Fantastic

This game is addictive, no doubt about it. There are a great many tracks and characters to choose from, and four levels of speed to conquer. Even better are the extremely entertaining four-player modes of this game - probably the most social experience you can have while playing a video game, although that's not saying too much. There have been criticisms that it is not as good as the Super Nintendo version, but ignore them and play the game for what it is. Even with the annoying computer assistance that you cannot turn off, this game is one of the top five or ten games on the system.

OK, but the fun does not last long

This game pits the players against other Mario characters in a variety of race track settings. Each character has different driving capabilities (e.g. speed, stability). The game is fun as it lets multiple players (up to 4) compete against each other, but once you get the hang of how to control your vehicle, the variety of racetracks / characters, really does not add enough variety to make the game something the kids will be playing a month from now.

This is a great Racing Video Game.

This game is especially fun because you get all of Nintendo characters along with colorful cars. I like it because more than one can play and my sister likes it too.

This is a good game for a family

This game is one of the best for 4 player racing. Or Battling. Imagine you're on a go-cart and you can interact with 3 other person-controlled people. Unless you are like me, you might not have played video games with other people. You should. And what's better is that you can talk with the people, maybe even have a get-together with 3 friends of yours, or whatever. It's fun.

Must-have Game

People have missed the boat so badly on this title that it's almost criminal. Mario Cart was one of the earliest games released for this system, and although it received reasonably favorable reviews it suffered due to its predictability in the single player mode, and that's the key. Where Mario Cart excelled, and still continues to, is in the multiplayer modes, most notably the two player mode. Far too many people parked their lonesome selves in front of this game and were quickly bored by competing against the a.i. when they should have invited a friend or relative and raced against a fellow player. The unpredictable nature of racing against a human driver is the x element that makes this game shine. Who but a fellow player would figure out how to place fake diamonds within the clusters of real ones for a devastating booby trap, or the sheer thrill of nailing another driver at long distance with a green shell (something that takes considerable skill)or the absolute bliss of activating the "invulnerable star" and smashing your opponant flat as a pancake? Even casual gamers such as my wife and myself return to this game again and again, even though we are intimately familair with every track simply because each race is different when taking on a fellow human player. If your looking for a game the whole family can enjoy, up to 4 players at a time I might add, don't pass up this incredibly fun racer. This is the ultimate party game!

This game's great but it can get boring after awhile.

We got the gold medal 7 times in a row. There are 4 sets of levels that are pretty easy to beat. The graphics are very good. We think Super Mario 64 is alot better because there are more levels and it is more chalenging and exciting.

The only game N64 needs!

This game was the sole reason I even purchased an N64 system, after having not played videogames since the Sega Genesis was big news! I've bought other games, but none could ever measure up to the sheer fun and playability time after time in this game. I wish game developers and reviewers could get it together and realize that playability is the key to making a game successful and fun--they should all study a group of four people playing Mario Kart and take good notes. MarioKart is a title for everyone to enjoy--It's easy to learn and very addicting. Be sure you have 4 controllers, for the four player racing and battle modes are by far the most fun, you're denying yourself the expereince by playing solo. Pick up this title and 4 controllers--forget the rest of the crap that passes for games on this system. I await MarioKart II!!!

At first when you try this game it seems fun. There is a big improvement on the origional. But after you run through the game once or twice the game starts getting boring. Nothing ever changes. I suggest saving your money for a better game.
