I'd recommend buying it used to save some money. The tracks are nice and the game play is all right. It's just not the same as playstation racing games though.

I love all the Mario Kart games, this one has some of the coolest tracks. Yoshi Valley is the best track I've ever played and the graphics are pretty good too. Small selection of characters (if you've got the one for Gamecube) but still a blast. Awesome 1 player or multiplayer game, a must have for parties! Good anytime and that's hard to find.

There is only one word to describe mario kart 64,BEST! This game has people from the original Supermario 64.(except DK and Wario. With many racetracks.like Mario raceway, Wario Stadium, and much more. Bring a friend or family member to play you in 2 player mode. Includes Battle mode, and vs. Wanna play with 3 more people? You can in 4 player mode. Trust me, This game is one of the best games for the nintendo game system.(not snes)

One of the first games for the Nintendo 64, Mario Kart 64 is actually a sequal for Super Mario Kart on the Super Nintendo system. That game was a blast and this one is just as good.
Think go-carts with the Mario gang. You can choose one of a group of Mario characters to race with. Each character has it's own attributes, both positive and negative, and can greatly affect how well you do, so you may find yourself trying different characters until you find one that best fits your racing style.
While racing, you have the chance to grab special items (turtle shells, invincibility stars, banana peels, etc.) which you can use for yourself or against your opponents, dodging their items at the same time as well as any obstacles inherent to the particular race course you're on. The higher you finish in each race, the more points you earn. After 4 races, the winner is determined.
This game is just as fun to play as the original Kart game from the SNES. My only suggestion is to take care that your wife isn't more competitive than you, otherwise you're in for a beating.
GREAT GRAPHICS, SOUNDS, and FUN!

This game is great. It's the best racing game I've ever played. It features 16 race tracks: LUIGI RACEWAY, MOO MOO FARM, KOOPA BEACH, KALIMARI DESERT, TOAD'S TURNPIKE, FRAPPE SNOWLAND, CHOCO MOUNTAIN, MARIO RACEWAY, WARIO'S STADIUM, SHERBET LAND, ROYAL RACEWAY, BOWSER'S CASTLE, DK'S JUNGLE PARKWAY, YOSHI 'S VALLEY, BANSHEE BOARDWALK, and RAINBOW ROAD. And all the tracks are divided into cups: MUSHROOM, FLOWER, STAR, and SPECIAL CUP. Each course features twists, turns, shortcuts, and beautifully crafted graphics, and each level has power crystals that give you an array of weapons from banans to shells. And there are 8 characters to choose from: PEACH, TOAD, YOSHI, MARIO, LUIGI, WARIO, BOWSER, and DONKEY KONG.
The game consists of racing through dazzling locations with great music and sound effects, and fighting your way through twists and turns and weapons to get first place. It never gets boring. This game has high replay standards. It's the best game. It even features a battle mode than can be played with up to four players! The battle mode contains four special levels where you must destroy your enemy three times to win. THIS GAME IS THE BEST! OUT OF FIVE STARS, THIS GETS 20. GREAT GAME!
A poor sequel to the classic original

I'll probably be in a minority here when I say that the N64 version of Mario Kart represents a poor offering from Nintendo.
Yes, the graphics are better, but when one benchmarks this game to the previous SNES version for sheer enjoyment and playability, you'll be disappointed. The new version has been made overly complicated with new track layouts, and this has adversely affected the flow of the game. The karts also don't seem to move as well in the previous version.
And they are off...

Mario cart is the clasic N64 racing game and is accually quite fun. Join Mario and 7 of his friends race around 16 different circuts from Rainbow Road to Toad's Highway. Only bad thing about this game is the graphics!!!

Since my kids got an x-box they have stopped using the nintendo 64. My husband and I decided to give Mario Kart 64 a try one night and we fell in love with it. This has become our favorite thing to do when the kids are in bed.
Not what it could have been

This is a slick game. The graphics and sound are excellent, and the control solid. But playing it is frustrating--because "slick" is not why I love Nintendo. This game is a sequel to Super Mario Kart, and in spite of the oft-times elegant level design, and quality of look and feel, it is a shadow of its predecessor. A good example of the watered-down nature of the game is Rainbow Road. In the original, it was a driving hell. You were supposed to fall off the track numerous times, and bloody yourself on the obstacles. The course on the N64 is sanitized and merely tedious. That, in the end, can be extended to the entire game. So while I remain enthralled by the graphics of the N64 I will stomach my reserves. But in a few years...back to the SNES.
Gets boring if you have it a long time

Don't get this game because if you do and have it for a long time it gets really boring. But when you first get it its exciting but if you have it about like a year or so it really gets boring. But you should still get this game.
