Well, i haven't had a chance to play this since it has not come out yet, but from what i know, you will get to play as the rebels, imperials, republics, or seperatists on worlds spread across the galaxy, inculding tatoonine, kamino, yavin IV, naboo, geonosis, endor, etc. this won't be any normal battle game either, you will get to play as, for example (repubic forces) a clone trooper, at-te, speeder bike, (rebel forces) rebel trooper, x-wing, air speeder, rebel sniper, rebel rocket launcher trooper, etc. (seperatist forces) battle droid, droideka, super battle droid, tank, hailfire droid, etc. (imperial forces) storm trooper, at-st, tie-fighter, etc. this game looks very promising and i am looking forward to it. deffinately a buy-not-rent game.

Ive seen the trailers that have been circulating on the web on this game and i must say i need this game. The battles are HUGE and they look better than CS!
The multiplayer looks like Halo, with vehicles and people fighting in the same maps, sweet!

Im happy to see that Lucas Arst is finally making an online game for XBOX. The PC versions are awesome but there (...) since you have to pay every month???

Anyway, this is looking to be a great game, at least until NOVEMBER 09, 2004!!!!!
HAHAHA(...)

I just tried this game on the official playstation demo disc on endor between the battle of the galactic empire and the rebel alliance. If the demo is good then the official game must be ten times better. I say get this game or at lease get the demo disc for it. It is the best of star wars based games i've seen.

Ever wanted to blast an Ewok?

I just played the Xbox preview of "Battlefront" included in the Star Wars Trilogy DVD set. The scenario in the preview is the battle of Endor, and the object (if you're playing as a Rebel) is to capture the shield bunker, though there are also some Capture the Flag elements, not to mention the obvious goal of blasting all your enemies. You can play as one of three Rebel characters (including a Wookiee) or three Imperial characters (yes, you can play as a stormtrooper and shoot Ewoks!), and you can commandeer a speeder bike or an All-Terrain Scout Transport (AT-ST) walker. The control system is similar to "Halo" in that you move with the left thumbstick, look with the right thumbstick, and fire with the right trigger. All the characters in the battle (other than the Ewoks) appear to be named ("Player 1 killed Jango Jengo"), which seems to promise a massive multiplayer scenario (16 players from the game's preliminary specs). As you roam, you'll notice some events from the movie, such as rolling logs to trip up the walkers. It looks great, though some figures are a bit small and you have to run pretty close to figure out if they're enemies, and then you might get blasted by someone appearing behind you. There's a bit of a learning curve, but it's fun to play and I look forward to taking on the other levels.

The Battle for the Universe has begun!

First off, I would like to say that if you have any doubts about this game..buy the Star Wars Trilogy DVD collection because it comes with a free demo of SW:Battlefront. Let me just say that this game is probably the most incredible game I have ever played for the xbox (except KOTOR). In Battlegrounds you can re-live all of the battles of any of the movies! There are a ton of planets that you can journey to to fight your enemy. Theses planets are: Hoth, Tatooine, Endor, Yavin 4, Kashyyyk (Wookie homeworld, also in KOTOR),Bespin (cloud city), Naboo, Kamino, and others.

Now for the units.. It took me about 25 minutes before I could actually decide what unit I wanted to be. The choices are vast in numbers and all have tons of advantages in their own ways. I wound up picking the Republic Pilot, because I loved flying. My second choice, however, would have been the Republic Sharpshooter. The Classes are: Alliance, Republic, Separatists, or the Empire. The Units for each Class vary greatly, and each one is unique!

There is a single player on this games, and you can go head to head, or do conquer missions. The SP is a good idea to play at first just to get used to the controls and the surroundings at first. However, if you have Xbox Live, things just got better. You thought that you had a lot of choices with the units...well, that is nothing compared to what you can do on Live! You can play your favorite battles with up to 16 other players and customize everything you want. You can chat with your allies or taunt your enemies throught the live communicator.

PROS:
- Excellent graphics
- tons of worlds to choose from
- Tons of units, and space ships available
- Excellent depiction of the battles that took place in the movies

CONS:
- None (except if you dont have Xbox Live...get it...this game might not be totally meant for Live....but the best battles are fought over Live and you are missing out without it!)

Overall..GREAT GAME one of the best from Lucasarts yet!

Bitterly disappointing

The concept behind this game is great, allowing you to play on the side of the Rebel Alliance, Galactic Empire, Republic, or CIS. However, Lucas Arts stumbled as soon as it took the game from concept to product. The single player is boring, poorly executed and is incredibly easy, even on the hardest difficulty setting. The multiplayer (over X-Box Live) is not much better. I experienced a great deal of lag, drops, and waiting, even on a fast cable line. The graphics are passable and the sound is adequate.

Once again, Lucas Arts has released a mediocre game, depending upon the Star Wars franchise alone to make the game profitable. Please, spend your gaming money elsewhere. Eventually, Lucas might get the hint.

THE BEST

The game offered here is one that has been needed for a LONG time now. The idea of running through the battlefield with laserblast coming from every side brings a tear to your eye as you truly NOW feel like youre part of the star wars saga. I like how you can respawn and pick a different troop at times as each level makes better use of a certain kind of troop. Now, the only downfall I see here is the fact of how the game forces you to play both sides at times in the historical mode. for example, I played as the Imperial forces and won every level until all of a sudden IM forced to play the rebels???!??! However, being able to call for support or command a small set of troops adds to the games depth. At first the game seems a little "rough" as you will die quite a bit and be frustrated at having to respawn and run all the way back to the battle but after you get used to the controls and the way the game is paced you'll be able to survive longer and dose out more damage to your enemy. the other neat factor of the game is the ability to play part of episode III. All in all the game is a star wars fan's dream! Want to shoot ewoks? you can...want to blast rebel scum? you can....want to blast vader?...nice try! He just deflects it and one swipe of that red saber and your toast...keeps it fair! Truly one of the BEST star wars games Lucas Arts has EVER put out!

Great with one main letdown

This game is a first person shooter with good graphics and an easy learning curve. You can play one of five different characters. I know it says something like thirty, but each side (Clones, Imperial, Rebel, Droids) has the same units. There isn't really a difference between a rebel sharpshooter and a droid marksmen, or whatever they call it.

The graphics are very good, and the gameplay is easy to pick up on.

The one main complaint I had was the vehicles. Sure you can control a AT-ST, X-wing, Tie fighter, etc.., but they all have terrible controls. If you ever played any of the rogue squadron games, you will be disappointed with the controls like I was.

The multiplayer is fun, because you can compete against your friends. It is cool how you have respawn points that let you come back closer to the action too.

Overall it is a 5 star first person shooter with a pitiful addition of vehicles that I eventually started ignoring.

Ok but only Ok

I was really looking forward to this game. I'm a big fan of shooters like Halo and the Tom Clancy games and this idea sounded and is still great. I must say that I was expecting a Rainbow Six type game set in the Star Wars universe. This game does not even come close to Halo or Rainbow in play or in story. The sound was alright and the graphics were acceptable, but neither knocked me out of my seat. To be honest, the graphics seemed more like a 90's arcade game. I'm not a big fan of running around with a bunch of other people just running and gunning, but if you are I don't think that you'll be disspointed. One major gripe that I have is the weapons, especially the sniper rifles....if we had stinkers like those today, we wouldn't have snipers at all. Since when does it take 2 headshots to kill someone and since when does a sniper rifle or other blaster shoot all over the place half of the time? I am probably judging this game a little too harshly, but after Ghost Recons and Halo how can you accept less? To sum it up, die hard Star Wars fans get this game and you'll probably be satisfied; fans of online shooting get this game at a discount; someone looking to try a shooter for the first time, look elsewhere; if you like Star Wars and shooters, get this at a discount. The best advice I can give is game makers look at the best games for ideas and game buyers get this one when it comes down to under 20 bucks. Save your big money for Halo 2, Ghost Recon 2, Splinter Cell 2/3, Men of Valor and Brothers in Arms.
