Bad

This game was kinda disapointing. I beat it the first day, and once you beat it, its no fun. The computer players cheat, too. If you hit one with any kind of shell, they quickly are right at your side again. Plus, computer players don't get shells. They only get the star and banana peals. When the computer players get struck by lightening, they go at the same speed as they did when they were big. Also, when they fall in the water or off a cliff (which hardly ever happens), they are quickly picked up, much quicker than the real players. I hope you find this review to be helpful. Don't buy this game!

This game is very childish!

Here is my review- I won't restate the specific features of the game, which can be found in the editor's review. This is an extreamly childish game. There are many courses, all based off of about four different track styles. The music, and especially the sounds, are very corny. I can definately relate this game to my little brother's Reader Rabit Preschool on the computer. The graphics are okay, but used in a cartoon manner to create a very colorful, but unrealistic world. The physics of the game were planned poorly. The characters look like those Pokimon things. I would only buy this game if it was to be used by those under ten. Otherwise, it is too easy to beat and way to childish. (I am 14 and I beat the thing in all of the different difficulties in two hours. It is not very interesting after completed. You are not rewarded in any way with new tracks, characters, codes, or special features.)

This game starts out fun,but once you beat it it becomes boring, and if you are any good at playing Nintendo 64 you will prbobaly beat it in two hours. This is why I hate MarioKart 64

A poor sequel to the classic original

I'll probably be in a minority here when I say that the N64 version of Mario Kart represents a poor offering from Nintendo.

Yes, the graphics are better, but when one benchmarks this game to the previous SNES version for sheer enjoyment and playability, you'll be disappointed. The new version has been made overly complicated with new track layouts, and this has adversely affected the flow of the game. The karts also don't seem to move as well in the previous version.

mario kart is not fun there is no secret characthers or secret places[i think]. I tried the game for an hour and was completly bored now i don't like racing games. The producers should have tried a little harder on this game i was completly unsatified.

Nothing compared to the snes version

I guess this game is ok if you take it by itself. But if you've ever played the snes version of mario kart you are going to be very, very disapointed. The tracks are slow and boring for the most part, theres very little difference between the characters, and the powerups are weak.

The graphics are ok, but the suffer from very repeditive texturing, which can get pretty boring after a while. The only other good thing about this game is the 4 player capability, which makes its ok for parties etc.

Still, you'll thank your self if you can get your hands on a copy of the gba or snes version instead.

Don't get this game because if you do and have it for a long time it gets really boring. But when you first get it its exciting but if you have it about like a year or so it really gets boring. But you should still get this game.

Disappointing, not as good as the SNES Mario Kart.

I reserved this game long before it came out, because Super Mario Kart for SNES is one of my top five games of all time. This game is definately NOT as good. Here's why:

BATTLE MODE: Yeah, this has a 4-player battle mode, which is pretty cool. However, the arenas are too big, and the racers hardly ever get close to each other. The original Mario Kart had smaller battle mode arenas, which are very cool because you come in contact a lot more often. That is a lot more fun than driving around for 5 minutes before catching anyone (which happens a lot in Mario Kart 64).

PLAY CONTROL: When you try to turn normally in this game, you end up turning pretty sharply and you lose quite a bit of speed. However, you can overcome this by sliding in your turns, which doesn't slow you down too much. The part that I REALLY hate is that you can get a mini-boost from turning. What's up with that? I think this adds unneccessary complexity to the game. Why can't I just steer like in a normal go-kart? That's what you do in the SNES version: you steer normally, slowing down before you turn. And if there's a sharp turn, you can use the sliding technique. Very simple, very fun. Just like chess, its easy to learn but takes time to master (ok, its not even 1/10 as hard as mastering chess!).

DIFFICULTY: I beat this game in 2 days, no sweat. The computer isn't very hard. The original Mario Kart took me a lot longer to beat (those 150cc opponents were TOUGH!).

WEAPONS: I hate the triple red shell. Its so cheap! I feel bad when I beat someone by hitting them with 3 of those things. I know that not all the weapons can be equally good, but there isn't that nice balance the SNES Mario Kart had. The Mario Kart 64 arenas don't have many walls, so if you're being hunted with a red shell, you're in for some big trouble.

GRAPHICS: Okay, I'll give the N64 version a little credit, it does have better graphics. Those visual sound effects look kind of stupid, though (and I usually like anything that mimics the '60s Batman show).

SOUND: Two words: annoying voices. There's nothing worse than hearing someone with that super mushroom. ''Here we go! Here we go! Yahoo! Yahoo! Here we go!...''

Okay, I'm done bashing this game. It's not bad, but its nowhere near as good as the original. Oh yeah, another thing I don't like: no Koopa Troopa!
