This is GameCubes best game without a doubt but then soon there will be Twilight Princess. This game is unbelievable I have the Infinite rocket launcher and I have all mercinaries and I have to buy the chicago typewrighter and I have to earn the hand cannon and then I'll be complete with the game. Too bad it isn't a four player game for mercinaries mode that would be more easier to get the hand cannon. Nevertheless this is a must buy for any Resident Evil game I played every single good RE game except for the sucky ones. This game is a must buy!!!!!!
Very Different than other RE Games but it is not a bad difference

This new RE4 Game has its differences from the previous re games this game is much longer than any of the other games and has sort of a movie like effect to it like you are playing the outcome of a movie you can buy and sell weapons to a merchant who is in various locations throughout the game I could not stop playing this game until I beat it this is a must for RE fans and a must for those who are looking for a great game at a resonable price
Absolutely perfect!!!

I would like to start by saying this is easily Gamecube's greatest game, and a definite candidate for game of the year... already.
No longer are we confined by the atrocious gameplay of past RE games. No more fixed camera angles that have to load whenever you move out of eye shot, always blocking your view of zombies. No more trying to control a tank, either. The new camera angle makes things approximately 123849573209847592 times better than anything previous. You can finally see whatever you want to see, and it also shows an "A" icon whenever you're near something to pick up. No more walking at an angle along walls rapidly tapping the action button in hopes of finding something, at long last. Also, a side affect of this camera change is easily some of the best control I've seen in any game for a long time. It still technically controls like a tank, but the fact that the camera is in the right place and it's so well tuned makes this setup fit like a glove, or at least after about a half-hour of getting used to it. It's not without it's real flaws, though... you can't strafe, and the camera is always stuck over your right shoulder, which can be a bit of a hassle. Minor grievences, however. The aiming, by the way, is the greatest aiming I've ever felt in a console game. Ever. Bravo Capcom.
Another thing changed is that finally, we are rid of those boring, pointless lock-and-key puzzles. Instead of trying to pull that crap, RE4's main challenge is the intense battles with the locals and their pitchforks. The neccessity to not make head shots, lest you get a nasty surprise. You use your brain in more practical situations, like how to keep 300 crazy people from overrunning your house, or a plan of attack against those with chainsaw's. Wandering around barren corridors looking for keys is a thing of the past. There are still puzzles through out the game, although not nearly as irritating or as frequent.
The graphics and sound: the fluff of every game, but somehow Capcom pulled it off and made it look great, sound great, and manage voice acting that doesn't grind your ears down to a bloody pulp like "Steve" in Code Veronica did. The sound itself is spectacular, the way you suddenly can hear them chanting and getting ready to skewer you. The chilling background music that will let the hair on the back of your neck stand on end... if it hasn't already done so after one of RE4's breath-taking gunfights.
The "Merchant" is also a nice touch. Having a dude around to sell you stuff and buy crap you don't need for cash... is just great. This gives you incentives to search for treasure hidden around throughout the entire game. You can even combine treasures to create massively valuable items, which you can trade in for, say, a ROCKET LAUNCHER. The huge grin on your face when that big gigantic ogre comes out at you and suddenly you pull out that bad boy and blow the punk to smithereens... priceless.
I should also make note of the boss fights... oh, what boss fights, although the end boss is a bit of a push-over, but nonetheless worth your time. Lets just say when you get to the lake, you will experience the coolest boss fight on water in existence.
There is even quite the replay factor, with Ada's solo missions and "Mercenaries", where you choose from different characters and race against time taking out as many bad guys as you can. Not to mention the even more awesome weapons and items to be obtained the second, third, and god knows how many more times through.
I don't know what else to say. Clearly, RE has finally evolved from the usual formula of tank controls, mainly static camera's and poor gameplay and into something enviable to those that A)don't own a gamecube, and B)know what they're talking about. Truly a masterpiece.

If you play one horror-survival game, make it this one. The atmosphere is creepy as all get-out, the action is fun and frantic, and there's nothing as satisfying as setting zombie-things on fire. The storyline is long and engaging and takes you through a wide variety of creepy areas, but the best feature is the number of interactive cinematic sequences you run into. These pop up at key points, such as when you are running from a boulder and must rapidly push the correct sequence of buttons, or when your character is in a high-speed knife fight and must defend himself. If you miss your timing in these sequences, you'll discover the other great feature of this game: the number of different ways there are to die. I've counted over 70 different scripted death-sequences that your poor character can end up in, and all of them are appropriately varied and gruesome.
If you still own a gamecube, buy this game immediately.
as good as evil gets!

Resident Evil has always managed to suprise me with each new release that I play. RE4 is no exception. The play control can, if desired, mimic many of the best aspects of Metroid Prime 1 and 2, so if you have played one of these, it will be much easier to adapt to the control scheme.
This game, like those that came before it, is survival horror at it's best. I have always managed to keep my Consoles in parts of my home that had bad lighting that would conk out and/or come back on at unpredictable and hair-raising times, making it an even better experience than just playing after nightfall alone! Now, I definitely don't think I could ever want to fix that lighting...
On a side note, Resident Evil has always managed to captivate me with the marvelous backdrops, scenery, and archetecture, and that is another area where capcom has reached a new high for the series. It might not seem that way at the beginning, but when it's good, it is REALLY REALLY GOOD, and when it is bad, it is...well...horrid (but usually in a "graphic violence and gore" sort of way).
Last, but not least, if you are as lucky as I was, you might just run into some hilarious "easter eggs" by accident. it's a great and unexpected way to break the tension sometimes.
I gave the game an overall rating of 4, and not 5, because it is definitely not for everyone or everywhere (i.e.workplaces, schools, kids)

I have never been into scary movies, games or anything of that nature. I would have never imagined myself trying a game like this... but one day I stepped out the box only to find one of the greatest games ever.
If you are a fan of horror this is perfect for you. It has everything a great game needs.
Graphics- Awesome, totally AWESOME! From the dirt on ground to the wood on the side of a cottage, to the chickens running around, Everything is detailed. Capcom made sure EVERYTHING was polished. Just STUNNING!!
Sound- You will definitely get a tingle in your spin from the music and sound effects. I couldn't play this game alone. I found myself at the edge of my seat the music was so intense. One good thing about it is that the music changes throuhgout the game, so it never gets annoying. Simply 5 out of 5.
Game Length- Not too short thank goodness. I hate when I come across a great game and it ends so quickly. This will have you at home for awhile. Once you complete the game, you will get a couple of extras, like The Ada Assignment and others, I won't spoil the suprize.
Replay value- HIGH! The extras at the end will have you playing continuosly.
The moral of the story is get the game! You can get it as cheap as ten bucks, the most I've seen it go for is 20 dollars but still well worth it. You will not be disappointed with Resident Evil 4.
Resident Evil 4 is one of the GameCube's best!

Resident Evil 4 is creepy. Real creepy. There's lots of townspeople bent on killing you for no apparent reason. There's chainsaw dudes, demon wolves, giant invisible acid-spewing insects, and a whole lot more here that are guaranteed to keep you up at night. But beneath that layer of scares and thrills, RE4 is also one of the most well-designed action games of all time. Don't take that statement lightly - this game fully deserves all the praise it can get. The controls are spot-on and add perfectly to the desperate atmosphere; the cutscenes throw surprises at you that make you realize that you should never, ever put the controller down; the bosses are big and intense, and are reminiscent of very good movie sequences; and the graphics, especially the character models and environments, are simply stunning. This game will go down in history as one of the crowning achievements in the industry. It's that good.
