I enjoyed this game because it actually had a story. Yeah, it was really cheesy, but it fit and ended nicely.
Rouge and Shadow are nice additions to the series because they appeal to the older Sonic crowd. They keep the game from being too cute or annoying. And ... there's no Big! -A major plus! Basically, you play as all the characters who don't squeak, or use the word, "duh," when they talk. Though that didn't make the dialogue any less corny.
Still, it had some nice characterization. Each level matched the personality of its character- For example: The dark story gave you levels with ominous music and opportunities to blow up military bases, while the hero story gave you uppity, smooth music, and chances to beat up the bad guys. Not just that, but if you don't like Sonic, you can deck him a couple times as Shadow, and if you don't like Shadow, you can deck him a couple times as Sonic. This goes for every character and their foe.
Also, if you get sick of fighting, or racing, or combat, or searching, you can go into the chao garden and play chao-sims. And, even after you beat the game, you can chao-sim until the cows come home, which is what I did.
So, to sum it up, this game has good characterization by the means of fitting levels and music, a chance to be both- bad and good, and a fun simulation game on the side for when you get sick of the action.
And the envelope please........Sonic Adventure 2 wins!!

That's right folks. Sonic is back, and on the Gamecube no less. This game is great! After reading the previous reviews I'm sure you already know about the great new multiplayer options and the cool chao raising. I'm sure you've read that this game is great...But did you know that this game could rival that of a certain plumber? That's right, I believe this game is good enough to take out Mario's.....on his own turf! GET THIS GAME NOW! You won't be disappointed.

I have been a fan of Sonic since I was 5, and this is definetly the best Sonic game ever created; it deserves more than 5 stars.
The basic story line in this game is that Dr. Robotnik, a.k.a. Eggman (the main enemy in almost every Sonic game), has opened the secret labratory of his grandfather, a great scienctist like himself. His grandfather's project was to create the ultimate life-form and as the story unveils, you find out more about this. (Its really hard to write this story without giving away too much).
The interesting thing about this game is that you can choose either the good side or the bad side. When you choose good, you follow the story line from the good side, and when you choose bad, you follow the story from the bad side. Each side has more information than the other, and because both sides constantly meet, it really makes sense once you have completed both sides.
In between levels, there are movies and bosses. Which make the game more enjoyable. Also there are 6 characters, the three good: Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. The three bad: Shadow, Eggman, and Rouge. Each charcter is basically a mimic of the other, Sonic and Shadow's levels are just a mad race to the finish, Tails and Eggman's levels focus on shooting everything around them to pieces, and Knuckles and Rouge's levels involve looking for certain items with a radar and clues.
Nearly every level is massive and fun to play; there are 30+ total. The music also goes well with the game, Sonic's music rock, Shadow's music Techno, Tails' music rock, Eggman's music rock/new ageish music, Knuckles' music rap, and Rouge's music is elevator music.
Also, when you finish a level, your score and time bonus is counted up to equal a total in which you get a score of A, B, C, D, or E. When you finish a level in Story mode (which is the normal mode) there are also 4 new missions to complete it in, in Stage Select Mode, collect 100 rings, find the lost Chao (Kay-Oh), finish the level in specified time, and complete Hard Mode. For completing an objective, you get an emblem, there are 180 total. Try getting and A rank for all five objectives, its a real challenge!
There is also a new two-player mode where you get to play against a second player in racing, shooting, or treasure hunting levels. Also there is Chao races and Chao karate, and a six character Kart Racing Mode!
The Chao, pronounced Kah-Oh, are small little creatures that the six characters raise in a separate world, they have nothing to do with the story and are there to make the game more fun. Basically, you feed them, pet them, give them animals and chaos drives to increase their running, swimming, flying, and power stats. They evolve once to become either hero (angel), dark (devil), or neutral chaos depending on who raises them. Also, you can take them in races where they race against 7 other comp. chao or against a friend. There is also Chao karate. The chao can be transferred the Game Boy Advance where it can be raised in the game Sonic Advance.
This is the best Sonic game ever and I hope that Sonic teams outdoes this one and makes a better one! Thanks Sonic Team!!!

All past Sonic games were a blast to play, even the one not made by Sega (e.g. Tails Adventure, Sonic Cart Racers, etc.) and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle lives up to that. Fast paced and has an exelent music score. The last few stages are rather diffecult, but well worth the trouble. Then we have the Chaos. Amazing little creatures that grow up to many diffrent forms (one even looks like NIGHTS from NIGHTS in to Dreams for the Saturn!!) Weather you like Sonic or not, I suggest you give this game a try!! =^.^=

Although sonic is quite new to game cube, i couldnt have been happier with the results. Never had I thought of an original sega game on a nintendo platform. I was quite suprised when I first played the game and could see how comfortably sonic fit into the nintendo atmosphere. At first i just borrowed this game from a friend, doubting the ability of nintendo to take a classic game and switch it from its home to a new system. At first play i fell right in love with the game.
It handles easily and the graphics are amazing. I especially like the 2 player modes with the numerous amount of levels, and activities to do. I too am extremely into the whole Chao world. Although it seems like it would be kiddy, it is actually quite challenging to train your chao and raise its stats so that it is competent enough to enter either the karate tournament or the Chao race.
I also have sonic advance for the gba, but i have yet to buy the hook up for the gc to the gba. Sonic advance is sweet so i hope the hook up for the two systems brings out the best for each game. My chao is much stronger in gba so i am bursting with joy to transfer it to my gc.
The only thing i was a little suprised at was the short amount of game play with either shadow or sonic. I felt as though i were almost betrayed when I found that they had taken the classic sonic and made a shooting game for dr.eggman or a treasure hunt for knuckles. These are fun but not sticking to the original.
All in all sonic battle 2 is a great game and i strongly encourage you all to buy this game. It is not a rental game but a game that takes much time and skill, so much that it promises hours and hours of game play. Buy it and you will surely be impressed.
This game has it all!

This game has everything! There are basically four different aspects to the game. There is the main story game, which basically has three different challenges to it.
First there is the Sonic/Shadow aspect. Their boards are all racing and really fast boards. You have to race your way towards the big GOAL ring. There's some really cool graphics in some of these boards.
The Knuckles/Rouge boards are scavenger and treasure hunting boards. You have to find three items using a hot or cold method of radar. I think they can be a little tough at times because some of the boards are gigantic and it's hard to find three tiny little items. The board ends when you find all three items.
Then there's the Tails/Eggman boards. Their boards consist of them in robot suits (kinda like mech warrior) and they have to fight their way through boards with their laser aimer and shoot down enemies and avoid traps and such. They are trying to reach the big GOAL ring as well.
Then, they've added another aspect to the game, which (I think) is the most fun. They've added little creatures called Chao. They are little creatures that you can feed and give them animals and chaos drive to raise their skills (swimming, running, flying, power, and stamina). You find these animals and chaos drives in the other boards as you play any of the other six characters. As you feed and care for your chao, they evolve into either a hero chao, a dark chao, or a neutral chao(depending on who you raise them with). This part of the game gives the whole game tremendous replay value, as you have to replay boards to get more animals and chaos drives to increase your chaos skills. Then you can pit them in races with other chao or you can do chao karate, which is pretty funny.
Also, this game just seems to never end. I beat the hero and the dark story lines, (both of which leave you with cliffhanging movies) and then there's another story line called Final. It does get pretty tough, but it wouldn't be fun if it were easy. It just takes some time and a lot of guys. For those of you who like a challenge, then you will probably like this game. It's not simple(coughluigismansioncough) but it's not so impossible you want to throw it out the window. People who say this game is so tough that they don't like it probably like their game endings handed to them. It's really not THAT hard, but it is quite tough.
I also had a lot of fun fighting the bosses in the game. The first boss was a little easy, but i don't remember having so much fun fighting bosses, esp. the pyramid Golem.
The only real problem I have with the game is the camera angles. It can be quite annoying at times, especially when you're trying to maneuver through perilous terrain and the damn camera keeps switching. But you learn to deal with it. I learned to just go with the flow and just follow where the camera points you. It seems to work pretty good for me. That's what i recommend for the rest of you, just go with the flow.
Overall, i would say that this is my favorite Game Cube game (yes, better than Smash Bros. and Pikmin). It's just really a lot of fun and pretty much has something for everyone.
the greatest game ever!!!

This is about one of my favorite games of all time. When I got this game, I could not put it down. After I beat the 2 story levels, there was a third awesome one, and Shadow partners up with Sonic and... well, I don't want to give it away, but to be honest I cried. Aswell as the main game, there is this little place called the chao garden were you can raise a cute creature called a chao and power them up for races and karate. Overall, the graphics in this game are OK, gameplay was very cool, and the music was awesome! The best part though is the story. I highly recommend this game for all Sonic/Shadow fans, or I may as well just say, ANYONE WHO OWNS A GAMECUBE!!!

First of all, this game rocks, there are over 150 missions, secret charcters for multiplayer, and great graphics and sound. But I bet all of you out there that have the game are thinking, these camera angles are annoying, and I feel like the rest of you. But that doesn't mean this game isn't cool. If you have GBA, GBA link to hook up the gamecube and the GBA, and Sonic Advance, you can transfer your chao from your gamecube to your GBA. There is a little chao garden if you transfer your chao to you GBA. This is a cool setup because SA2: Battle is one of the first games to use the GBA link. This game is awesome, so get a cube and SA2: Battle ASAP.
