Time to set another game straight...

This is a remake of the orginal, but there is a bunch of new stuff to explore, so it's really a different game from the first. The controls are pretty bad, but that's only in the beginning. I got used to them easy, and had real fun with it. also, people are whining 'it's too hard...' THAT'S THE POINT! WELCOME TO REAL GAMING! this game is pretty scary, though, But that's no reason to stray from it. This game is very involving and 0,2,3,Code Veronica, AND 4 will be out soon. that's 6 games of sheer terror total. A long storyline for the devotionists. Also there's the graphics, which are incredible. the sound is good as well, when you hear an enemy, you'll have a chill run down your spine. Don't get this game if you like it easy, or if you hate sleepless nights.

This game is one of the best I have seen for game cube. First of all the graphics are so lifelike and you can really see alot of detail put into them. It surpasses most other games.
- I love this game because its like you are playing in a movie. It puts you in that characters position: wandering through this huge mansion running into zombies, hunters, dogs and other far out monsters, while you're solving difficult puzzles and unraveling the gruesome secrets behind the umbrella corporations experiments gone horribly wrong.
- The controls were a little hard to get used to at first, but I think thats what makes it a better game. Even more of a challenge. When I encounted the first zombies it made it even more terrifying because it was harder to aim at your approaching target. Once you get the hang of it you feel like you've accomplished something.
- The camera angles can also be annoying at times, but I liked them. Sometimes you'll be walking in a dark room and you'll get almost all the way in it by the time the angle changes so that you can actually see what in front of you. The whole time I was just thinkin "Oh my god, is there something else in here with me?" It made things scary. Late at night I would have to stop playing because I would get too in to it, and really scared. I could'nt sleep some nights and when I finally did it was like I was still playing the game in my sleep. But then there were those days when I just needed to play it.
- Also when you are hunting around for clues and objects, I noticed in most games i've played, they kind of just give them to you, real easy to find ones, but with evil you can never do enough investigating. I cant wait for a new evil game to come out for game cube.
......What a strange trip its been, I just wished I was turned on to the whole resident evil thing alot sooner.

GREAT FOR THE SERIOUS GAMER, BUT A LITTLE HEAVY.

...For people not into the horror genre, I would rent the game before you buy it. With all of the puzzles, strange camera angles, and counterintuitive controls, the game can be a bit of a drag. Having said that, I will say that the game has wonderful graphics and truly is FRIGHTENING. Don't buy it before trying if you're just curious--for the casual gamers out there, you'll probably get frustrated. Also, being new to the series, I had a hard time until I picked up a strategy guide ...

"Enter the Survival Horror"

I have got to admit, this is the absolute scariest video game ever conceived! My hands sometimes shake when I play this game, but that's what makes it so exciting! This game is defiantly not for the kiddies. It's got some areas that scare the hell out of me, and I'm 16! I've divided all the major points of this game into the sections below.

Graphics- These graphics are so great you'll get teary eyed! The graphics look like they were meant for Toy Story!

Sound- The sound is clear as a bell. You can hear the footstep of a zombie from rooms away. Plus, the music is so creepy you'll never feel safe anywhere in the mansion!

Horror Factor- Since the graphics in this game are so realistic the monsters look so scary you'll be afraid to even approach one! Plus the sounds like doors opening in the distance or the floor squeeking adds a lot of pressure to the game. From this game i quote "Fight your fears and survive"

Controls- The controls are similar in style to Play Station's versions. You need to press a button to raise your weapon, and another to fire it. No big problem but I strongly recommend using Controller Configuration C. It's the simplest most practical of the three settings.

Difficulty- This game is no walk in the park. You can choose in the beginning to play in hard or normal mode. Honestly they're both nightmares to get through! You really need to know the controls like the back of your hand if you want to survive! A very scary and pressure added feature in this re-make is the new abilities of the zombies. If you don't kill the zombie by shooting it in the head, it becomes faster and more powerful each time it gets back up! That ought to keep you on your toes!

Replay Value- This game is so huge its almost impossible to get everything one time through. Plus, since you can play as one of two characters, each has his or her own different storyline. You have to finish the game with each character to see the complete story so this game has very high replay value.

Wrap Up- This game is the crowning achievement of the Game Cube! It is incredible in every way and no doubt will become a classic! Just a warning, for those of you who scare easily or are squeamish to gore, you might want to pass off this game, but if your not, prepare to enter the survival horror...

The Scariest Game I've EVER played

I've been a big fan of the Resident Evil genre since the very beginning. I've played thru every single game, and as a huge Romero/zombie movie fan, I've always enjoyed every one. This newest reincarnation of the original is by far the best game currently available for the Cube, as well as one of the best (and scariest) games I've ever played.

You get to choose between Chris and Jill at the beginning. AS a vetern RE gamer, I started out with Chris, since I knew the game would be more difficult, since he only had 6 slots for items, where Jill has 8. I also set the difficulity on Hard, to make the game even more frightening. The game starts out with a tasty cutscene that would rival anything I've seen in Metal Gear or Final Fantasy. Once you get into the house, and are greeted by the first zombie,,the game lets up and does not stop!

Some of my favorite new additions are the "Uber" zombies, as i called them. If you shoot a zombie a couple of times, and it does not die and you leave the room, when you come back, the zombie will be 3X faster, foam at the mouth and try harder than ever to tear your flesh apart. Another extra feature that I enjoyed were the sub items you can equip. If a zombie grabs you from the front, and you have one of these items equipted, the zombie will get a knife jammed in its skull, or my personal favorite, a flash grenade in the mouth...joy erupts when you see a zombie trying to pull this grenade from their mouth, only to have it blow their head clean off! I was giddy like a schoolgirl the first time I saw this!

The only complaint I had was the ending, which I assume there are multiple ones because it seemed like the end boss of the game was waaaay too easy to defeat. Unfortunately, i saved over my data, so I only got 2 different endings.

Now I'm about to go thru it again, because I just read that if you beat it within 5 hours, when you start over with a samurai sword, which sounds like it would be big fun, slicing up some undead beasts with a sword. If you have a Gamecube, buy this game, you will not regret it!!!

The Next Step in Gaming Evolution

In the mid 90's we were introduced to a spectacular horror game known as Resident Evil. For those of us who were old enough to play that game when it first came out, we were treated with one of the first games that could actually scare you. Resident Evil is often credited with starting the whole survival horror genre of video games. And although it was Alone in the Dark that should be given credit there, Resident Evil put survival horror games on the map.

Never had I played a game that so pulled you in. It actually felt like you were inside the mansion, and you could feel the tension. This was done wonderfully with music, groans in the distance and spooky environments.

To say that the new Resident Evil for the GameCube is a graphical wonder is an understatement. The sheer detail is almost overwhelming. From dust rising from old boards as you run across them, to a gentle breeze moving the leaves of plants. The attention to detail is to a point seldom seen in a console game. I can honestly say that I own no games on either my PS2 or GameCube that look as good as Resident Evil. Even after seeing the screen shots and hearing how great the game looked, I still was not prepared for how wonderful the game actually looked. I did not know that there were going to be games that looked this good. I have never seen anything like it.

But graphics don't make a game right? Right! It takes gameplay and engrossing story or just plan fun to go along with those graphics to make a game great. I am sure a lot of folks would take the original Zelda over a lot of the "next-gen" games that looks so much better, because of how fun the game was/is. Resident Evil does not disappoint. While it's not the pure "fun" that a Mario or Zelda game is, it's got it's own pluses. Resident Evil is meant to scare you and keep you on edge with the feeling of impending dread. This is done (as with the original) through haunting music, creepy atmosphere, and some down right "jump out and scare you" tactics. For some, like myself, this is very appealing. But if you are searching for a game that is just an enjoyable family game, look somewhere else. Resident Evil is not a family game, and should be kept far away from children. This is the kind of game nightmares are made of.

But if you are a fan of the Resident Evil series and have a GameCube then I would strongly recommend this game to you. It stays very true to the Resident Evil formula of solving puzzles to get further and scare you a lot.

The controls are also true to the series. This has been an issue since early on in the series and I don't understand it. Once you get used to the controls it's easy to control your character, but I will admit that it does take some getting used to. Luckily I got used to the controls way back in the 90's by playing Resident Evil 2 for the Playstation. So if you hated the controls in the other Resident Evil's, then you will probably hate them now as well. But please don't let controller issues deter you from such an incredible game. It is in my opinion, one of the best games available for the GameCube at this time. And it is probably the greatest video game (graphically) I have ever seen to date.

fun game,, happy scares

well... how should I put it... I really underestimated this game when I bought it. I was getting a gamecube at the time because it was cheaper and all the "hardcore" games from the resident evil series. I figured, hell I'm into hardcore...like this, this should be easy. I returned home, poped in resident evil, and it was much more than I expected. here some ups and downs

Pros
-very very awesome graphics, and realistic texturing
-complex puzzles
-requires alot of thinking
-some pretty nice voice acting
-great plot and story developement
-very realistic gameplay and dose a grand job at sucking you in
-a...load of other cool stuff

cons
-my only really thing against this game is that it can be frustrating at times and occasionally discouraged me from playing (untill I started understanding the game better).
-I really respect the realizm in the game but the fact that you have to find ink ribbons to save, limits your saves and makes play a little more frustrating,
-the item menu is a little frustrating, because you can't drop anything (but in my opinion it's not as bad as people say it is) I 've never been unable to make my way around it.

overall it's a great freagin' game with plenty of frights, and some great...gameplay. just don't get it if you cant handle "scarry" situations with alot of intensity. well worth the...bucks.

Resident evil is a 'remake' of the playstation orignal, and what an remake it is!Admitidly the game plays the same as the first but with new extras such as an extra playable character and mini sub missions to indulge in.The gameplay has you hooked and the story line is engrossing ,but once finished it has the least of replay value. Then again think of the fun you have getting there. The eerie music and sublime lighting effects give you a real sense of anxiety whilst showing off the gamecubes sheer power.Overall Resident evil is a tremendous game and you can tell real effort has been put in to making such a Masterpiece. If you own a Gamecube, this is a a must to your collection!

It's a remake and it's still scary but the game overall is slightly annoying even on the easiest difficulty, from how many hits your character can withstand to inventory spaces to backtracking. It's a good game. I'd give it a 4.3 for gameplay and 4.7 for overall. If you like the classic Resident Evil series, this one is gonna scare the hell out of you. Remeber, "Turn out the lights, Lock the doors..." and well, possibly live the nightmare! Its a must have for RE fans.

Ive recently started playing this game again-I had a disc that needed to be cleaned and never got around to it.Im glad I finally did.

You know by now that you will hate the controls until you master basic movement. But honestly the rest of the controls are so simple, it doesnt take you away from what you should be doing, soaking up the atmosphere. And this is one of the few games that can make you feel like your in a creepy old mansion. The look and feel of this game is the highest level possible, and to this day looks beautiful. In a blood splattered, broken window way.

If theres one thing ugly about the game, its the puzzles. But they need to be.You need to get lost in the mansion for a bit to get the mood right.Running through areas and taking damage and then realizing that you didnt need to be there until another hour or so can stress you out, while remembering key locations and making it back and forth is rewarding and really has hooked me on this game.I usually try not to play the longer games nowadays because of long work hours, but if you have a few hours to yourself you can get pretty far once your in the groove.

My local Gamestop has about three copies of this in stock right now for cheap prices. The site your on now has quite a few too.If you have a wii or a gamecube, you might want to check this out.Who its not for-- People with little free time, people who need fast paced shooting action, and children. I say children because besides the obvious reasons of gore, the game itself will be too hard for them to get anything but frustration out of it.Its not actually "fun" in the sense that you are enjoying every moment. Its a creepy whats going to happen next film that you control, and if thats what you want, this is great.
