) by 5 points, or upgrade BP (Badge Points, used for equipping badges) by 3 points.

Fortunately, when you rescue a Star Spirit, you can use Star Energy to call on them for help in a battle. They do things like restore HP/FP and weaken enemies.

You can see why I think why this game is SO fun!

I love it!

Generally, seeing Mario's picture on a game is an indicator that you'll get a technically excellent game that won't show a lot of creativity ... Mario games are among the best in any genre, but they don't add much to the genre.

Paper Mario is an exception. It's a very innovative RPG, expanding on the "action combat RPG" concept from the SNES Super Mario RPG. Fighting is conducted on a typical RPG combat screen, but Mario can both power up his moves and deflect his opponents' through skillful timing. This lets them run an amazingly tight difficulty curve -- this is the only RPG I've ever played where gaining a single hit point can make a noticeable difference in your power level.

The game's writing is typical for Nintendo -- kid-appropriate but not boring for adults, with some sly humor at the expense of its characters. While for the most part it's a cute cartoon, there are moments of real fear and wonder.

The "paper" bit is the only downside, and it's not much of one. Really, it's just a silly gimmick that Mario and his friends are animated as cardboard cutouts, and adds little to the gameplay aside from the occasional visual joke. It acts as a separator, making it harder for the player to relate to the character ... not that that would have been terribly likely anyway.
