the coolest game ever

This game is cool and has its ups and downs. The pros are that when you die, you can come back in the game by picking another soldier or the one you just picked, use specialties for your army, fun stages, cool vehicles, and good weapons. The cons are that you can't play as a jedi or sith [can pick this for a specialty and a jedi or sith will assist you ], you can't pick up dead enemy's or allies's weapons, and you only can comand 2 soldiers [also some times they ignore your comand]. Its still fun and is still cool so get this game. If you listen to your friends when they say this is a bad game then excweese me but this game is great. The xbox live is awsome as well. If you want to make sure if its fun or not rent it. For the star wars fans, buy this as soon as possible. "Also there is a couple more than 12 stages." so listen to me man, if you don't then "what ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

In this game, you play as a soldier for either the clone army or the droids during the clone wars era, or the Empire or the Rebels in the galactic civil war era. The main singleplayer campaign puts you through all of these battles in chronological order and you have to play on the side that is supposed to win according to Star Wars history.

This isn't the highlight of the game, though. You have Instant Action where you can play any battle from any side and you can choose what era you want for just about every one of them(except 3 or 4...Hoth, Endor, and that cloning facility are the ones that I can think of immediately. They might be it, but I can't remember.)

Galactic Conquest is fun when you want to play with an objective in mind. You go through attacking planets as you choose. If a planet is under your control, you can activate a planetary bonus, such as extra troops, troops whose wounds heal, a Jedi fighting with you, jam your enemies radar, etc, etc. The addition of these bonuses makes the Galactic Conquest mode worthwhile.

So basically, you just go out as a soldier, sniper, demolitions trooper, pilot, w/e and do all the damage you can while taking control of "command posts" which are these little circular things in the ground that emit a light. Red for enemy, green for you. You stand on it, keep it clear of enemies, and it will go white, and eventually green. That's the whole point of the game. You don't HAVE to get them, though, as long as you keep the ones you have well defended and take down the enemies numbers. You start out w/ about 180-250 each. That's not the actual number of troops out there, though. It's how many respawns your side has left. So, you can just wear down your enemy and win. Some command posts are very useful to get, though, as certain ones are the spawn points for enemy vehicles, which can do a lot of damage.

Before you buy this game, you should definitely borrow it or rent it. Play just one battle, really. If you like it, ask yourself if you think it's worth buying it for pretty much more of the same over and over. It is to me, because it's just so much fun and done so well, and all the maps are vastly different from each other, so it's not as repetative as it could have been if the maps were poor.

The only real problems I have are that the battlefields are generally too tight to use provided starfighters with much effectiveness, and you can't fight as any of the special characters in the game--the Jedi, Sand People, Jawas, or Ewoks. You do get a Wookie, though. And the Droideka is always fun.

Perfect game if you like nonstop action, and don't mind if there's nothing else to it. No storyline, very little need for strategy(it's pretty much all deciding what soldier type you want and where to deploy him), and no tedious objectives. Just grab a blaster and kill everyone and everything that's not on your side.

My kind of game.
There need to be more games like this done as nicely as Battlefront.

I just played the Xbox preview of "Battlefront" included in the Star Wars Trilogy DVD set. The scenario in the preview is the battle of Endor, and the object (if you're playing as a Rebel) is to capture the shield bunker, though there are also some Capture the Flag elements, not to mention the obvious goal of blasting all your enemies. You can play as one of three Rebel characters (including a Wookiee) or three Imperial characters (yes, you can play as a stormtrooper and shoot Ewoks!), and you can commandeer a speeder bike or an All-Terrain Scout Transport (AT-ST) walker. The control system is similar to "Halo" in that you move with the left thumbstick, look with the right thumbstick, and fire with the right trigger. All the characters in the battle (other than the Ewoks) appear to be named ("Player 1 killed Jango Jengo"), which seems to promise a massive multiplayer scenario (16 players from the game's preliminary specs). As you roam, you'll notice some events from the movie, such as rolling logs to trip up the walkers. It looks great, though some figures are a bit small and you have to run pretty close to figure out if they're enemies, and then you might get blasted by someone appearing behind you. There's a bit of a learning curve, but it's fun to play and I look forward to taking on the other levels.

Best Star Wars game to date

Star Wars fans... this is the game you have been waiting for! The fighting is intense, the graphics: awesome, and the variety of characters and vehicles to utilize are all without disappointment. Jump on a speeder bike and cut off the enemy reinforcements or take the helm at the mighty AT-AT and teach those rebel scum a lesson they wont soon forget. Also keep your eyes peeled during the scenarios for Vader, Windu, and others to fight along side with you and desimate all who stand in their way. The controls are easy to learn as well so when you turn the game on, no need to read the instructions... just go directly to the Battlefront and blast away! This is the first "must have" Star Wars game I've seen for the modern gaming console.

I have the demo for this game and it is awesome. Many people complain that you can't play any space battles or choose to be Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, or any other famous Star Wars characters. These people have no idea what they are talking about, they rush into a store, buy a game without even looking at the back cover, and complain. This is a game that captures the true spirit of the Star Wars ground battles. You even get to use vehicles like the AT-AT (walkers), X-Wing, speeder bikes, and more. If you love Halo and Star Wars, this is the game for you. The graphics are good, the control scheme is simple, and the combat, though kind of easy, is very fun. I'm getting my copy today.

great mulitplayer game for a firstperson shooter lover

i thought this game was great and has the best splitscreen play of any firstperson shooter i have ever played. I couldn't find any downsides to the game and all the reviews i read on it were good. For Splitscreen you choose one of the huge and detailed maps to fight agianst youre friends. on single player you can capture planets, fight lots of the battles from the movies, or just hop right into a battle on any map as the Cis, Republic, Empire, or Rebels. I wouldn't get this game if you only have one controler or don't have xbox live. The only real downside to this game was VERY minor. Jedi are impossible to kill. Also during the battles you reincarnate as a sniper, rocket launcher guy, machine gunner, pilot, or a unique charecter that varies throught the missions such as a guy with a jet pack or a wookie. You can also get in tons of different vehichles and planes that vary from map to map. Overall i would give this game two thumbs up.

P.S. (Don't buy this game if you ABSOLUTLY HATE the Star Wars theme)

Didn't I just play this map?

First off, I'll say that this is one of the best looking Lucas games that has come out in a while. I like the fact that you can pick what kind of soldier you want to be. I also like the fact that you can take hold of almost any vehicle in the game.
The sound is great.....but....

The game starts to lose it's luster after playing maps over and over again, but playing different sides. I found the game play too repetitive to stay interested for very long. I feel like I wasted my money buying this game. Rent it to see if you REALLY like it, then buy it.

Star Wars: Battlefront (2004.)

The Star Wars series is the greatest science fiction series known to man - and there is no denying it. The classic George Lucas films of a galaxy far, far away captured the imagination of young and old minds alike, all around the world. It is because of this that many Star Wars video games exist. Unfortunately, like with the Star Wars novels out there, the video games are hit and miss. For every Rebel Strike, there's a Masters Of Teras Kasi out there to drag down the reputation of the series. In 2004, Star Wars: Battlefront was released on many gaming systems. Read on for my review of this title.

Star Wars: Battlefront is one of the greatest Star Wars games out there. It is totaly different from every other Star Wars game in existance, but this is in a GOOD way. Essentially, the game plays like many of the multiplayer online combat action games, but it throws in the elements of the Star Wars universe. What you get as a result of this is a whole lot of fun. Basically, each mission puts you in one of the armies of the Star Wars universe (Army of the Republic, Battle Droid Army, Imperial Stormtroopers, Rebel Troopers, etc.) You choose one of several different kinds of troops on the same side and play the role of that kind of trooper. The objective of the game is to capture all of the bases in the level, and to destroy all of the players on the opposing side. Every time you die, you can respawn, and if you wish, you may choose an alternate respawning location, as well as a different class of character (or you can do the same ones.) The character classes all play differently, with each having its own strengths and weaknesses. The locales are widely diverse, and the game covers both the classic Star Wars Trilogy, as well as the more recent prequel Trilogy. Most levels also have vehicles you can pilot, which only adds to the overall appeal. You can play two-player split-screen combat scenarios, either cooperative or competitive, or you can do online LAN play if you have the necessary equipment! Even if you're just a single player, there are plenty of play modes to quench your thirst. My complaints for this game are few and far between. The only major complaint I have is that since this game was clearly designed with PC gamers in mind rather than consular ones, the learning curve is steeper than in most Star Wars video games. But if you can learn the game, you'll grow to enjoy it A LOT. I had my doubts about this game, but was wrong to have them. Star Wars games don't get much better.

Recently, Star Wars: Battlefront was declared a Playstation Two Greatest Hits title! This is great, because it makes the game readily available in stores again, AND AT A MUCH LOWER PRICE! With the game's price dropping from $50 to $20 in most retailers, if you're a Star Wars fan, you'd be a damn fool NOT to buy it! For this reason, I suggest getting the Playstation Two version rather than the XBOX or PC editions.

If you're looking for a Star Wars game that won't disappoint, Battlefront is exactly what you're looking for. Though very different from the other Star Wars games we've seen appear on consoles in recent years, it's quite possibly the best of the bunch. In a galaxy far, far away, the video games are hit and miss. I assure you, however, this is one of the hits. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. FIVE STARS.

Solid 1st person war game. Not KOTOR though.

This is a great game if you take it for what it is, a reproduction of the Star Wars movie's battle fronts (like the title says!). It is really targeted (sorry for the pun) at those wanting to play on Xbox Live. The single player games are a bit easy and I finished them in about 14 hours of play on the medium setting. There are several tough sections though.

The combat is fast, and the AI is pretty good considering how many units are in combat at any given time (some heated battles will have what seems like 50 units creating a cool cross fire to survive). The battles are fairly realistic as well (you do not get shields like in a lot of games, so standing out in the open will get you killed pretty fast, a few good shots will kill any ground unit).

It would be nice to have some more maps (though several of the included ones are plenty big) and to be able to switch sides in all game modes from map to map.

The best part of the game is the abillity to take over the vehicals in the game (no driving an AT-AT, but the AT-ST is fun and the speeder bike is just like movie, the aircraft are a bit hard to fly and easy to crash).

Overall the second best Star Wars game to date (Knights of the Old Republic is sill the king, only Halo beats it for Xbox games).
