This is a colorful, immersive videogame based around the Jedi Knights of the Old Republic. It's a detailed, overly-long but well-made RPG. You can assemble a group of Star Wars creatures on your team and run around the galaxy. Or take tiny races on a pod, but it's more like a chore. The dialogue is often dry despite the comments you can choose, a lot of the aliens go on and on about pride/loyalty and boring [stuff] like that. One thing I found dumb and unoriginal was how this story takes place before Ep. 1, and yet the universe looks so much darker & grittier than even ESB. The Jedi haven't even been offed yet and everything is just as dirty as Vader's reign. Things look like a Babylon5 episode. A lot of the aliens are different colored versions of critters from the movies with names like Davik, Zaalbar, Juhani, etc. There was also glitching and a troubled save system. It's what you'd expect to get, at least --and that's the best we've gotten from Star Wars in years. =D
Decent, but not as good as the hype

The word of mouth for this game was pretty good, so I had high expectations. The game is definitely fun but did not live up to those high expectations for me.
The pacing of the game feels slow. You spend a lot of time running from place to place, and even worse, waiting for loading screens.
The inventory interface (and the interface in generally) is fairly clunky. Over time you will build up hundreds of items in your general party inventory and it will be difficult to find what you are looking for. There are filters so that you can just see new items or quest items, but it's not clear how the filters work (what's the definition of new? since the last time you looked at the new filter? which quest?) and I didn't find them at all helpful.
Combat is generally fairly repetitive. It's sometimes fun when you get a new Jedi skill -- the first time you see Force Whirlwind pick up an enemy droid and twirl him around mid-air, it's very cool -- but most of the time you just sit there and cast Cure repeatedly until the battle is over. It's even worse when the battle requires more management, since the quasi-turn based system proceeds in real time. You end up pressing pause every couple of seconds to change your party members' orders, which lends a very jerky and un-cinematic feel to the combat. I don't like this hybrid turn-based real-time combat. I prefer either completely turn-based (like Final Fantasy X) or completely automated (like Diablo II or Dungeon Siege).
The models are mostly fairly low-poly and repeat often. You will see the same NPC models again and again throughout the game.
The character movement system is a little glitchy -- there are a lot of cosmetic flaws.
The puzzles are mostly old chestnuts that many older players will have seen before -- the towers of Hanoi, the old one about using 3- and 5-gallon containers to get 4 gallons of liquid, etc. Younger kids or players who didn't read as many brainteaser books as I did growing up may find them enjoyable.
Despite all my complaints, it's still a pretty decent game overall and I did play it to the end... but I was relieved when it was finally over.
A definite winner

This game had me enthralled. The first time through it, it gave me about 50 hours of gameplay. That's right, I said the first time through. There are enough character choices and dialogue options to give this a unique gameplay several times. This game provided aspects of adventure, role playing, puzzles, and an intriguing new history to the Star Wars saga. I loved going through, solving the puzzles, battling enemies, and learning about different races in the Star Wars universe. All I can say is, bravo, this is definitely a winner. I will be the first one in line when the sequel comes out.

Im not a big fan of the Star Wars series, but I did get into Jedi Knight 2, as well as the star wars put out for the n64. But I needed something that I could count on as a solid game, so I went online and found that this game got good reviews, and decided to give it a try. Im glad I did, despite the loading times it was a very good game, with a unique fighting system and solid storyline, the actual twist wasn't too much like the other star wars genres..I also liked the party systems as well, where i could have a wookie, twi'lek and other jedi by my side in battle, oh yea, cant knock the droids either. Anyway, I think anyone can enjoy this game, especially if they have time to kill...It's only downfall is that there arent any other modes of play other than single player....
Must ... put ... down ... controller ...

I bought this game on its release date; it's the first time I can ever remember standing in line to buy a modern title. I was excited, and I know a lot of Star Wars freaks were pumped, too.
60 hours of gameplay later, as the music swelled and the credits started to roll, I put down my controller and applauded.
The game was outstanding in almost every way. Visually, there were a few rough spots; the frame rate dropped occasionally in larger settings, and some of the textures were pretty low-res (and obviously mirrored). Add to that a couple of bugs and freeze-ups here and there, and it becomes clear that this isn't a completely perfect release.
Nevertheless, the dialogue was well-acted, the story was a back-to-the-roots tale of good versus evil (with a plot twist that leaves you gasping), the characters and environments were detailed, unique, and very fitting to the Star Wars universe. Most importantly, the game was a fun place to explore and play around in. Each world felt alive in its own way, each character had something to contribute. (Especially the assassin droid HK-47, whose quips throughout the game qualify as some of the best lines ever in a game.)
Sound was another plus. The music was specially scored for KOTOR and felt just right. The FX and ambient noise, from the rumble of a space ship to the buzz of a light saber, were obviously crafted with authenticity in mind. If you have a 5.1 receiver you'll find yourself fully immersed.
Overall this was an excellent game -- a top-notch Star Wars release and one of my favorites ever on Xbox. If there's a sequel, I know I'll be standing in line again.

KOTOR gave me the greatest time I hadn't had in a while playing an RPG, it delivers the star wars universe but in a whole different world of variety and complexity. The storyline is very captivating and exciting, it's full of shocks and suprises that you would never guess were coming as the game unfolds. Having a group of characters to choose from later on in the game makes the experience more addicting and enjoyable. Pros: Impressive but not stunning graphics, superb animations, nice music, brilliant storyline and a unique gameplay experience I've never had before in a star wars video game. Cons:Glitchy actions, freezes quite a few times, horribly set up game save slot system, mine got erased twice!! Overall this game is definetely worth the money because it's a nice lengthy game that has puzzles that really make you experiment and think, go buy this game right now!!

This game takes place 4,000 years before The Original Star Wars films!!! You are caught in a conflict; with the Republic struggling against the brutal sith!!! Hundreds of Jedi have fallen and more and more of the galaxy falls to the Sith's conquest.
You choose your path between light or darkness, as you master the force, and the grim secerts of the sith, in your mission to destroy The Star Forge are revealed. Shall you choose light or dark, you alone will decide the fate of the galaxy; in this new innovative RPG!!! In fact, this game won over 40 Game of the Year Awards!!! This is a dream come true for a Star Wars fan!!!
The possibilities in this game are endless, with different weapon, armor, character, force powers(force lighting and force choke.... awesome!!!!) and side quest too!!! You can customize your party and after talking with them, you bring side quests and more twists and turns in the story!!!
In the game, you can either be good or evil which was awesome!!! The gameplay is plainly addictive also and you will be playing until dawn if not stopped!!! Well, I beat the game 3 times 2 times dark and 1 time light, hey what can I say it is fun being the bad guy, you also get cooler force powers and raw brutal power, while the light side focuses more on combat and techinque!!!! This is what, RPG's are supposed to be like!!! Hey what can I say I like raw brutal power!!!
During the game you travel to, the desserts of Tatooine, the jedi enclave and plains of Dantooine, the oceans of Mannan, the sith world of Korriban, and eventualy to the mysterious Star Forge, well of course with a few twists, maybe perhaps a sith command ship, or an unknown world filled with the mysterious secrets of The Star Forge!!!
All, of the environments are vast and always filled with action and plenty to do!!! This what Star Wars Galaxies should of been, this also det new standards for a RPG!!! This along with games like: Jade Empire, Fable, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 are all good RPG!!!
For, a Star Wars fan this is a absolute must have along with:
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Star Wars: Battle Front
and the new Revenge of the Sith game and movie!!!
.... well it all depends on your taste in games though, but this is a game everyone should enjoy, especially RPG!!! This RPG gives you more freedom than any other!!! Overall, I give this a 5/5 Outstanding!!!!
No idea what RPG means

I could careless about 1st person view, graphic, sounds, etc... I was just looking for another Star Wars game to add to my collection --Battlefront I & II, Lego star wars, episode III and after reading the great reviews about knight of republic I bought it and it is nothing like I thought it would be...
When you encounter an enemy, it is not like other games where you hit A or the X button a bunch of time until they die. In this game when you see an enemy the screen will freeze and you have to pick the attack you want to perform and the order you want to perform it. And after you make your selection you can actually put the controller down--really don't touch it-- and your person will kill the enemy all on its own while you watch, which sounds easy until you get higher up in the game. If you don't pick the right action your dead in seconds. If you are use to knowing that you failed at killing the enemy just because you didn't hit my A button enough times. Then with this game you won't be disappointed if you failed it's because you didn't use the right weapon or you didn't load the right armor or you should have picked different actions...... there are endless reasons.
There are so Many menu, so Many option, so Many things you have to change, adjust, upgrade which I know other people just love. But I don't spend hours on ended playing video games, so it's a little tough on me finding the time to fininsh it, because with this game you need at least 4 hours just figuring out the menus.
One good thing about this game you really do have to use your Mind, if your looking for a game where you just walk forward and kill something this is Not it. If your looking for a game that requires you to read, make choices and will consume hours out of your day because it will take forever figuring out what to do next, then this is the game you want!!
sometimes you just wanna strangle....

Visually beatiful.
Incredibly Moving.
A little cumbersome.
When the big monster ate my spaceship and the dog was like whoa it was awesome. I don't know a lot about starwars, but i know they make a great game. Half way through the game when i realized i was falling to the darkside, i was scared to find that i liked being evil, and i had no trouble putting to used the force on innocents in my way.
All around this game is great! Giving you a chnace to choose your own great destiny. The only drawback, is that after the amazemet of being able to fry a twi'lek inside out subsides, combat looses its shine and becomes cumbersome. but its not bad enough to keep you from playing it through again to save the galaxy and be a hero. just keep your wookie happy, they can be a pain when they're grumpy.
